haha Seriously, a live-action movie is one thing, but an animated series based on a movie that was based on an animated series? That's just a headache waiting to happen. (Just saying it hurts. :P )
I'd say so.

My main beef is that the original will be lost.

Ah well, at least it'll be good eye candy.

Check me up there under the horrific possibility of it replacing the original.

The only thing that could save that for me would be one of the dub Gokus voicing him.

I don't think there will be any "new" animated series though. Toei can tend to twist your arm if it doesn't get things a certain way. (And in this case it's a good thing).

I doubt if the "new manga/cartoon" thing will come to fruition, and of course nothing's going to erase or replace the original of either. I could see some sort of limited-series, short manga or comic adaptation of the movie. A lot of such films get that nowadays.

In the minds of the public, I mean.

Why in the world would WE care what the public thinks?

Public opinion of Dragonball is already bad anyway, seriously. The public can think what they want. I like Dragonball because Dragonball is good, and what someone else thinks due to the dub, the movie, or anything coming from the movie is not my concern.

Not like it would change my opinion but I'm sadly still at that point in my life where hearing people mistake something for something else would just irrate me beyond all hope.

Alright. Posted it. Basically Fox confirmed to me the movie (and it looks like the full movie) will be shown at the london licensing expo.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

Whoa, (October 1 to the 2nd) that's in under a week.

This is Licensing Expo; is it the sort of thing only businesses attend or is it open to the public? (Not that I'll be in London anytime soon; but I know a few people in England who I could pass the info along to.)

If you register you can attend.

HOWEVER, screenings are by invitation only. I don't want to sound pretentious but I think Fox would have allowed me to attend if I was in the area.

Oh, and opinions on the ... manga? I don't know how that would work.

At the most, I'm picturing a short, mini-series adaptation of the movie itself, whether it be a "manga" or a "comic." Happens with a lot of superhero-esque action movies.

Like how the Force Unleashed got it's own comic to go along with the game release, in addition to the novel and action figures and possible movie adaptation... So, same treatment I guess.

I can guarantee you that VIZ will fight that. They have such a strong grip on the manga industry (especially regarding Dragonball) and that I bet they will want to stay the only people releasing Dragonball manga. It would be cool though and I would like to see it made.

So then this would be the same screening lovely would have been asked to attend, if she were legit. How does the fact that a private screening is taking place in London make everything she said automatically true?

Also, what exactly are your credentials again? Did I miss something here? Is there any proof to back up your claims? They all seem to be word of mouth.

SSJmole wrote:To be fair Family film does not mean ruined. Take X-men. They changed costumes and altered things from comics but it worked. In the comics there was moments where Magneto ripped the metal out of wolverine (sick) never made it on screen

Spider-man is another example. The goblin throwing spider-man's Girlfriend off a bridge should have meant Death but they didn't they opted for a more family film

It worked, both of those = huge success and family films. Had the age rating gone up based on stuff like the death scene the companies involved wouldn't have made as much money
I never meant it as in "family film = ruined." What I said (or at least meant to say) as that its a "family film" but they're "trying to get more adults in Dragonball" simultaneously. Those goals seem to be stretching the film in different directions in terms of what its trying to accomplish. Its part of why Ninja Turtles fans in their twenties and thirties who know the source material (the comics) had a bit of beef with the latest TMNT movie. The director wanted to appease older, more initiated fans without being so deep that a random person couldn't watch it. However, the studio wanted a "family film" so it got stretched too thin in terms of demographic and, while still successful, wasn't nearly as successful as it could've been.

So master roshi isn't " a true sexual pervert" it doesn't say he can hit on the women at all it's just been toned down
The director said, "So we removed that part of the character.” That's not toning down. That's just taking it out completely. I'm sure they could've gotten away with what you're talking about, but it doesn't seem like they'll even do that. Its just something interesting I noticed.

You have to prove things if you want people to believe you. Otherwise why should anyone listen to you?

The fact that Roshi is seen wearing this shirt in the movie and chow-yun-fat himself said that Roshi (in the film) like women gives me hope that they won't butcher the character.

And with good reason—he’s got movie secrets to keep! If a group of forum posters got a hold of them, who knows what peril the producers would be in??

That image did give me a bit of hope for the perverted side of him glimmering through just a little bit. I didn't realistically think that he was gonna be like in the manga, but what the director is saying makes me think that his shirt may just about be the extent of it.

Of course, Marsters said Piccolo was green and look what we've gotten so far. Guess I can't really believe much until we get some trailers.
