Oh well, not that I really cared for it to be real or not. Just wanted to see the expression on my brother's face when I showed it to him.

The above link also leads to that creepy, creepy fishman-Oozaru.
On hiatus.
James Alexander Rose on my forum made a very long and interesting post on this "Oozaru." I think it's worth posting here.

The "Oozaru" or "monster Goku" however you want to call it. Has some of the features, the eyes, the head, and a little of the nostrils. Does it look like a monkey? No, there's not enough features to call it an Ape. Yes, Toriyama based it off Journey to the West/ Monkey King etc.
Now here's how it is, and how I see it. First off, The Moon thing and transformation is a rip off the Werewolf...Toriyama had a lot based on other story's when making Dragonball, especially in DBZ. But he put it in together to make it seem much more Original. And this is how it is, this isn't excuse we use, it's the Truth.. It's an Adaption. Did Toriyama think that DB was going to be a success and then being made into DBZ? No, thats why DBZ has a lot of contradictions to Dragonball.
In DBZ it states Goku is an alien(in this case a Saiyajin), but in Dragonball we didn't know that, we just knew something was freaking wrong with him because he had a tail/were-ape transformations. A Monkey Boy. Piccolo was a Demon created by the bad seeds of Kami, as in his evil desire..Turns out in DBZ he's Namekian. But Piccolo jr was the spawn of King Piccolo whom was a demon, that came from The Namekian Kami ( whom we didn't know was a Namek) So Jr was considered a Demon in DB, hence why he ate and had red blood, opposed to a Namek, yet DBZ contradicts that and makes him an Alien instead of a Demon.
Where I'm getting at is, In order to go into more sequals in these movies you have to make it much more understandable to the General Audience. Making Goku look more Alien-ish than Ape is much more understandable, since in DBZ it states he's an alien. If you were to put the Monkey(Giant Ape) in DB, it'll feel like a rip off the werewolf more than the Alien Looking Goku. Cause if in DBZ he's in Alien, yet a Giant Ape, audiences would be confused. King Kong wasn't an Alien, he was a Huge a** Monkey. So you Add Giant Ape + Moonlight Were-Wolf Effect on a Human = Were-ape King Kong..
Doesn't seem really Alien-ish doesn't it? Now in take the General Audience. We see Goku(in DB movie), a skilled fighter and really strong/fast, then learns how to control Ki/trained by Roshi etc. Then.. bam! we see Goku in an alien/monster form, and then the audience would be stunned, only thinking Piccolo was the Only Alien/Demon or w.e. But it seems Goku is also a monster/weird creature of his own...Builds it Much more suspense, Also leading into DBZ confirming he's an Alien,(although in this movie he's confirmed a saiyan but we don't know if Piccolo mentions if they are Alienated Race).
Now if you just make him a Giant Monkey ( To fans it would be bad ass and true to the story),but the General Audience would feel it's a rip off King Kong/Werewolf, and the movie wouldn't feel unique. I know DRAGONBALL is based of the Monkey King, BUT Toriyama contradicted that with DBZ, saying he was An Alien, even though still known as the Great Ape.. Still an Alien. Which makes the settings weird, saying a Giant Monkey is An alien especially after the General Audience seeing King Kong...
So now making it into the movie series, they have to try to take Away those contradictions.. Due to the Fans the legend of the Super Saiyan was contradicted as well.. Toriyama made the Legend of every 1000 years a Super Saiyan is born,(which is Goku in this case) and wanted to end the story with that(Freeza saga). But due to the Fans, he made the DBZ story go on, contradicting the Super Saiyan Legend, and etc. So in the Case of the Dragonball Adaption, stuff has to be changed for the General Audience, especially for sequels, there cannot be such contradictions..
As for the Pic, i think the Monster Looks scary, YES it looks like a holloween mask you can buy in a story, but CGI must be added.. Obviously it's not finished. Fox isn't stupid enough, or James Wong, (i don't care if you say they are cuz they messed up DB blah blah blah) to put it with that mask/model/prop/w.e only into the movie. If you got the visuals company from 300(which is the same company with DB movie), they got some pretty scary creatures and are very good with CGI. So that is not the finished product, EVEN if it's the final form of the Oozaru/Monster, it's still not done.
And guess what, you're right. This movie isn't Dragonball at all, it's a movie BASED off Dragonball.. Like Dragonball was based off the Monkey King/Journey to the West.. Which means since Goku is confirmed a saiyan in the DB movie, he's an alien. So he doesn't have to be a Giant Were-Ape. Hence no contradictions from DBZ to Dragonball(if sequals are made)....

