I know, I know! I'm being swayed left and right by the shiny Budokai 3 enhancement at the moment! ;_;

I'm sure if I would just pop in Super DragonBall Z for a couple minutes, again, I'd totally start ranting like a lunatic back in that direction.

I loved this episode... it's video games everywhere

You know... my first game of the trilogy was Buu's Fury, then I got Legacy of Goku II, and then I got Legacy of Goku ((from the 2 in 1 game))

And like you... I hated the first one, for two main reasons:

1- You only play as Goku, while the majority of the battles were done by other characters, I wished that I could play as: Gohan, Piccolo, Kuririn and Vegeta. :x

2- The special attacks are lame. The Kamehameha should've been like the next two games, and lernt from the start. Kaio-sama should've teach Goku the Kaioken instead of the Kamehameha. The Taioken was lame. :x

And like you... I hated that they didn't add Makafushigi Adventure theme to Dragon Ball Origins, and I'm quite confused that you used the American opening instead.

and as a quick info: The Europian version of Advance Adventure used the Japanese voices for the entire game<<< That's right- I got the Europian version of the game and I've unlocked everything and all the characters.
It was my first Game Boy Advanced game.

As for Infinite world, even though I really want to have it... I'll wait patently for the Japanese and/or the Europian versions because of possible extras they might add like they did to Budokai 2, 3 and Sparking NEO.

Next week is the Manga review, YAY!!

and Mike... please point your gun to Meri's head and MAKE her do the top 5 panels... or I'll post mine like last time.

speaking of which... If Mari still needs ideas for her segment, you can show her my topic. http://db.schuby.org/daizex/viewtopic.php?t=8783

I think one of Advance Adventure's major problems with regards to general-population-love is how freakin' long it took to come out in the US. It came out in Japan back in November 2004 (right before the DS came out), but we didn't get it until June 2006 (long after the DS had already been out)... and it was near-impossible for me to find it in stores for about two weeks (why I didn't just order it online, I'll never know). And yeah, the European version got the Japanese voices (not to mention a much more speedy release), while we had the FUNimation voices shoved in with no choice (similar to all of the other Nintendo-based handheld games we've gotten). I'm really hoping to be able to get back to it someday and just start it over and absolutely love it to death (like I was when I was playing it).

I've never actually played the first Legacy of Goku, but I hear it's pretty terrible... which is why I think the second game benefits so much, since your expectations had been set so low from before.

With regards to using the American Origins intro music in the podcast... well, I'm reviewing the American release of the game, so I figured I'd use the American music. *shrugs*

We'll try and remember to do top five panels... ^^;;

Advance Adventures is probably my personal top DB game of all time, though I lot of that has to do with personal reasons. For instance, I ordered the game when it first came out in Japan, and then brought it with me to the summer school program where I first learned Japanese (by accident, as it were), so its cutscenes were the first non-textbook Japanese I ever struggled through. I still remember learning all the weird stuff about how DB characters talk. Fun times. And then there was the night I spent gathering the dragonballs and character portraits in extra mode so that I could play as all the different characters, and doing all this with 12 Monkeys playing on TV in the background, seemingly on infinite loop (which I guess is appropriate). And then there was the time I tried to come up with a new story for the game by redefining who all the characters were (kind of a long story, but I was stuck on a long plane flight and somehow I hit upon doing that).

But apart from all that, I've just never grown tired of the game, no matter how many times I play through it. Goku's move set and sprite animation is just so perfect, it feels like you're actually controlling Goku more so than in any other DB game I've played. And being able to play as practically every character really ups the replay value. I love fighting as the Battle Jacket robot against the Pilaf Machine, or going around as the tiny RR flying mech and trying to snipe bosses to death. Or just playing as Piccolo Daimao, something far too few games let you do (and Cyborg Tao Pai Pai is in there too!). I love his victory laugh in this game (Mhahahahaha!); whenever I do an evil laugh in any of my posts, that's the laugh I'm thinking of.

For my other top DB games, there's Supersonic Warriors. That's another one where I've just never grown tired of playing it no matter what, and I love the "what-if" stories. Then there's Buu's Fury, which I'd rank above LoG II because I like all the extra stuff like Fusion, SSJ3, equipment, not to mention infinitly better character avatars (or whatever you call their dialouge faces). After that it'd probably be Budokai 3. And finally, there's Mario Tennis:Power Tour for the GBA, which I swear is actually a DB game at heart.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?
Sometimes, I tweet things
We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

Mike don't feel bad, it took me 7 tries to beat the last Freeza battle on normal. And yes, he kept spamming the ultimate attack on me too.

This game is definitely way harder than Budokai 3.

Ah, another video game review episode. As I'm sure I've brought up before, I'm not that big on video games, but just hearing you guys talk about the series is good enough for me. If anything, I'm more of a handheld gamer. But with that said, I've really gotta catch up and pick up LoGII and Advance Adventure. The only DB-related games I have are Jump Ultimate Stars and that one GBC game (Legendary Super Warriors, I think). Playing those games'll definitely be a new experience for me gaming-wise.

