That would be supreme win for sure.Chuquita wrote:Captain-Sora wrote:Ah, Death Note, well that series is ok to me, the anxiety presented in it isn't the childish generic ones, it's at least something that someone would be stressed about such as getting cornered in a battle of wits between groups of people and such.
Anyways, for OP, let's be thankful FUNI's saving it, sure they were lame back in the DBZ days but ever since Yu Yu Hakusho's dub, they rocked and One Piece's funi version looked cool, PLUS they're re-dubbing the first arcs and releasing them uncut which is a major plus.
I am thankful to Funi for rescuing OP. TTuTT
I really hope they start dubbing the other One Piece movies soon; I want to buy movies 4 and 6 from them SO badly.
Also, the new OP movie that comes out this spring, the one Oda wrote himself, looks REALLY good.
Hey at least I don't have to worry about Hollywood ever making a live action OP movie. :3

Anyway, I've seen the trailer, and I'm not going to lie: It does look and feel a bit on the cheesy thing. But that doesn't mean I'm being all bummed out, this is just a short trailer, and the movie could still be a pleasant suprise. It probably won't be the great adaptation we all hoped it would be, but at least is could still be a pleasant little suprise. Even if each piece of media/news that come out seems a little bit worse.

That One Piece "movie summary" made me laugh and sad at the same time.
On hiatus.
Was that One Piece movie idea supposed to be funny? One Piece is something I actually might have a problem with a live-action movie being attempted. For one, Oda's characters are drawn and designed a LOT more whimsically and deformed than other manga, even DragonBall. And that's only the human characters. On top of that, all the various wacky Devil Fruit powers are MUCH more diverse and complicated than ki techniques in DragonBall. They'd have to go a more realistic route with that, too, making it something akin to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. But everyone's got superhuman abilities.
EDIT: Please excuse me. This post was supposed to just be in reference/response to what Acid was talking about a page back, but the creative half of my brain just kinda decided to asplode.
Anyway, DragonBall. If it were up to me to write this movie, I'd do a lot of things the same way. For the pre-Z era material, I can understand the decision to condense it to one movie. Since most audiences are going to want to see Saiyan and Freeza-related material, it's better to put all of DragonBall in one movie, not only for that reason, but to have a sense of closure with a stand-alone story in case sequels don't happen.
In that case, Piccolo would be the best choice for a villain. Fox's choice to do so, combining elements from both the Piccolo stories as well as working in the "origins" elements for the characters is a smart move. If you ask me, the Red Ribbon Army or the Crane School wouldn't make very good villains unless they were worked into the story with Piccolo somehow. It wouldn't be hard, but Fox decided to keep things simpler. So whatever.
The prologue of the movie would depict a Saiyan pod landing in the mountains, and Grandpa Gohan finding baby Kakarrot. After the opening credits, there'd be a "15 years later..." title.
Goku being a teenager I would keep, mainly because I don't like really like the idea of a child actor playing him. We'll be lucky if Mr. Chatwin's portrayal of Goku is similar to the Goku we all know, but he's got a far better shot at it than some kid. I don't want a repeat of annoying little Anakin from The Phantom Menace. He would probably be a little younger in my version though; maybe 15 or 16. Old enough for romance elements with Chi-Chi though.
Oozaru would be big, but not skyscraper-big, and be more like a "weremonkey" or "hairy hulk" in appearance. Something like this, probably. Little bigger than that though. The tail, I don't know about. It'd probably look silly in live-action, so I'd possibly tweak the catalysts for Ozaru, to allow it without needing a tail.
Piccolo's origins I would adjust somewhat. The corruption/split/defeat/rebirth thing is a bit much for casual audiences to understand and follow. Rather, I'd have one Namekian from the beginning who's corrupted, sealed away, then defeated and set on the path to redemption. From the impressions I've been getting, it looks like Fox is doing something to this effect; combining Kami, Daimao, and Junior into one character. If they are, I think it's another smart move on their part.
Let's see... other changes I would or would not make...
More fantasy-oriented, though not absurdly cartoonish. Scratch the animal people and all that. Same type of "tone" in the world as Fox, with advanced cities and stuff, though for every one of them, there'd be a half-dozen mountainous landscapes with small villages. No characters in schools though.
Chi-Chi would be the princess of the small kingdom which Mt Paozu is within the realm of. Goku and Grandpa Gohan are subjects living off in the mountains a good distance from the castle, and both of them visit their city every so often. She's a far more educated and civilized and less naive person than Goku, but despite the difference in status, she has been friends with him their entire childhood (think Link and Zelda from The Minish Cap). She's obviously got feelings for him, which she manages to get Goku to understand and return during the course of the movie.
Bulma, I like what Fox is doing with her, character-wise. She's still on the same kind of mission with the same spunk, charm, and determination, but she kicks some ass on top of it. Nothing wrong with that. Yamcha, Fox seems to be doing a good job with. Roshi too, though I'd compel Mr. Chow Yun-Phat to grow at least a noticeable-sized beard for the role.
No Pilaf; he's in the same boat as the animal-people, including Shu. So I would probably work in Commander Red as the one who releases him, mistakenly thinking Piccolo would help him in conquering the world. Or Crane Hermit, to go against Roshi, the apprentice of the one who sealed Piccolo away. If neither of them, I'd do what Fox is doing. Include Mai as an homage to Pilaf, but adapt her in a way that makes her dangerous and significant. And sexy.
The story would be similar to what Fox is doing. Piccolo kills Gohan for revenge and the DragonBall: Good. Goku is pulled into action because of it: Good. Bulma is after the DragonBalls and teams up with Goku: Good. Yamcha is an antagonist at first but ends up teaming up with Goku and Bulma once they have a common enemy: Good. World Tournament: Good. Goku loses to Piccolo, tracks down Roshi for training: Good. Piccolo revealing Goku's Saiyan origins, and appealing to his "conquering" nature: Great new addition.
We have no idea what significance the eclipse is going to have for the story. Is it necessary to use the DragonBalls? That wouldn't make much sense. Or is it required to release Piccolo? Will it heighten Piccolo's power somehow? Will it affect Goku in any way? Whatever they do, I'm really looking forward to it. A volcano sounds like a really great setting for a battle too, whether it's the final one of the film or not (one of the recent "insiders" said it's in an abandoned city, which is equally cool, though I'd personally have that the setting for Goku vs Vegeta. More potential for widespread damage there).

