I never liked Toma's design at all, in fact I've never liked Toma period.
They say absolutely nothing about him and he gets minimal screen time, yet we're supposed to feel some sort of sympathy and pity for him when he dies.

I love the Bardock special don't get me wrong...just not Toma.

I actually found backstory like that for all of Turles' henchmen, and posted it in this old thread. But I didn't find it in the daizenshuu, but rather from the Japanese Wikipedia page for DBZ movie 3, which says it’s official background information. Now, Japanese Wikipedia isn’t any more infallible than the English version (I’ve mentioned before how screwy their pages on the Legacy of Goku series is), but since certain bits of the backstory it gives are referenced in Daizenshuu 7 (like Rezun and Rakasei’s race), I think it’s probably genuine.

Anyway, my favorite movie henchmen are Garlic Jr.’s, for all the reasons already cited. After them (maybe even tied) would be Lucifer’s minions from DB movie 2. Ghaster and the butler were very cool, and I love the designs for Lucifer’s legions of demons. Like the rest of the movie, it feels very unique and different from anything else in DragonBall, but not so much that it feels it doesn’t belong.

What about Vegeta on Namek? I'd say most people were rooting him on. I certainly was. Despite the fact that he was killing innocent Nameks and loving it.

Yeah, I've been wanting to see that and the rest of the pre-22 TB filler for awhile now. All I've seen of the DB anime is the beginning up to the 21st TB, and then the second half of the Piccolo Daimao arc to the end, so there's a lot I haven't seen. It sucks that the Funi releases are so hard to find, but maybe I'll get the Madman box sets, or some of the Region 2 DVDs.
(the ruler of all regular, Earthbound demons).
Earthbound demons? You mean like the evil Mani-Mani statue?

I like Toma because he used as a plot-device tool thing. He reveals to Bardock of Freeza's betrayal and he makes me feel sad but anger for Bardock.

I really like the movies where everybody fights.

Like the Bojack movie, Turles, and Broly.

Sauza and Jeice are from the same star system....also it seems that he has more history with Ginyu (vying for the captaincy of the presumably later-named Ginyu Tokusentai) than Jeice, outside place of origin.
Something neat I literally just found out today is that both of those pieces of information are mentioned in DragonBall Z Son Goku Densetsu, along with Toriyama's designs for Coola's henchmen, saying that the information was printed in an issue of Weekly Jump that came out right before the movie's premier. That's the same as it says on the Japanese Wikipedia page for DBZ movie 5, but it's nice to finally have confirmation from something more official than Wikipedia. It also says Neiz's race evolved from amphibians, and that Dore was a galactic pro-wrestler and that his toughness is due to his home planet being covered in magma (this is also on Wikipedia, but again, it's good to know some Japanese fan didn't just make it up).

Tullece's associates are my preferred henchmen in the series. I wish they were introduced in the main continuity as King Cold’s squad.

Yes, generally people like the fighting in a series centered around fighting. =P

I liked the designs of Bojack and his henchmen best. The pirate motif wasn't particularly glaring in the series up to that point, and it was neat to see Toriyama's style applied to that. Plus it made it all the more liberating when Gohan completely tore into them--the design was never seen again! XD
