It's obviously an STD he picked up on Yardrat.

Gokuu got the heart virus on Earth. If he'd caught it out in space, how would they have an antidote for it in Trunks' time? (unless they preserved Gokuu's body so they could study the virus it and make an antidote for him....but that seems unlikely).

Because Goku was the vector for the space STD, he brought it to Earth, and in doing so, killed thousands, if not millions of people.

I mean who really thinks Chichi hasn't slept around?, hell I'm even sure Goku got lonely in the afterlife.

That brings up a good point, can you catch an STD in the afterlife?

It depends. I mean, you'd think you'd be impervious to any and all diseases because, well, its the after-life. But then again this is Dragon Ball; where Goku can get hungry and thirsty while dead.

Have we ever seen any dead characters who were ill? (Like with colds or the flu or something) I think that would be a good indicator on if you could get an STD.
On hiatus.

I don't think so. But that doesn't necessarily mean they couldn't carry it, it just might not effect them. Tough call.

Edit: I should point out that this is a special case relating to people who get to keep their bodies in the afterlife.

You're placing the blame on the wrong person here. Note this carefully constructed sequence of infection:

I would presume that viruses don't go with you when you die, since they're not 'part of you'.

What if someone in the afterlife already had a disease? You might think it's impossible because they couldn't have brought it with them, but...Goku used instantaneous movement to get into the afterlife a few times, so it's possible he could have brought something with him. And he's probably not the first.

I know Trunks said it was a radical new heart virus that was very contagious! So Goku could have gotten it from anywhere...Unless some one has a Daizenshuu with that info!

Man, it's not often I read something that makes me laugh out loud, but you just made me lose my shit.

Now I can't help but picture Movie 13 Bulma (the sluttiest of all Bulma's outfits) standing under a streetlamp outside capsule corp, daring any innocent bystander to tackle her and take her under the lamplight.

Boy, if Julian were a part of this discussion he would be going into convulsions right now.

So....STD discussion = germ warfare in the Saiyan Civil War?

Considering that Goku brought it back to Earth with him and Trunks outright states it's contagious, I seriously doubt there's any shortage of infections or need for a cure in his time. Goku was likely just 'patient zero' on the Earth for this new alien virus.

There's still no proof that Gokuu caught it in space, though. When Trunks came back in time, he told Gokuu that he was going to get sick soon, not that he was already carrying a deadly space virus.

True, but there's no proof he caught it on Earth either. It's all conjecture.

That's what it says on the certificate. My money's on Gyumao rolling over one night and waking up a widower that morning.

Ur...
Goku got the heart virus symptom thingies later in the modified-by-Trunks timeline.
That implies to me that he caught it on earth, and later because of the training they wouldn't have been doing without Trunks' warning.

Saiyan Civil War? That makes the Pendulum Room Adventure make so much more sense...!
And not having access to Rocketman's numerous image responses is like being denied pizza, isn't it? :(

It's viral, it could have been laying dormant for years. But like I said, there's still probably no way of knowing where he caught it from. Even Trunks probably didn't know, he only heard about it from his mother.

Bulma is not a doctor or something similar, so she couldn't make a new medicine, that's what we know for sure.

And Trunks says that they have a medicine for it in the future. Which means that the disease should be normal at Earth in the future.
We don't know if Goku was the first person to bring it to Earth or if it existed there.
But, there would never be a medicine for it if it wasn't a common virus.

Another thing, Trunks said it would be contagious so Yamchu and Chi-Chi should take the medicine too, right?

What about Gohan and Piccolo that trained with him in three years, beating the crap out of eachother, mixing eachother's blood from their wounds?
Let's say Piccolo was a Namek, and that it wouldn't count, but Gohan was a Saiyan and a Human, so there is no way he would have not have gotten the virus too.

The whole thing doesn't make sense  .
Not by thinking of it medically anyways.
Okay: Science and Dragonball = Bad. I know. But still, it's fun to dissect fiction. :P

It could not be contagious until the virus stops being dormant.

That's not right either.
Example: HIV is the dormant version of the AIDS virus.
HIV is a contagious virus.
That's why they make a HIV-test before you donate blood.
