What causes scouters to break?
Albeit this might be filler, (excuse the ignorance) in the anime when the minions on Frieza's planet take a look at Namek after Goku has turned Super Saiya-Jin they appear to measure his power, and Frieza's, as off the scale but they can still tell that Goku's power level was still marginally bigger. So maybe if their technology advanced like ours they could create scouters with a power level range into the millions.
Obviously this is Dragonball so I'm probably reading too much into it.

Actually he crushed it in disbelief. However, Freeza's scouter explodes when reading Vegeta's full strength, and that was the same model Ginyu used.Chibi Mystic Gohan wrote:Ginyu's never exploded, actually. He had it when him when he took Goku's body, remember? But Jheece's did when he tried to scan Vegeta's battle power.

That's unknown, but I think it still breaks based on speed, not power.Pain wrote:So what is the registered battle power to make the best scouter explode?
I do, however, get the impression that they can only read up to 1 million, based on how 2nd Form Freeza says his PL is at least 1 mil.

Makes sense. Common sci-fi and gag-manga convention is to have mechanical devices overheat and explode when faced with a logic impossibility. If the device is programmed with a limit of 22,000 and it reads above that number, a logic impossibility will occur.Magica wrote:I'm thinking that if a scouter's reading was going too fast, then it would overheat to the point that it would explode. The same would probably go to when it goes higher than it can handle.

Either that or I could come up with a BS sci-fi answer. Like the scouter itself has a material that naturally reacts to ki. By measuring the reactions, the scouter is able to come up with a numerical number representing the power level, similar to the PKE-meter in Ghostbusters.Dayspring wrote:Makes sense. In that case, if the ki was powerful enough, the reaction in the material could be violent enough to destroy the scouter.
Like a balloon and something bad happens.

Ha, so me and Herms were both wrong! I must have been thinking of Freeza. Well, if Vegeta's Japanese Wikipedia article is correct about Vegeta's battle power being 250,000 at that point, the new scouters' limit would be around there somewhere. Although, I would personally place Vegeta somewhere closer to 400,000...Dayspring wrote:Actually he crushed it in disbelief. Speaking of scouters... I've been really wanting one lately. Those Dragon Box The Movies scouters were so sexy...!

If that's the case, then where did Goku-Ginyu's scouter come from? Urgh, I hate not being able to check my manga...Dayspring wrote:Actually he crushed it in disbelief. However, Freeza's scouter explodes when reading Vegeta's full strength, and that was the same model Ginyu used.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

Older Model: Radditz, possibly Nappa and Vegeta, Zarbon and some Freeza goons, Kui.
New Model: Dodoria, some Freeza goons.
Newest Model: Ginyu Squad, the ones Ginyu gives to Freeza.
Whatever happened to Nappa's scouter? Was it stolen by Gero well after the fight, or is it still lying around somewhere?

Since you don't remember it, does that mean Bulma making Kuririn take it off his face so she could mess with it was anime filler?Rocketman wrote:Probably still lying around somewhere. You're thinking about Radditz's scouter.

He (Gohan) is weaker. He has the fighting spirit of a wet noodle soaked in water until it barely resembles a noodle. A pebble is tougher than Gohan, because you could conceivably trip on a rock and stub your toe, while Gohan would yield like so much melted pudding. Vanilla pudding. Because he's too pansy-ass to have a strong flavor if he was pudding. Pure water has more flavor than hypothetical Gohan-pudding.

2. Yes, that's anime filler. There's not even a panel of Krillin handing the scouter to Bulma in the manga.
Didn't Bulma ask Krillin to take the scouter off Radditz's head in the manga? And then Krillin replied with "O-ok, he's dead, right?"?Rocketman wrote:1. And also, how could the scouter be in one piece, as Piccolo just cracked Radditz's head open?
I know it was damaged, but that means that the defense power of the scouter lies around the hundreds at least.
No more time for Daizex. Goodbye folks!
Yeah, that panel has him looking at Raditz's face, the next panel is Bulma messing around with the scouter.Wojak wrote:Didn't Bulma ask Krillin to take the scouter off Radditz's head in the manga? And then Krillin replied with "O-ok, he's dead, right?"?

Well sorry if this was already said, but one of Freeza's henchmen said that the scouters were never supposed to go above 150,000(Freeza's first form battle power). So this means that power can't be the reason for exploding, unless your power level is 999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999, etc.
So I'm gonna try to make an example on how scouters explode:
A Saiyajin's battle power is 4,000. A Scouter has spotted the battle power. The battle power quickly rises to 10,000 in less than 5 seconds. The scouter explodes.
So if the numbers are going too fast, then that scouter blows.
