Well, I can understand why Funi chose a different font style for Movie 5. The usual Double feature font would've looked awkward because Movie 5 has a title card animation where the letters sort of fly to the screen, and that font style probably wouldn't have worked.

Oh, and how can you capture videos from DVD's? I want to post a few clips from these.

They should have just kep the Japanese title cards.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Well, they dropped alternate angles due to complaints. Now, tell me, how much sense would it make to use title cards in Japanese for a US release?

Yep, they could have put the English title at the bottom. The average DeeBeeZee fan who saw this movie on Toonami don't care if it's translated right.

Oddly enough, I very much doubt alternate angles was actually a complaint and more of a "CRAP! THEY FOUND OUT! QUICK, THINK OF AN EXCUSE!" move.

Also, I use AoA DVD Ripper to rip clips from my DVDs. The trial only allows up to 10 minutes to be snipped, but it's good enough for just what you need.

Look up and download a program called "DVD Decrypter." Rips the raw, high-quality VOBs themselves straight off the discs.

Um, guys, I just posted a mini-tutorial about correct resizing and suggested several DVD decrypting programs.

The fact of the matter is, you can not do a fair comparison between screenshots unless they are processed exactly the same way. In this post, we have one image at 800×450 pixels, and another at 853×480. Neither of these is the correct size, but even if they were, they would both need to have the same dimensions in order to be comparable. Then we have another one at 886×487, which is also incorrect for this output (it would be almost correct—1 pixel too tall—for a square-pixel D1 equivalent, but that’s not what we’re trying to do here).
jjgp1112 wrote:I had to do a lot of resizing to the Remastered pic, so that probably explains why it looks so blurry.
There is no reason you should have to do any more than one resize for each picture. The Dragon Box and Double Feature shots should both be 875×480. The Single should be 656×480. All 480 pixels tall; no upscaling (which introduced the blur) required. Then make your divisions: to have it equally distributed, crop two of them to 292 pixels wide (I’d probably go with the parts on either end) and one of them to 291.

Additionally, do not save it as a JPEG! This is a lossy image format and creates compression artifacts unless you increase the quality factor (and thus file size). Save as PNG. It creates small, lossless images.
SSj Kaboom wrote:I thought so, I knew that didn't look like the original screencap. Might be worth a do-over.
I could do it if no one else wants to, provided I had an unaltered screenshot from each source.

I recommend VirtualDubMod.

I just wanted to get a few opinions from the people here that watch this thing we call Dragonball in Japanese.

Assuming that you can actually sit through an entire movie in English without vomiting ( Cap and Kunzait you can sit this one out if you'd like  ) what do you think of the English version's BGM.

Do you think it's really bad and makes it feel like a 45 minute AMV or do you think it was actually well placed when used? Somewhere in between?

Are you talking about movie 5? If you are then I feel like every song they used from Goku turning Super Saiyan to the credits fit the animation well.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Yeah I'm talking about movie 5, or the first Cooler movie, I can't seem to remember the numbers right now

I'm going to go with

"it was actually well placed when used, and it makes it feel like a 45 minute AMV."

I just watched movie 5 in English for the first time a few hours ago. I was so turned off by Lord Slug when it debuted that I've been avoiding the English movies for years. The one problem I have with the dub music is that songs with vocals don't mix well with dialogue, period. It would have been great if they had just mixed out the vocals and pumped up the music volume a little.

Sauza's voice sucks. (This gets its own paragraph.)

Has anyone tried ripping the dialogue track from the 5.1 audio? Is all of the dialogue on the same track? I'd love to do my own score for a movie (probably 7 or 9).

Also, another thing about the dub music's audio mix this time around: Most of the songs play earlier than they did originally. The scene ruined the most by this is probably the scene where Cooler attacks Piccolo. In the original version, the opening guitar riff played right when Piccolo got shot by Cooler's death beam, but this time, it plays when Cooler says, "Sauza, leave it to me!". I liked it better originally, because it was one of those, "Shit just got real!" moments.

I just picked up the set yesterday, and watched 5 last night (6 tonight). Movie 5 with the Japanese BGM really felt out of place. Sonny Strait should have redubbed Bardock's opening lines in the beginning. While it worked with the Drowning Pool song in the background, when it's just him talking, it didn't come out so well.

I have high hopes for Return of Cooler tonight. I haven't seen it in years, but I remember the dub being pretty accurate and well-done overall. I also think it was one of the few times Mark Menza's music was actually pretty good, though I intend to watch it with the Japanese music. Personally, I can't wait for movies 12 and 13; beyond a terrible moment in 13 that I won't bring up again (it's not Dragon Fire...), both of those movies were really well done by DBZ standards.

Wow, that Double Feature actually looks close to the Dragon Box version.
