Seems a bit sexist that you guys only want the female characters in this movie to do nothing (like in the anime).

LOL.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

She's freaking because Goku just picked up her car and threw it, and she dropped it because he just stood up from getting shot in the forehead. :P (Note: has not watched that clip, is going off the manga)

Dragon Ball? Yes, kinda.
But hey, I'm not worried: I'm sure the movie version will be sexist in its own way.

Bulma kicking some ass is an improvement, if you ask me.

Looking like Lara Croft though, twin guns blazing? I could do without that...

As long as there's some boobage I could care less if it's sexist, it's only a movie.

Every character? I want Bulma to not look like a Bond-girl reject.

Let Chi-chi kick ass. Let Mai attempt to kick ass and fall on her face.

I think you're over compensating in an attempt at avoiding accusations of sexism by making every leading woman into a fighter at the expense of the character.

Yeah, I'm not seeing the problem. Bulma keeps her original character of being shallow and slutty, but she also gets to kick some ass.

Hey, I happen to like Bulma being all Agent-ish. She was freaking out because Goku survived when she shot him, that's why. I'd love to see that in the movie, but that's so unlikely.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Why exactly is physical attractiveness an excuse for poor character design again? Are we in 5th grade here?

All I know is that the females in this movie look hot and actually DO something as opposed to being there just to be annoying (like Bulma dub).

My response to your first reply to me is this: my point is that she carried a side arm, and that she traveled a dangerous landscape full of bandits, monsters, and dinosaurs without protection prior to meeting Goku. The sheer notion of her having a gun and knowing how to aim it is not, in and of itself, a ruination of Toriyama's sacred bible.

Unless I missed something crucial, which is possible given how fast these fucking threads grow every time I take a second to live life, I think you're overreacting.

Bulma holding a gun and not freaking out =/= fighter. I agree with Rocketman. They can toughen her up a bit (she was whiny as hell in the Pilaf Saga) without destroying her character. Do we know the context of that picture you posted for me? If she's holding that gun on Piccolo with that bad ass expression, then yes- I 100% agree with you. When the big bad shows up, Bulma gets out of Goku's way (as she basically should, what with his super powers and all). But that could be her first meeting/misunderstanding with Goku, a bad run in with Yamcha, or just some random thugs/bandits for all I can tell.

That's a matter of opinion. I think the ladies look better than Chatku (I'm sorry, I just look at him and see the god-awful movie "The Invisible"), Blondie-bear Yamcha and Palecollo.

Ok, Mai looks a little silly. But she's got a goofy jetpack and a silly, inpractical, cleavage-showing top, making her possibly the most "light-hearted shonen manga"-looking character in the bunch.
To show my appreciation, I'll only beat them half to death.

Am I really? I said I don't like Agent Bulma and that I don't believe I'm sexist for having that opinion.

Now, if I were to, say, post a video on youtube, ranting about... uh...
Onikage725 wrote:The sheer notion of her having a gun and knowing how to aim it is not, in and of itself, a ruination of Toriyama's sacred bible.
Yeah, that... Then I'd be over reacting.

Fortunately, I'm not one of the people who think this movie will ruin Dragonball as a whole, only that I personally don't find it, or Agent Bulma, appealing.

Q.E.D, I think you're over reacting to my reaction.

It’s just that, anytime anyone points out a perceived deficit with a female character, everyone who disagrees basically responds with “lol eyecandy,” as if that somehow absolves any given flaws they might have.

I find the cleavage-showing to be more exploitative than “silly.” Not that I particularly mind cleavage in its own right, but it’s an obvious cop-out on who the character really is so that the movie can cash in on sex appeal. In the series, Mai probably dresses the least suggestively of any other character. I mean really, is this supposed to be the same person we see in the trailer?

Furthermore, the whole mood of the movie seems to be overly serious, not at all the “light-hearted shōnen” style which I would otherwise expect.

In large part, I do it because whatever their 'flaws', the women in Dragonball The Movie have way, way, waaaaaaaaaaaaay more role than the women in original Dragonball.

Normally, I'm not the kinda guy to bitch about that sort of thing, aside from lamenting ChiChi being brushed aside as rapidly as she showed up. What's done is done, hell, I think the manga is older than I am. But in a new adaption of the series... honestly, if they make Bulma less of a whiny useless bitch and more of an action girl, that's a freaking improvement.

I'm not sure which King Piccolo Saga you were watching, but I don't recall a lot of ROFL-worthy moments.

I for one can't wait until we see the CGI. Notice no CGI was in that trailer. They are saving it.

The Fireball was CGI, the Kamehameha was definitely CGI.

If it was a Kamehameha, I mean, c'mon, Roshi shooting a blue energy wave...?

It happens just before "ROSHI" appears on the screen, after "MAI".
