I think the trailer looks promising.

At the very least, they aren't trying to precisely emulate the series in live-action. Rather, they are going in a completely different route, which could end up either good or bad.

If you go in with the mindset that different = bad, however, you will automatically hate it no matter how good it could potentially be. Think about the logistics of this for a second-- how EXACTLY would you have them adapt DRAGONBALL to the screen 100 percent faithful to the original version in live-action without failing miserably? It would be near impossible.

I'm glad they're taking the story in a completely different direction. It could be fun. Goku's comment about him "not being ready" kind of bothered me, however. So did the quick shot of him making out with Bulma or whoever that was. Both of them felt kind of sacrilegious, considering the character. Oh, and his hair looks really fucking stupid.

I'm going to watch with an open mind, however.

This movie is going to bomb. Curse Hollywood for not letting Asian filmakers make a live action Dragonball the way it's meant to be made. I can't believe Chow Yun-Fat skipped out on John Woo's Red Cliff films (which was actually pretty good, by the way) for this piece of shit!
I hate to say the same thing AGAIN, but please reserve comments like this until you have, you know, seen the movie. Comments like that are fine if they are your honest opinion based on actually seeing the movie, and even then they are immature.
Yeah! Where do you get off commenting about Dragonball the Movie in a thread about Dragonball the Movie on omegacwa's forum!!

Honestly, some people...

I hope for the best, but I see very little light.

That was Chi-Chi. Or possibly Mai, disguised as Chi-Chi.

This looks like a Piccolo to me. I like the realistic look that it has to it.

Yet it's fine to call this movie hot shit in a champagne glass when you haven't seen it yet?
It's just less annoying I guess

But no, being extreme on either side is never good. It's better to have a moderate outlook until you see something, then you can be as extreme as you want. Not that I condone extremism, as it is ridiculous.

But, yes I see plenty of flaws with this movie, I am not an idiot. I am just more excepting than the rest I suppose. I am a bit of a movie buff, I have seen countless movies as my father raised me on cinema, ranging from strange indy films to Hollywood blockbusters, I have seen it all (not all movies but pretty much every subject). I have seen the worst of the worst, and the best of the best, and I can tell you just by the trailer this seems no where near the bottom, but that doesn't mean it won't end up leaning that way.
If there was a middle line for quality of movies, lets just say, a movie like No Country for old Men, or the Departed were on one side of this line, and on the other was Manos: The Hands of Fate, or Shark Attack 3. Most movies tend to fall somewhere very close to the middle line. That is where I believe this movie will end up, just north, or just south of the middle line. I could be surprised and it could leap in either direction, but at this point there is no way of knowing.
And for the record, I will say Mortal Kombat one is right at the line, with MK:A way below.

I'm just kind of concerned that they didn't do any background research on the character at all.

I mean, if you're going to completely change what makes Goku, well, Goku, why bother calling him that at all?

To me, it seems like if they planned on taking it in a drastically different direction, they should have just came up with all-new characters, and have loose ties to the original story.

Whatever dude. I am just trying to keep this civilized, it's comments like his that make people start yelling and get the thread closed.

Also, I am pretty sure if they made all new characters everyone would have immediately hated it, even those of us who still think the movie could be good.

Just saw the trailer ... er, watched, then read over a dozen pages of nonsense. We had a yellow car, then a kiss, now Bulma's gun.

I like the trailer. But what are all the anti's looking for? Does everyone have to wear the exact copy of their outfits from the anime/manga to look like them? Or do they need to also have the same exact hairdos? <aybe they need to have their faces reconstructed as well? Did people do this for the X-men and Spiderman movies before they came out cuz if so, then I'm happy I wasn't around for it.

And why does everyone ask to see the Kamehameha in the trailer? That's asking a lot from something that at most can only be 2 and a half minutes. Also, what can they show you in that short of time that would make this movie "seem" like Dragonball and also be appropriate for a trailer for an Action/Adventure?

And the complaints about the Ki attacks. Hours before I came to the site today, I was thinking about how someone mentioned how in the soundless trailer the attacks looked like Force attacks from TFU and I thought that that might be an excelent way to do it. this is Ki we're talking about. It's supposedly life force or energy or something other. Plus in the other topic, it was brought up about how it's supposed to burn. I think the best course for this would be the misty, lite flamy way it was shown but as the attacks get stronger and stronger it becomes less and less invisible-ish and gain density and what not. Trying to create some sort of laser-ishness to it seems silly and cartoonish to me. Although the closest thing I can think to seeing an enegry beam in Live Action would be Cyclops' Optic Blast.

Aside Piccolo not being Green, he looks ok and evil. That is what Daimo is suppose to do, put evil in your heart!

Is Goku not Goku cuz he kissed Chi-chi? Or because we saw him kiss her?

Is Bulma not Bulma becasue she carries a gun and knows how to use it?

Is Roshi not Roshi because he doesn't have a beard? I get that they toned down the pervertedness, but we really can have an old man feeling up young girls and whatnot. But in this I can see the lessened characterizations.

Are all of the characters in the series solely characterized by how they look and what their origins are? Or by what they actually do? How often is Goku backstory of living alone with only knowing one other person for his first twelve years referenced in series? How about the fact that Krillin was bullied by the other monks in the monastery? What about Tien's own shaded history?

Well then Son isn't Son since he did something worse. He actually nailed her and got her knocked up TWICE. So I don't know why we're whining because he kissed the woman that he "loves".

Really? I always thought that Chi-chi spiked his food one night, jacked him off in his sleep, collected the sample, and artificially inseminated herself.
Goku was curious about the baby, but she told him a stork delivered it and he believed her, lovable retard as he is.

Now, it sounds absurd, I know... but the point is, you can't say I'm wrong. You don't know. It's not in the story.

I'll say it again..

Goku isn't capable of that kind of romantic love, his feelings for Chichi would have been cultivated over years, there was no chemistry or love at first sight, it was Chi-chi's persistance that brought them together.

They're really just shoehorning in a love story where there isn't one because they think thats what the audience wants, regardless of the fact it's completely out of character.

Chi-Chi: "I want a baby"

Goku: "I'm not ready for this!"

Get it?, it's a quote from the trailer!, I was poking fun at...oh never mind.

Maybe she did it the same way Glen Close's character did in "The World According to Garp".

Not what the audience wants, but rather what normal people would expect, especially if they were to have a sequel with little Gohan. Poeple would wonder why these two who have never shown interest in each other would have a kid together and be married. Goku and Chi-chi can be Vegeta and Bulma.
