Possibly. Have you calibrated your setup? That might be making it more apparent.

No, I haven't bothered calibrating my monitor, neither do I have the necessary knowledge to do so... I suppose you need special software?

Nah. Try this site, never used it before but at a glance it appears to cover things:

Here are the comparison videos for Season 6, I might do a few other from different seasons. I've redone the low-quality version as well.

High Quality
http://www.mediafire.com/?kwoamgwg1ry (~72 Megs)

Low Quality
http://www.mediafire.com/?yrjhxtykymz (~6 megs)

It should be obvious which is DBox and which is the widescreen. Audio is DBox as there is no comparison there on which is better.

My monitor doesn't even have controls for 3/4 of those tests. I did cut my contrast by half though. Lets hope I know what I'm doing.

I've been watching my Season One set, and I'm honestly starting to wonder why I've been fussing over these season sets.

I mean, when you've only seen the Japanese version on VHS tapes, it's really hard to complain about the remastering process. In general, this is the best Japanese Dragonball has looked for me in a long time, and...so far, my viewings have only had me notice an Oni's mouth disappearing while the car was shaking, which was annoying for a bit.

Honestly, with a little bit of color correcting on a computer with any program, these sets can look pretty nice. I have even gotten Season Two to look almost as good as the Dragon Boxes (color-wise) and I am considering making custom recropped horizontally 4:3 DVD's of these sets after my PC gets repaired. Honestly, that way it is only a little bit more zoomed in than the FUNi singles.

The disappearing lines are the only issues I have, and the picture quality past Season One (After you color correct) is about the same as their other earlier DVDs anyway, and these even have better encoding!

But enough of that. I don't want this to get into a flame war over the sets.

Season Six looks surprisingly good. I mean, I know it's obviously not DragonBox level, but still.

Considering you can get 20-30 episodes with original audio and BGM with English voices, I'd say yes.(But thats just me, and I don't really care about all the "faux" remastering. I mean, I'd like DBox Quality, but its not that important to me.)

I want the DragonBox, but I'm poor...I'll just grab this then, thanks!

I got Season One for $20 in-store at Wal-Mart. Some of the other older sets are now $24.

If you buy them at $20-24 bucks, you're saving $6-10 per set. That's something like $64-90 saved overall, so those few bucks here or there can make a huge difference.

Thats basically why I'm getting the Funi sets, too!

@Kamikaze: Yeah, only the newer ones are up to $30, the older ones are cheaper.

Yep, which is why these sets are selling. At the Anime Club I run at my school, I know three people who have the sets just because of the cheap price. Two of them aren't even fans of the show. The other one just likes the fighting.

That's kind of strange that they bought season sets to a show they don't even like.

-edit- Am I glitching out or something because I just looked at my post count and its over 1000 which seems way too high for some reason.

Honestly, I really don't think thats possible with the video quality of the season two set, it's overbrightened to the point I don't think the more subtle colours like the pink in the skintones even exist anymore, no matter how much you tweak it.

And believe me, I've tried.

You kidding me, Season 6's brightness in this boxset was turned way down, and in some scenes there even seems to be a blue tint to it "Most noticable when the Cell JRs appeared"

I'd rather see what's happening then see nothing in darkness, so a little contrast ajusting wouldn't harm this set but Funi messed up on this one

Wait, I'm confused--I was under the impression that the grainy picture posted earlier in the thread was DragonBox quality. Are you saying it's not? If so, I'd like to see an example of the quality from the DragonBox so I could determine if I prefer that or not.

And please excuse my newbish questions; I'm still getting into the hang of things. :P