I was surprised you guys didn't link to the Ultimate Uncut Feature on the site. It covers a bit of what you were saying in response to that one email.

As for the other email about the Boo Saga, I'm probably one of the few American fans that got into the series starting at the Saiyaman/"Other World Tournament" stuff, so I guess I'm a bit biased in that sense. As I watched that Saga as it aired on Toonami, I also backtracked and went through synopses of past events in the series online to get a general picture on things. I've gotta say that after reading through things like the Cell Saga with stuff like time travel and it being a big deal to ascend the SSJ state, I can clearly understand why some would prefer the pre-Boo stuff over the Boo stuff. I personally don't care that much either way. In general, I just don't think in terms of X Saga has to be better than Y Saga. They've all got the same general feel to me, an' that's all that matters (sidenote: which is why I'm not too keen on GT).

I too love the Buu Saga. I would place it above some of the other Sagas - particularly the Freezer Goku fight that went for like 400 episodes...

You guys also mentioned the Goku Vs Vegeta Voice actor vid. This was released in Australia as an extra on one of the GT DVD releases (from memory). :D

Great podcast as usual.

This game is definitely way harder than Budokai 3.
I had the same problem. It took me a while to beat Chibi Buu also, and I still have to face Li Shenlong as well.

It's kind of weird how you have to earn the characters in the game as well. The tournament mode would've helped a lot with that...

Regarding the Buu Arc, I think it's a pretty good arc. Sure, it seems to drag at parts, but one thing this arc has is emotional moments, including Goten meeting Goku for the first time to Majin Vegeta's heroic sacrifice. Plus, some of the humor is pretty good too IMO.

Great overall episode Mike.

As far as the Buu Saga, I tend to enjoy only parts of it (As a whole I much prefer the Android Saga). It went from very serious to silly/serious, and for me, the way Toriyama wrote it was not a good mix. Some was, (such as Goku's suggestion of a picture to Old Kaio), but what really turned me away from that saga was Gotenks's personality. I could not stand his arrogance and stupidity (Though some of it was ok).

As far as the games, I agree that LOG II was definetly one of the best games about Dragonball Z. Legacy of Goku I was not a good game, and III overdid some stuff and underdelivered on others. As I have not played any of the other games, I have no opinion.

Here is my own list of Top 5 DB Games.

5).Dragonball GT Transformation
4).Dragonball Z Harukanaru Densetsu
3).Dragonball Z Budokai Tenkaichi 2/3
2).Dragonball Z The Legacy Of Goku II
1).Dragonball Z Legendary Super Warriors

Wow, this was such a refreshing episode! I have some much to say, as I glee in my Vegetto EX fan-boyness.

So, when you guys began talking about Infinite World, I was so glad that Mike said the game was for people without a PS3. That is exactly how I feel since I don't have one!
Infinite World as a game sounds good! No dragon rush! Thank god! When the computer starts to lose, it always resorts to go into the Dragon Mode (Especially on very hard!) But the whole thing with adding stat points through out the game sounds really discouraging, as I wonder whether or not I will buy this game. The same goes for the Sparking series. I hate that.
I'll touch on this point again, in a bit.

Dragonball DS. I'm right there with you Mike. Bulma has died on me once as well. It's a later level where you have to fight some Triceratops. I also closed the game after losing.
Oh, later on, beware of the levels involving Yamcha! They can be frustrating!

The top five! Thanks Mike for picking Legacy of Goku Two! I really love that game, and just have so much nostalgia for it. So my list:
1. Budokai 3
This game is almost perfect. Aside the dragon rush, I love this game. Unlike the Sparking, the game play is easy. You get what you need along the game to beat it.
2. Legacy of Goku Two
Flawless! But I think Budokai 3 was a bit better.
3. Sparking Meteor
Fun to play with friends, but I hate going through the game. It does have Future Gohan, so it gets some props!
4. Bukuu Rasen
It's got Neko Majin in it and it's a nice pick-up/anytime game.
5. Budokai
The first DBZ game I ever owned! So, I have a soft spot for it.

Sorry for writing so much, but I had a lot to say! :)
Gohan: "You're a Buddhist." Kuririn: "A hungry Buddhist!"

Hey board,

Sweet lord, those figures are AWESOME. After following all links, I can't think of a single one I don't want (well... maybe Gogeta... GT and all). I'm pretty sure they will all end up being the best kind of x-mas present - the ones you get for yourself!

Next topic, I was almost with you guys on the best DBZ games. Almost. Personally, I would have gone Super DBZ as number 1 and Budokai 2 (better song) as number 2.

