How is it misinformation when a FUNimation rep told me they were discontinuing the practice of using alternate angles for those reasons. I don't remember ect5150's post so if you can point me to it I'll be glad to admit my own inaccuracy so long as it is founded.

To up the bitrate? WTF?! Cameras on the screen? WT-Double-F?! They would be adding a whole 1 minute to the entire video! Its not like they re-encode the entire episode, just the part where video changed. Upping the bitrate would result in increasing it from 6500 to 6505 (or something small like that, where it wouldn't be a noticeable difference).

If camera's pop-up on your DVD player, you need to learn how to cut the option off to do so. That's not every DVD that tells you when alternate angles are available.

That just shows that it would be a BAD decision, if they are right. It doesn't mean that it wasn't Funimation's decision anyway, or that there is something that Funimation knows that Mister Ect doesn't know.

Since we have the word of a Funimation executive going against that post, I think it is more likely that the Funimation representative's post is more accurate.

I'm not quite sure every player has that option, though.

Good on FUNi.
So he had to imitate his old voice?
The way is appears to me, these added lines do not have VA's going back and recording them today. Except for the actual characters that are being fully re-dubbed of course (Such as Dende).

I think these new lines were lines that they originally Dubbed back in 2000 and ultimately they decided not to add.

Yes, because FUNimation has such a sterling track record when it comes to DVD's and/or being honest.

At least, the reps are usually not misinformed. :p
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I've realized two things after watching through this set:

1) The best ending for any saga in Dragon Ball was the Cell Saga. The anime made it so epic, and the aftermath stuff was perfect. It makes think, "Damn, it's a shame that they end the show here, because it would've been perfect."

2) If there's one thing that Funi does better than Toei, it's narration during flashbacks. The scene where Gohan flashes back to all the times he went out of control, his narration helped me get into it. It also applied to when cell was explaining how he came back even stronger, where Funi came up with a believable explanation as to why he was somehow perfect (his nucleus and his cell analyzed and remembered the biological makeup of his perfect form and was able to regenerate it when his body was destroyed).

NEVER! The Freeza ending was clearly superior, followed by the 23rd Budokai ending.

But the way everything happened, it worked:

1) Goku sacrifices his life to keep the planet he was originally sent to to destroy from exploding. Goku chooses to stay dead because he attracts so many villains.

2) Gohan finally gains control over his anger and hidden powers and saves the Earth.

3) Piccolo and Kami are one body again as Earth has a new Guardian, Dende. Piccolo chooses to stay there for the rest of his life.

4) Vegeta realizes that he'll never be better than Goku (he even admits it when trying to convince Trunks not to give him Senzu beans) and declares that he'll never fight again.

5) Trunks achieves his goal of saving the future of the main timeline and destroys the Androids in his era.

So many sub-plots saw resolutions. Imagine if that's how DBZ ended. It would be perfect. Infinitely better than just Goku abandoning them to train some kid he met 10 minutes earlier.

I think this sums up my feelings on season 6 perfectly. I always thought it was the perfect ending point. The father fades away, the son becomes a man, the rival declares his utter defeat... it was poetic.

1. Goku dies at the pinnacle of strength as the Legendary Super Saiyan, having brought down the tyrant responsible for the entire series.
2) Gohan finally gains control over his anger and hidden powers and saves the Earth.
2. Gohan is the most powerful being in the universe, the only remaining Z Warrior, and had his hidden powers drawn out by Guru.
3) Piccolo and Kami are one body again as Earth has a new Guardian, Dende. Piccolo chooses to stay there for the rest of his life.
3. Piccolo dies a hero, having completely changed from the demon who sought to destroy the Earth (even moreso in the anime, where he takes a bullet...er, Death Beam for his arch-enemy Goku). He's discovered his past and fought on his home planet.
4) Vegeta realizes that he'll never be better than Goku (he even admits it when trying to convince Trunks not to give him Senzu beans) and declares that he'll never fight again.
4. Vegeta dies acknowledging Goku as his superior, the one-and-only Super Saiyan, and the last hope to kill Freeza.

True, but ending at the Pilaf Saga would probably be better than that shitty ending.