I'm guessing it causes his Oozaru transformation. I'm thinking they cut out the whole "tail" thing and use an Eclipse for the transformation. I really know how often full moons occur, but if they went that route(the original one) then it would seem likely that after all these years and all these full moons someone would have already found Goku to be an alien or something.SSj Kaboom wrote: We have no idea what significance the eclipse is going to have for the story. This made me think of something… should this in fact become an actual franchise, and they somehow make it to the Cell era stuff… how in the utter hell is that going to work without the Red Ribbon? Some pretty significant changes would be in order methinks.SSj Kaboom wrote:In that case, Piccolo would be the best choice for a villain. It’s rather dumb either way, considering how very easily workable the Red Ribbon would be in this movie, even WITH Piccolo as the lead villain. Just have them be the guys who initially release him, attempting to try and control and exploit his power to help them conquer the world… but instead of course, Piccolo is too much for them to control, and he winds up using the army as his lackeys instead to help him gather the Dragon Balls. The RR soldiers would also make rather good cannon fodder for Goku and co. throughout the movie.
Another thing... I really don't see what's so horrible about a Saiya-jin tail in live action. I mean, it's just a tail for fuck's sake. It could very easily be put in via CG in post production (similar to Nightcrawler in X-Men 2), and it wouldn't look THAT ludicrous in live action, certainly no more so than Goku's hair. It's a pretty senseless omission I personally think.

I'm in the generation of fans that started with Toonami, so I totally empathize with the feeling of having "missed the party", experiencing disappointment, and wanting to experience it myself. But I can't, that's how life is. Time is a bitch. The party is over. Kageyama, Kikuchi, and Maeda are off the sauce now; Yanami almost OD'd; Yamamoto got arrested; Toriyama's not going to light trash cans on fire and hang from the chandelier anymore. We can't get the band back together, and even if we could, everyone's either old, in poor health, or calmed way the fuck down. Best we're going to get, and are getting, is a party that's almost entirely devoid of the magic that made the original one so awesome that we even want more.

Goku to say or do something that screams, well, Goku. Like him being excited at the chance to get to fight Piccolo. Or something about his naivety or love of food.
I want some in-character Goku-ness.
On hiatus.
I don't think it would get that far. The battle with Freeza is probably the best and most satisfying ending the movies could shoot for. Anything further would be extraneous. It already was in the series, it'd be even moreso in the movies.Kunzait_83 wrote:This made me think of something… should this in fact become an actual franchise, and they somehow make it to the Cell era stuff… how in the utter hell is that going to work without the Red Ribbon? Solar eclipses are much rarer, especially since the band of totality is very small.
Don't worry. If you look, there are plenty of anit-Sasuke people out there(me being oneI really couldn't care less if the Uchiha fagtard was gangbanged by all 9 kyuubi tails. I hate him that much...) I just had another thought about the movies. What if they made a movie for each series? This one for dragonball, one for DBZ, and on for DBGT? How would they go about it?(Should I just make a thread for that question?)

Oh! I'd also like to add (but the forum timed out on me) Goku getting excited about the Tenkaichi Budoukai (or whatever they're naming the tournament in this). I want to see him easily KO-ing people in the preliminary rounds and having fun with it. :3
Oh I'd be relieved if they knock him off before the series is over.
My absolute worst fear for Shippuuden's ending is Sasuke becoming hokage.
