Paragas' class?
Paragas' class?
It's been ages since I last saw movie 8, and I can't get to my (French) Daizenshuu 7 at the moment, so I wonder could anyone tell me if it is explicitly stated (or implied, even) that Paragas is a low-class Saiyajin, or if not, what he is. Thinking about it now, in conjunction with his crappy-looking (and completely out of line with literally every single other example) armour, I would say he was the lowest of the low, but...Any information would be appreciated.

He isn't the lowest of the low; that's Goku and Radditz. However, no mention is made of Paragus' class. My guess is average-to-elite Saiyan.

Re: Paragas' class?
In Toriyama's character design for Broli, he wrote that Broli doesn't wear any version of the battle armor we see all the other Saiyans wearing because those suits were handed out by Freeza, and Broli wasn't working for Freeza. Presumably the same is true of Paragus and why his armor looks different.Cypher wrote:Thinking about it now, in conjunction with his crappy-looking (and completely out of line with literally every single other example) armour,
edit: Daizenshuu 10 similiary notes that Paragus doesn't wear the armor of Freeza's underlings, and says that perhaps this is native Saiyan clothing. Daizenshuu 7's bio of Paragus doesn't say anything about Paragus other than what we get from the movie.

We have to remember that a lot of what is called "Saiyan", such as Saiyan Armour, Saiyan Spacecraft and so on is borne out of the misunderstanding of Kuririn and the others due to their lack of knowledge of galactic affairs.
Determining Paragas' strength is always going to be difficult. All we know for sure is that he couldn't handle a teenage Saiyan who's power level was apparently 10,000 on the day he was born and that this Saiyan, in his LSSj form, could kill him easily. That's a hell of a large range to try and pin down.
If there were some information about Paragas' past, we could guess. For example, if he were sent to a distant planet himself as a baby, we could assume he was low-class indeed. He did get an audience with King Vegeta, which may mean something. I mean, I doubt King Vegeta gave audiences to the parents of everyone he ever planned to kill.
A guess? Sub-Bardock. Probably sub-Nappa.

Damn, I quoted that thing from Daizenshuu 10’s Saiyan relation chart about Paragus’ armor, but I missed this even more relevant part. It’s from the line connecting Paragus and Barduck.
They knew each other?!
Paragus’ class is unknown, but since he was able to talk directly to King Vegeta, he should have had a high social position. Since he said to Goku “Aren’t you’re Barduck’s brat?” it could be thought that he was Barduck’s boss.
[caption to picture of Barduck] Goku’s father Barduck was famous for his bravery even among the Saiyans.

In the movie (dubbed) When Paragus tries to hide Broly's strength he tells Vegeta how Broly couldn't be the legendary saiyan, because he's the son of a weakling basically. He was using his weakness as an excuse, so he's probably low-class.

The original dialog goes that Broli couldn't be the legendary Super Saiyan, because Broli himself was weak (weaker than Paragus, I think it's said).Drunken Master wrote:In the movie (dubbed) When Paragus tries to hide Broly's strength he tells Vegeta how Broly couldn't be the legendary saiyan, because he's the son of a weakling basically. Re: Paragus getting an audience with King Vegeta, I don't necessarily think that had anything to do with class. He probably had a certain amount of cachet by having such a ludicrously powerful son, no matter his station. And even the first time I saw it, in the original Japanese, he always gave off a lower-class vibe to me, for some reason...
Trunks & Goten forever
Yeah, I think the main reason I had a conception of Paragas as a lower-class warrior was the way King Vegeta casually discards him; however, since he'd treat even super-elites the same way I guess that can't be used as a basis for anything. Thanks to everyone who's responded so far, a lot of cool info