But I kinda liked the ending of Z because it summed up what the theme of the Buu arc was which was leaving everything to the next generation and not to Goku, Vegeta, Piccolo and Gohan. Could it have been done better? Hell yeah since if that were the case Goku would just not have come back under any circumstance. But I'm glad that that theme was realized.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

...

I just can't bring myself to want the series to end sooner than it did. Without the Cell and Boo arcs, we have no SSJ2 Gohan transformation, no Great Saiyaman, no Mr. Satan befriending Boo, and no Super Ghost Kamikazes. =/

The problem I had with the ending was that it just felt like the end of an arc, not an entire series. Honestly there are very few differences between the end of the Freeza Arc, the Cell Arc and the end of the series. All three have Goku off in some other place, totally by choice, training. There was nothing particularly special for any of them.

That's why I love the Saiyajin Arc. At the end, he can't even get off the ground!

For me that's just really sad...I don't like outright sad endings.
2. Gohan is the most powerful being in the universe, the only remaining Z Warrior, and had his hidden powers drawn out by Guru.
Wait, what about Piccolo and Vegeta? Piccolo never actually died and they'd still make the wish to bring everyone back, this Vegeta. Vegeta may have still been evil, but Piccolo was much stronger than a non-angry Gohan.
4. Vegeta dies acknowledging Goku as his superior, the one-and-only Super Saiyan, and the last hope to kill Freeza.
Definitely a good one...But I've always preferred the Buu Era's admittance...Simply because they actually fight together afterword and we get to see the fruits of this admittance in their relationship.

I'm personally a fan of the Buu Era's ending...I actually recently posted something over on the FUNi Forums about this...I'll just copy/paste...

A lot of people give the Buu Era a lot of bad mouthing. Saying it was the worst of all the (Canon) Z Saga's...While I do kind of agree that this is true, I still think it was an amazing Saga and FOR ME, the best way to close out DragonBall.

I'm not talking about the whole 28'th Tenkaichi Budokai and Goku flying off with Uub. I mean the Saga as a whole. It brought the Vegeta character around perfectly as well as the Goku/Vegeta relationship. Plus the ending to the main villain was the best for me.

I mean if it ended with Freeza you have Goku & Freeza both being lost in Namek's explosion. With the Cell Era you have Goku dying and Gohan saving the day. Now while both endings are very good in their own sense, they're just too sad for me. I'm really a happy ending person...I don't like watching a series and getting invested into it and then being sad at the end. The Buu Era on the other hand gave me, what I personally was looking for. Goku alive and well. Happy & smiling. And the hero. A lot of people liked the Cell Era's concept of Gohan taking over the helm but that just doesn't work for me. Gohan simply is not a warrior. He's not the right type to take over as a Hero like that. Yes he seems to get focused once he ascends to SSJ2. But it's just like Piccolo said...He's not like Goku. I like watching the man who I've watched grow up from a young boy and followed his story and quest for all this time to end the day as the hero. Not his son. But that's just me.

But also like I said before, I like the way it brings Vegeta around. Vegeta's character development was much more drawn out and extensive unlike Piccolo's. First you have him as this hardcore villain and watch him slowly start to fight along side of the Z-Fighters. Even if it was just for his own selfish desires. Then you finally see him give a rat's ass about someone in his son when Trunks is killed. That's why I love the Buu Era, it gives you Vegeta after he has that "revelation". That even though he's still this rough around the edges guy, he ultimately has grown to care about Bulma, Trunks, the entire Planet of earth. It just brings his character full circle for me.

Then you have the Goku/Vegeta relationship. I'm not really talking about Vegeta admitting that Goku's simply better than him. I'm talking about how for the first time, they work together. Against Buu, fusing. It's just like before, even though they fought on the same side. They didn't work together as a team. So their fusion was really simply gold for me. And the clincher has got to be right after Vegeta admits Goku is #1. When Vegeta is willing to risk his own life so Goku can have the time to power up. Goku's dialogue is perfect. Especially that last "Stay alive" to Vegeta.

As far as the Dub Vs.Original Japanese goes in that scene. The dialogue is pretty much the same. But I prefer the Dub...Just the way they worded it...Even though it's saying the same thing. Just the slight difference in wording coupled with Schemmel's great delivery made that scene for me.

"You died once...If anything happens to you now you won't exist anymore. There'll be nothing I can do to bring you back. Stay alive, ok?"

PERFECT!!!
