It cost me $25 bucks, it plays just about any video file right off a USB flashdrive, and it lets me switch display modes between PAL, NTSC and PAL 60.

Do you really think that we wont see region free Blu Ray players in the future?

Actually, I think it's because Warner's titles sold better on Blu-Ray, they dropped HD-DVD, and everyone else followed suit.

Exactly, major studios stopped putting their titles out on HD-DVD, being region free had nothing to do with it.

In New Zealand, every DVD player in the market is region free and they're very cheap, about $30 minimum.

I use to have an Action Replay MAX for my PS2 that had DVD Region X on it also so I was able to play any region DVD but my friend destroyed it which made me very angry because I don't know if you can still buy them anymore.

Definitely, we should see one in the next year or two. I'm going to wait for a Blu-Ray Region X for PS3 which should also have DVD Region X in it also.

Lucky you, because you Americans get the best Dragonball Z releases. The ones Madman release here are cheap and they have errors on them. So I'm getting the American releases now.

No, Japan gets the best Dragonball releases (Dragonboxes, Kanzenban, Daizenshuu).

As for the Madman errors, there's only a handful of them, and if you're talking about the season sets, I don't see how the lack of a marathon feature is much of a loss, atleast they went with better packaging.

Definitely, I was just meaning that the US got better releases than Australia and New Zealand, Japan has the best releases but I have no interest in getting the Dragonboxes, maybe the extras but the Season Sets will do for me, I love the widescreen transfer more (just my opinion) and that's what they have.

I wasn't meaning the Marathon Feature, I don't care whether it's there or not because I love having the opening, recaps and endings on each episode. I was meaning encoding errors like on episode 4 on Season One. On second track it played Shunsuke Kikuchis and Mark Menzas at the same time which was very annoying because I love both and want to hear them seperately.

Another one is that the japanese angle is gone and one I particularly hate is the loss of extras like the upcoming Season Set trailers and other FUNimation products.

Speaking of Japan. The other day at Mitsuwa, they had Dragonball Z the Movies! I couldn't afford to buy it, and some other guy bought. But it was a huge surprise.

It won't. The PS3 may be region free for Blu-Rays, but not DVDs. It's stupid, yeah, but that's how they programmed it.

Anyway, I don't know about Dragon Boxes, as I don't own any, but I didn't really notice too much of a difference on the scaling levels on the PS3. Then again, my PS3 is hooked up to a 22" monitor that goes to 1080p, so maybe you'll fare better with a bigger TV (And a better remastering, too)[/i]

I'm confused as to what you're saying. Upscaling anything has a negative affect on the image. Its just that there are better upscalers that do a better job at upscaling. With the PS3's built in upscaler, its hard to notice the difference if it weren't upscaled.

What I'm saying is, if you are capable of watching your Dragonboxes on a CRT (which is 480i/p) do that instead of watching it on a monitor that is NOT that resolution. So basically, you want to avoid upscaling if possible by watching something in its' native resolution. But if you can't, the PS3 is your best option because its upscaler is really good.

Same goes for the Wii. Playing the Wii on an HDTV won't look as good as on a CRT because its native resolution is 480i/p which is what a CRT's is, as opposed to HDTV's which are at least 1366x768

Hmh.. Shouldn't upscaling improve the image? I mean, why would anyone bother upscale anything if the end result looked worse?

I did notice a small improvement, but maybe that's just me.

There's a difference between upscaling and rescaling for a higher resolution. Upscaling involves taking a source image (say, 320x240) and stretching it across a higher resolution, usually by using certain formulas that will take a single pixel of the original image and it expand it to, say, 4 pixels, so the image appears larger. However, this tends to take a hit on the overall quality of an image, making it very pixelated and not taking full advantage of the higher resolutions.

A rescaled image would involve, say, taking the original film, blowing it up to a higher resolution, and sharpening up the image by hand to look nice and crisp, taking advantage of all available pixels. It's why true HD images look a lot clearer than SD footage viewed on an HD television--there's a lot more room for detail.

Admittedly, I don't think I got the terms entirely right, but you should be able to discern between the two easily enough.

Mine came today, with the Funimation logo missing on the front.

The sound on one episode sounds messed up, I was just going over the entire series on VLC for screen shots. It sounds the same as the opening.

Nice that the disappearing lines problem is essentially non-existent on Season Six. Hopefully with further sets they'll disappear altogether.

I noticed the trailer is cropped differently than the actual set, too.

Well during that particular scene, the camera shakes up and down. (It's not the exact same frame. I could've captured them in the same frame, but Power DVD was acting up with the actual Season 6 DVD.)
