Well, something happened in that regard at SOME point.Conan the SSJ wrote:Rewatched the trailer, was that a shot of Goku and Chichi kissing in that embrace...? I'm talking a passionate type kiss that you would never see Goku doing, not even with his wife. Good going to completely miss the point of his naive child-bumpkin complex with romance.
See: Gohan, Goten
I liked the new Indiana Jones, actually. More than Temple of Doom, even, though not as much as Raiders or NEARLY as much as Last Crusade.SSJ Helldog wrote:Had a similar conversation with my significant other about the new Indiana Jones flick. She feels that bad sequels poison a franchise, but I think good entries speak for themselves.

All offscreen. That's the point with Goku, he'd only ever be like that in the privacy of his own bedroom after being married to Chichi. The only time I remember him actually kissing her onscreen was after he was cured of his heart disease, and even that wasn't shown fully onscreen. I mean this is a guy that married Chichi, not because he was in love with her, but because of a mistaken promise he made when he was 12 years old and felt obliged to keep. Call the guy Clark Kent or Peter Parker or Warren Meyers, but something like this does not make "Chatku" Son Goku in my opinion.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:See: Gohan, Goten

Well seeing as how this was shown at an expo I wonder if anything else will be shown about it. The whole things is supposed to be today and tomorrow. They had to just show more than a 40 second trailer.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

And I see that. And as a person that watches the Japanese track with subtitles so I can see what I percieve to be the "real" Goku, I can empathize.Conan the SSJ wrote:All offscreen. But it's not like the Goku we know is overtly AGAINST that kind of thing, either. I'm thinking that, with the right set-up, we could still end up with something like our Goku. With enough Chichi pestering and directions, it could prove to be pretty funny.
Now, I know that this kind of optimistic outlook is, for the most part, rather ridiculous. But I still don't think we know enough to completely rule out the possibility of a half-decent execution. I mean, we have a teaser trailer...with no audio. I dunno, it just doesn't seem like enough to really show what movie Goku is like.
I'm not the kind of person who will force a guy into a theater before I let them get upset about a bad adaptation. But I do think that we're working off scraps here, and scraps can be decieving, in my experience.

Seeing that scene in particular reminds me of the fact that after he was roped into accepting her engagement, Goku kept telling her not to hold on to his arm.Conan the SSJ wrote:Rewatched the trailer, was that a shot of Goku and Chichi kissing in that embrace...? Aw man, I'm not looking forward to a romantic subplot between Chat-ku and Chi-chi.
As opposed to what? XDsangofe wrote:Looks like your random Hollywood live-action movie.

Really now... wasn't I the "wait for a fricken trailer" guy? Were there others on my bandwagon? Cuz I'm just now posting, and I haven't said an unkind word about anyone's opinion.omegacwa wrote: I don't believe I ever said wait till the trailer, although I could be wrong. Just saying.
Anyway...
I assume this is official, since it says it's from the FOX stand at the expo.
This- not super impressed. Not particularly unimpressed, either. It looks cool, but generic. Might as well be called Crouching Monkey, Hidden Eternal Dragon, from what I can see here. On the other hand... it's a a realllllllly bad copy. I've never once seen one of these and been impressed. Remember when leaked Dark Knight footage was going around? I didn't care one bit. And those had audio.
So it looks like I'm still seeing Max Payne. I really can't appreciate a trailer unless it's, like, not washed out, shaky, fuzzy as hell, and has some sound.
One question. It's really hard to make out, but the field shot... could that be Goku weighted down delivering milk? Cuz if so, the whole rest of the movie could blow and I'm still going.

To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.
But the thing is DB is not set in the real world or even tries to look like it.SSj Kaboom wrote:This is striking me more like what the "Ultimate" Marvel comics are to their original series. Modernized re-tellings. Not replacing or purposely mirroring the original stories, but not really meant to. Ultimate Spidey's "changes" have a good deal of similarities to those of this movie, come to think of it.
Until I see this on Apple Trailers, or some other Trailers website like Yahoo Movies, it is not an official trailer.
Much like the leaked Spider-Man 3 trailer that hit the web a long time ago, that ended up being nothing like any of the theatrical trailers that actually appeared, you know, in theaters.

I think Goku actually had feelings for ChiChi, after marrying her... am I alone? Well, of course these had to develop later; but...
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
No actually that's what everyone wants! See if this movie was made in Japan, Produced by Akira Toriyama, Co-Directed by Eiichiro Oda, Had an all Japanese cast that went and filmed the movie panel by panel like the manga, word for word, and had a soundtrack composed by Shunsuke Kikuchi, and then at the end had every voice actor from the anime go back and dub over every single real actors lines, then and ONLY then would this movie be everyone's bread and butter. People would watch it and be like "Now this is MY Dragon Ball, This is the show I grew up with, watching this movie IMPROVES my childhood and stuff like that. Then Toei would produce a new show to go along with the movie and people would eat it up because Toei was in charge so it's A ok. Then Dimps could make a new fighting game and the character models would be the actors from the movie (voiced over by the original actors of course) and that would be ok too. People wouldn't say "Oh its just a way to cash in" but instead say "Boy I can't wait to import that shit!" If FOX could have just done ALL of that then there really wouldn't be much to complain about.SSJ Helldog said: Would you really want to see a live-action DB with talking animals? It works in manga, but it'd be lame on film.

But that's his character! He doesn't give a damn about Chi-chi! She's the creepy stalkerish hick who forced a brain-damaged kid into promising to marry her and, after collecting his man seed, doesn't seem to give a shit about him either.Rocketman wrote:I am. Goku is a complete unlikable dick in that field. I recall after being nearly beaten to death, she leaps over his body to get to Gohan, prompting Kuririn to try to persuade her that Goku's the one she should worry about.
That's their relationship and I find it hilarious.

Not to mention when Yajirobe complains to her about not caring about Goku on the plane, she pretty much brushes him off and Yajirobe goes something like "Goku, can I hit her?" and Goku's all ^^; about it.
Later on in the hospital Chi-Chi also ditches him because she was "bored".
(Sorry, I just re-read that volume a couple days ago so its all fresh in my mind. ^^; )
I do think they care about each other to some extent though. :3
Also, trailer still reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_YgupUZNdw but I'll wait for a trailer with sound before I pass any final judgements.
On hiatus.

Thank you for the addendum, and there's that one moment in the trailer where Piccolo is thrown into the air by Chat-ku's ki blast, and does an over dramatic horizontal spin with a pillar of fiery explosion behind him that seems like it was pulled directly from a Power Rangers fight.Chuquita wrote:Also, trailer still reminds me of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_YgupUZNdw but I'll wait for a trailer with sound before I pass any final judgements.