Also, Jump Ultimate Stars was awesome, but the gem farming and shop system were lame. Jump Super Stars method for unlocking (the koma matching) was much more entertaining, and at times was more fun than the fighting itself. The matches were only trial-and-error because I don't speak Japanese, but it was still awesome.

Lastly, since I sent a letter a few months ago promising some pics of my finished DBZ sleeve, here are some links to the pics:

One more thing - I'm currently working on an IGN exclusive FAQ for Dragon Ball: Origins. I'll post a link when it is finished.

Great show again guys!

since everybody is doing his own top 5 games, here's mine:

5- DBZ Bukuu Rasen
fun gameplay + what-ifs, I call it a miniture Sparking game.

4- DBZ Sparking NEO
the sequel is a big improvement compared to the first one. ((when I get METEOR, maybe I'll replace it))

3-DBZ Buu's Fury
My first of the trilogy. ANd I find it the best of all.

2- Dragon Ball Advance Adventure
It's so rare to find a DB game as good as this. I liked everything about it and I still playing it. Get the Europian version ((Same box cover as the Japanese, Japanese voices, Same title))

1- DBZ Budokai 3
Nothing to say... The best fighting game I've ever played so far.

And my top 5 worst games:

5- Dragon Ball DS
only because the controls are kinda wacky.

4- DBZ Ultimate Battle 22 (PS)
I couldn't figure out how to play it.

3-DBZ Legacy of Goku
read my above comment.

2- DBGT Transformations
A sequel to good game, bad gameplay.

1- DBZ Taiketsu
A blazing pile of crap.

Oh, and I forgot to ask: What's the next DBZABC?

Yeah, I would've put Super at the absolute top, but I also enjoyed all three of the Budoukai's for what they were as well.

S'odd too, I specifically remember all the way back in MIDDLE SCHOOL even, older kids who otherwise would think Dragonball is "gay" would say that they ONLY liked the Buu arc actually, otherwise they didn't like anything else. I myself liked the Buu arc as much as anything else, even though it was drastically different from any of the other arcs in Z.

I've only played the first Legacy of Goku, and I've meant to get the others. Despite some faults, I really actually enjoyed Legacy of Goku. There's a really cool puzzle on Planet Namek that makes me think of Adventure games, though...so I may be biased in that regard. Are there Adventure-like puzzles in 2 and Buu's Fury?

Oh no. Now I have a sudden urge for playing Legacy of Goku II again. Now if only I could remember where I had it last. I too loved this game because it took place in the Cell arc. I just have a distinct memory of enjoying II more than Buu's Fury. I think Future Trunks being my favorite character to play as in a video game also swayed that decision.

I too found the part of the intro of Infinite World in which Goku rubs the dragonball on his face very wierd. That's one of the reasons why I made it my new avatar. I also chose it as my new avatar because it just reminds me of when Goku did that as a kid. To me it looks cute as a still shot rather than in motion :D

Budokai 3 is definitely my favorite Dragonball game at the moment too. Burst Limit just didn't do it for me. I mean, you can't just improve the graphics and expect it to be a better game. What I really want to play is Legends though. I always hear about it, and it sounds amazing!

Oop... I forgot my take on the Buu arc in my previous post.

Personally, I really like it. I do have a few main complaints with it, though:

1. On the show, the filler material is absolutely awful. Dabura picking flowers with Bulma and Chi-Chi? How stupid was that? (Answer: Extremely stupid). No, this scene wasn't in the manga, but I saw the show first and it always bugged me. I can't say for sure if it counts as Buu arc, but the otherworld tournament was pretty dumb as well.

2. How many Buus did we really need? Too much absorbtion, too many different forms... it got very exhausting toward the end. Maybe I'd like all the transformations more is I liked any of the Buus besides fat and kid, but whatever.

3. The transformations and plot CONSTANTLY set up new rules, and said rules were broken almost immediately, providing at least five inconsistancies. Vegito can move and fight as a malted milk ball? Not to mention the split of the supposedly unsplittable Potara fusion... I personally hate it when stuff breaks its own rules for convenience's sake. (See also; both Cooler movies, Tree of Might - Freeza's never-mentioned brother and a Saiyan that wan't killed in Planet Vegeta's destrucution, despite repeated assurances that Raditz, Vegeta, Nappa and Goku were the only ones).

4. I really hated that Piccolo, once a fearsome warrior, was backpedaled to being a baby-sitter who's only purpose is comic relief. Ugh.

The high points have already been covered by others, so I'll just add this one in the positive column:

1. The Videl/Spopovitch fight and the Vegeta/Kid Buu fight are two of the most brutal in the series. The scene with Buu holding Vegeta by the hair and exploding a blast directly in his face is still one of my favorites.

I like the arc a lot, despite my many complaints. It certainly isn't the best in the series (that goes to Garlic Jr. - just kidding), but it had its moments - namely the two fights I just mentioned, SSJ 3 Goku, Gotenks' bizarro attacks and Majin Vegeta.

Oh well, thats just my opinion.
