I'm pretty sure that the footage they are using for all of their season sets are from the same set of film transfers. The quality differences between seasons is due to changes in the remastering process, not the quality of the film transfers.Vekurotto wrote:I'm pretty sure the footage that they had and "remastered" was probably 5th or 6th or something completely bottom of the barrel gen for at least for Seasons 1-5 because of how much of the "remastering" side-effects that happened. I think if the film was of higher quality there wouldn't have been as many problems. I'm pretty sure that the episodes from here on out will look pretty good though save the zooming in they did since Funi already had higher quality masters and the episodes already looked good before whatever remastering hit them.
Season Six Discussion Thread
The film masters for the later episodes are no doubt better than the ones from Seasons 1 and 2.SSj_Rambo wrote:I'm pretty sure that the footage they are using for all of their season sets are from the same set of film transfers. The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

That's right... no missing lines, but it looks more than marginally better; it looks insanely better than the previous seasons.SSJToreto wrote:Season 6 looks marginaly better in my eyes. Haven't been on these forums since like... season 3.

Anyway, looks like they decided to keep the film grain this time around. No missing lines anymore I would guess, right?

This scene looks grainy because every frame is completely different from previous (ones), and later frames (are also this grainy) because of the lightning effect of the Kamehameha. The grain removal filter doesn't affect (the footage) in these cases. People used to video editing will know what I'm talking about.
Just look at the other screenshots; the grain has been removed. Only this scene is grainy.

Go for it, dude. Seriously, they look so much better than the previous sets.Vegard Aune wrote:I heard that there are a few in the first couple of episodes. I think you're horribly confusing the grain inherent in the film used to produce the show, and the effects of macroblocking due to poor digital compression.biohazard wrote:This scene looks grainy because every frame is completely different from previous (ones), and later frames (are also this grainy) because of the lightning effect of the Kamehameha. Another image if anyone wants to compare:

I mainly stuck it in here because of Vegeta's eye colour. It seems more natural than the other images we have seen.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

I watch all my DVD's on a Pioneer Elite PRO-910HD display that has been calibrated using GetGray and THX RGB filters. The DVD player is an Oppo DV-980H, outputting a 480i signal via HDMI to my Denon AVR-3808CI which deinterlaces and upscales it to 720p and goes to the television via HDMI. It's all setup to main OAR also, no noise reduction etc.SSJToreto wrote:ect5150, Corey what do you watch your Dragon Box dvd's on? LCD tv? 4:3 CRT TV's? PC Monitor for me! I don't have a Region 2 player, although I do have a 47" 1080P LCD with an upscaling DVD player (haven't gone BluRay... yet!)SSJToreto wrote:ect5150, Corey what do you watch your Dragon Box dvd's on? LCD tv? 4:3 CRT TV's? I'd also like to know what DVD player you use etc...
I have made one DBox movie, added my own subtitles, and reburned it to a Region 1 disc. It rocks... I think I've shown off the pic before though.
Click thru for larger image:
Eventually, I'll just encode all of them to my PC, and run a cable form the PC to the TV. Although I may re-make my own DVD's from the movies. The episodes are too numerous to do so as making one disc is somewhat time consuming.