When Akira Toriyama drew a little manga based on Journey to the West and then changed all the details around... he didn't call the damn thing Journey to the West - The Manga!!

There is no difference between Dragonball and DBZ. The author of this post is misinformed. What he calls "contradictions" are actually revelations about the characters backstory and racial origin. This misunderstanding can be placed on Funimation and Viz with people thinking these are two different yet vaguely connected series.JAPPO wrote:James Alexander Rose on my forum made a very long and interesting post on this "Oozaru." No, thats why DBZ has a lot of contradictions to Dragonball.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.
Except there is. I know it's the same series, but the second half of DragonBall (which most people call DragonBall Z) is more serious, less goofy, more body builders shouting about power levels, less about finding dragon balls and more about fighting villains, the list goes on. While it technically may still be DragonBall, it really is different.Raki wrote:There is no difference between Dragonball and DBZ.

Both the first and second half have folks fighting villians. The Dragonballs play a vital role in Vegeta coming to Earth, the whole Namek Era, part of the Cell arc, and even the Buu arc. Power levels aren't really that relevant in the series anyway.JAPPO wrote:Except there is. Body builders? Not at all!JAPPO wrote:Except there is. I really don't understand people defending the whole Fishzaru thing.
If this is the first part of a trilogy (I don't see that happening) shouldn't this movie be sticking more to Dragonball's mystical origins?, instead of changing a bunch of things because they aren't "pluasible" in the retarded sci-fi universe Fox seem to be trying to build.
They're just gone and thrown out the entire premise for the character of Son Goku, who needs backstory or subtext anyway?

Well, when Akira Toriyama wrote the officially licensed adaptation for Journey to the West, titled Journey to the West - The Manga, which was marketed as such, didn't he do the same thing? You see? It's exactly the same.Captain Awesome wrote:I really don't understand people defending the whole Fishzaru thing.

Since they're using Piccolo as the villain, an older Goku, and introducing concepts of Namekians and Saiyans as aliens in the first one, most people following the film suspect the second and third movies would delve into the Saiyans and Freeza's empire. That's a setting and mood that's distinctly more sci-fi than fantasy, so the first movie would be better off to adhere to that mood from the beginning for consistency's sake. In spite of that, there's still plenty of "mystical" elements in this one though.Captain Awesome wrote:If this is the first part of a trilogy (I don't see that happening) shouldn't this movie be sticking more to Dragonball's mystical origins?, instead of changing a bunch of things because they aren't "pluasible" in the retarded sci-fi universe Fox seem to be trying to build.
Goku is still a Saiyan come to Earth as a baby. He undergoes a alien/monkey-like transformation, likely when exposed to certain lunar activity. He was raised and trained out in the countryside by his Grandpa Gohan. He's kind, strong, optimistic, and chivalrous. His "unpopular" status in the school suggests he's lacking in social skills. Suffice to say his premise has NOT been "thrown out," if anything it's just tweaked a bit. They're just gone and thrown out the entire premise for the character of Son Goku, who needs backstory or subtext anyway?
We learn about his Saiyan origins in the first movie, and we learn that in this first movie, and we can only assume it will be further expounded upon if/when other Saiyans enter the picture in the sequels.

General audience that didn't get into Dragon Ball are going to look at this movie, see a ridiculously stupid movie that isn't even on the same level as B-Movies and wonder what the hell is wrong with fans of the series. Why? Because they're going to end up thinking that's what's actually in the series. You're bound to get a FEW who're gonna be interested who then check out the source material and notice a HUUUUGE difference.Where I'm getting at is, In order to go into more sequals in these movies you have to make it much more understandable to the General Audience.
Even fans didn't get why Goku transformed until Toriyama came up with the idea of making Goku an alien. The original intent was to just make Goku as a weird kid with a tail who transforms into a beast during a full moon. We went with it. There wasn't anything deep or scientific to understand.
Then again, they only further mix things up by making Goku transform while he's an adult. I honestly would have preferred a kid than someone who looks like he's ready to graduate high school. Even though Goku's close to of age in the manga, he still looked like a little squirt.

Actually, in most cases I've seen people are put off by the irreverent goofiness of the original manga's world, and other manga like it. Especially a lot of "mainstream" anime fans who prefer more "hardcore" or "realistic" series. As far as non-fans go, a somewhat more realistic, serious, scif-fi tone for a movie would probably be a better, softer blow of an introduction into the franchise.
