Y'know, thats exactly what I've been thinking. The art on these new boxes if definitely nice. But I hate having a load of dvds squashed into one box. So I think I'm happier with the older boxes.Captain Awesome wrote:I don't know if I should be happy I got the original packaging, they do take up quite a bit of space.
Not to mention the art on the boxes is badly vector traced crap, these look a bit nicer.
Also, even though the art on the boxes of old releases were just screen shots, if nothing else at least they're pretty durable.
Being as I don't need extra R4 DVD laying around, I made a deal with to get R4 volumes 2 and 3 plus the artbox for a grand total of 46 dollars(US). It includes shipping. Now I'm going to need the first and last Dragonball 2 disk sets to having everything.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
wow, those madman menus look nice.
edit- someone linked recently as to somewhere cheaper than the official madman site. Anyone still got that link? international shipping was a bargain there.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
I hate that for the longest time, FUNimation's idea of acquiring art work, consisted of vector tracing images (and always poorly drawn ones) from the anime, and blowing them up on a box.Kid Trunks wrote: Also, even though the art on the boxes of old releases were just screen shots, if nothing else at least they're pretty durable.
As for the Madman menus, they're usually better than the FUNimation ones, we were never subjected to trailers before the menu, or long boring 3d menus, the majority of them are nice, clean and to the point, the ones on the Boo arc dvd's are especially nice, complete with character profiles that occasionally use the Japanese names.

If this counts as bootlegging and thus against board rules, I apologize, and any mod feel free to remove (and I hope you don't throw the ban hammer at me), but I'm curious if anyone could possibly burn me those two discs from volume 1. I'll PayPal the cost of the DVDs and shipping plus a couple bucks extra for the trouble.
Nothing shows up on eBay Australia at the moment, and it seems to be the only place I can get it. I reeeeaaaally don't wanna buy that $100 box set just for 13 episodes.

Uh, yeah..
Asking for someone to burn you a copy of a DVD is bootlegging, no-one is going to help you with that here.
Your best bet is to keep an eye out on Ebay and some Australian auction sites (like Oztion) for the disc, I've seen volumes 2 and 3 around, so you might get lucky, or just sell your current sets and replace them with the boxset.

On EzyDVD they are selling it for AU$90.88 which is about $60 US dollars.
On this site, http://www.devoteddvd.com.au/shop/produ ... s_id=30039 they are selling it for $AU76.32 which is about $50 US dollars.
I'm going to be getting these boxsets myself since I don't have any of the episodes on dvd.

Sorry for reviving this thread, but I wanted to vent some frustration.
I ordered those two box sets from Devoted DVD, thinking I'd just sell my Region 1 DVDs, but then the first box set arrives with the case all cracked to hell, and it contains TWO copies of Collection #1, The Saga of Goku, Disc 1. There is no Disc 2...so my MAIN REASON for ordering the sets--to have the first thirteen episodes--has fallen through, and I'm now missing episodes 7 through 13. How frustrating. And I found out mine is not an isolated case; it's happened to others before.
I emailed Madman about it, even though I didn't buy from them, thinking they could send me Disc 2 since it was their packaging error. Real nice and courteous about it too...and they say they can't do anything, and I have to get a replacement through Devoted.
So I email Devoted, and it's been a week since I sent the email and they haven't said anything.
So I email Madman again just now, stating that even if Devoted ever do reply to my replacement request, I may yet again receive a defective box set with two of the same disc, and inquired again to see if they could do anything for me--like, you know, do something as simple as email me Disc 2 of the first saga since it was their manufacturing/packaging error to begin with.
We'll see how this pans out...but I'm really annoyed about all this, especially since it took so long for the DVDs to arrive at my house.

I am definatly getting the new boxes off madman for christmas, but I'm curious about the old box, can someone post an image or give me a link for a picture of them just to satisfy my curiosity.
Also, has anyone who ordered the sets off of madman had problems with getting the right disc? I am a little nervous now that I heard this.

I did, I ordered from Sanity though since I only have PayPal, and they were very unhelpful.gogeta 00 wrote:Also, has anyone who ordered the sets off of madman had problems with getting the right disc? I am a little nervous now that I heard this.
The version I got had the discs out of order, after putting them in order I noticed that I had two Saga of Goku Disc 1's, and no disc 2. The replacement disc is currently at the Post Office depot in my town, and it's hell walking there, especially in this icey weather, and I have to pay £20 to get it back too, and hopefully Sanity will pay me that back... £20 is completely unreasonable, I'll just do a whole HMV boycott, fuck em, their unreasonable prices and their dumb ass employees. This was the worst shopping experience of my life.
Just one question, here: is the music/audio PAL speed? That's just something that really sticks out to me, and the one thing that's holding me back from getting the set.

I finally went down to the depot to pick up my replacement disc, and they told me how to try and get my money back, and I opened it up to see what was inside, lucky it did have Saga of Goku Disc 2, but it also had disc 2 of the Tournament saga, the Red Ribbon Army Saga, the General Blue Saga, the Commander Red Saga and Fortune Teller Baba Saga.
I think Sanity isn't really to blame now, it's just customs. Some sites I buy from say that they're immune to customs charges, though I'm not sure how it works, especially with America.
I'm thinking it was Sanity, much cheaper there than anywhere else, but they were kind of unhelpful with my replacement disc, and custom charges get added randomly, a Postie told me today.bkev wrote:wow, those madman menus look nice.

Thanks TT, but it turns out it was devoteddvd. Anyway, I'm hoping someone answers my other question regarding video/audio speed.
