Only two times really...

First one being Vegeta's first death, he kinda grew on me during the Namek/Freeza arcs...

Second time also being Vegeta right before his suicide talking to Trunks and Piccolo.

Like others, Dragonball hasn't really seemed like the type of show where I'd be all emotional about. However, the montage at the end of DBGT was the most emotional I've gotten over the series. I actually like both the dub and the originals of this. They both do things right, Dan Dan playing in the back while the clips ran really got me feeling nostalgic. Then, when Goku lept up, flew away and "THE END" popped up. That did me in.

The dub also did this scene pretty well, in my opinion. Granted, I would have preffered to not have the dialogue in the montage. The music was really good, though, and having Goku say "See you later!"(or something like that) was really great.

1) Z Warriors being killed by Nappa.
2) Goku saying he will stay dead(music in the Japanese version helped to fit the sad mood).
3) Goku returning and meeting Goten for the first time.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Both of Vegeta's deaths got me crying (what can I say, I'm a hopeless fangirl  ) The first one was just so moving, seeing a tough guy like him cry and plead with Gokuu to defeat Freeza when he was on the brink of death. As for the second death, him hugging Trunks for the first time, saying how he's doing it for his family, and then sacrificing himself to try to save everyone....it just shows how far he'd come by that point. Bulma's reaction to his death was also heartbreaking (even in the dub....I'll never forget that Toonami promo with her screaming "NOOOOO!!").

Other moments include when Gokuu met Goten for the first time. Even though I'm not really a fan of the Son family, for whatever reason, that moment gets to me. Also, when Gokuu is throwing his Genki Dama at Kid Buu. Everyone on Earth coming together to help out, all of Gokuu's friends yelling encouragement, and the music (one of my favorite pieces in all of the anime), it all combines to create a magical moment.

Wouldn't "sacrifice" be a better word in this matter? Suicide sounds so...dark.

The main four that comes to mind are:

1) Freeza torturing Vegeta before his death, and then Vegeta revealing his dreadful past revealing it was Freeza's doing.

2) Trunks getting shot by Cell devastating Vegeta causing him to avenenge his son.

3) Vegeta sacrificng himself, and beforehand his final goodbye to his son.

4) The ending of GT... Yes it sucked, but I actually cried because I thought this was the end... The end of my precious Dragonball Z  - I was wrong!!! (New special! :o )
"Ok, use your instincts Kakarott. Right or Left? (Hmmm... I'd have to say... left.) Good. Then I'm going right!" (Vegeta to Goku as they try to find their way to free the others inside Buu - Episode: The Innards of Buu)

The dub didn't do that.

In fact, the dub's BGM droned on with a "serious" tone, as well as having the narrator give a completely different feeling speech at the end. Not only this, but they made EVERYONE talk in the recap scenes, even though there was no dialogue. Regarding the narrator, look how different they are between both versions.

Japanese: Because of you, Goku, it has been fun. Goofy and cheerful... and gentle... That's the Goku we all loved. This is where the story of Dragon Ball ends.

English: With the Earth finally at peace...Goku, the savior of the planet, takes his leave to await the day he is needed once again. He was always friendly, and cheerful. A true gentleman and a loving father. And now we end the story of the Dragon Balls. With the hope that the Earth will never again see the kind of darkness that brought it close to extinction so many time. But if that day comes, there is one who will step out of the shadows and will fight in the name of all that is good and true.

See how they just...totally dropped the ball on the ending?

Other than the end of the series (Goku leaving with Uub), the moment that really nailed me when I first saw it was Gohan's SSJ2 transformation. The amazing BGM, 16 getting crushed, and the snowball of emotions from what's come before... Goku putting Gohan up to fight with no regard, Piccolo's anger on the subject, etc.

Sooooo good.

Yeah, I was wondering if they were even talking about the same Son Goku.

I know they didn't do that.

I actually kind of liked the song they played during the montage. Well, just the very beginning and the very end. I didn't like how they put dialogue into the montage, but I didn't mind what the narrorator said in the dub.

I like some of the dub dialogue, especially the part I put in bold. I dunno, it just gives me a feeling that this isn't the absolute end. It just gives me this "goose-bumpy" feeling.

Don't get me wrong, I love the original, too. Like I said earlier, they both do things that I like.

I think that the English script there is pretty good. Although they should have cut to the chase quicker.

I really don't like that part particularly because it just keeps pushing the idea that Goku's some sort of superhero who comes to save the day. Goku has never done such a thing, as pretty much every enemy has had some sort of involvement with him or his friends. So it's generally been he goes to them (like the Red Ribbon Army) or they come to him (...like the Red Ribbon Army).

All that was missing was for Goku to say "Up, up...and away!" :?

It detracts from the whole "This is the Goku we loved. He was goofy, gentle and kind. And this is the end of Dragon Ball's story." We're supposed to feel sad at this point because it's the end of a story that has been going on for more than 10 years (at the time). It gives us a sense of "we had some great times together, but sadly, we must part ways." The dub however...just somewhat gets there, but misses entirely on who Son Goku really is. He's not a superhero fighting for truth and justice. Leave that to Superman...or Supaman.

I've seen the last episode of GT about 5 times, with either the FUNi Dub, Japanese Audio, or the Blue Water Dub, each time I've cried. It's over, it's really over. DAN DAN makes it worse (in terms of me crying more)...

Uh yeah he is, just 'cause he doesn't wear a cape and tights doesn't mean he's not a super hero.

Once again.

In other words, he's not the stereotypical, generic superhero fighting for all that is good.
