You know, Vegetto EX made the same mistake when going over the movies... "Why isn't Uub in this event that took place during his infancy?".
... *confused* :?

"There are no other Saiyans!" seals this one for me. :P

See!? See how stupid it was for Vegeta to be like "Oh yeah, hi bro. Sup?" lol.

It's canon. It's touted as "Dragon Ball" not Z... it's for Shonen Jump's anniversary and it was thunk up by Toriyama. It's basically like him making this as a bonus addition to the manga, an extension if you will, but to make it more interesting they've made it an animated special.

It's at least 95% canon versus your typical dbz movie or even DBGT. At least thaz mah opinion haha.

Have we forgotten how nationalistic and arrogant Vegeta once was? To consider himself without a brother is hardly against his piror nature, remember how he dismissed his father?

He was counting Gohan as a Saiyan.

Well, Gohan could fight. Who knows, having a pure-blood Saiyan of royalty unable to fight must be even more insulting and an infidel half-breed.

Y'ask me, this entire new special has been one big message of "F*** canon, let's just have fun!" Let's take a look at some of the bigger "plot holes" that I noticed...
  • - Earth's population still remembers Buu (yet Mr. Buu himself is right out in the open at the banquet!)

    - It's been two years, but it seems Goten and Trunks haven't aged at all. They actually look a bit younger than in the Buu arc to me, but that may be mostly due to the animation style.

    - 18's sensing ki. Only KIND of a plothole; just because it's not one of her built-in functions, nothing really suggests she couldn't just learn to do it the good ol'-fashioned way.

    - Piccolo eating. Then again, I always figured it wasn't that Namekians can't eat, just that they don't need to.

    - Tarble himself. Vegeta's little brother outta nowhere. First off, like Rocketman said, Vegeta claimed there were no other Saiyans around (then again, he forgot Paragus, and Broly, and Tullece...).

But how and when was he born? Since Vegeta said the King, specifically, sent him away to a remote star because of his low battle power, that means Tarble was born while King Vegeta was still around, before he and the rest were killed by Freeza. So he can't be any more than a few years younger than Vegeta.

So how does Tarble appear so drastically younger? Was he in stasis? Does he have some sort of pituitary gland problem? Is Grey some sort of mystic being keeping him young a-la Zefram Cochrane and "The Companion?" The universe may never know...

    - And lastly, if you wanna delve into power comparisons, there's the matter of Goku succeeding where Gotenks failed.

So what should this all suggest? That Mr. Toriyama and Toei don't sweat over the details of canon. So why should we? :P

It can fit in canon even better than the actual movies.

Who knows what the Z gang did in between the defeat of Buu and the coming of Uub? Goku and Vegeta wearing their old clothes again? They could have just decided one day to put them back on. :P

Amen to that I could not have said it better myself.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

Eh, Gohan and Goku both had poorly depicted aging. Trunks and Goten just joined the group ;p

I'd just say he's like Kuririn: Really, really short for a grown man.

Goku was taking things seriously (comparatively) whereas Gotenks was just messing around as usual.

People want to over analyze. I agree though, the special was meant to be fun and a big wet kiss to fans. Personally, I loved it and I hope they make more in the future.

Exactly, I love canon as next as the next person but this was just a boat load of nostalgia and greatness. From the opening to the ending it was all about having a good time and seeing your favorite heroes kicking ass and taking names. This was really just a piece of sweet candy not a full course meal that you should review.

I take this new special as a great addition to the regular storyline. I'm amazed that Toriyama even came back to do this.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

My thoughts exactly. That's one thing that bothers me about the Dragonball fandom in that everyone seems obsessed with figuring out what is/is not canon. Is it really so hard to just enjoy something without worrying about if/where it can fit into the canon? Maybe some people are just doing it for fun, but is seems like a lot of people consider such things "serious business" that MUST be resolved before they can accept a movie or special as being relevant. Movies and specials are just fun side entertainment, so just enjoy them for what they are!

If people are going to accept the general stupidity of these contradictions and additions to the anime, why not accept the slight changes in the live-action movie.

Sorry, but I couldn't enjoy this special because of the OBVIOUS contradictions and stupid addition of Vegeta's brother and his wife.

I don't particularly care if it's "canon", it's Dragon Ball.

Little "errors" of continuity factor all over the place. Sometimes, people look at these things with a bit too much thought.
