Dragonball Holiday Memories

Post by Gogeta 00 » Thu Dec 11, 2008 10:19 pm

Its that time of year again, and in two weeks from now millions of children everywhere will be waiting up all night for Santa. I think we have all had some nice holiday memories involving Dragonball, so what are your fondest Dragonball Christmas memories. My favourite holiday memory of dragonball would have to be christmas 2000. The one present that I wanted most was the first DBZ movie, and of course after opening all my presents, it was no where to be seen. But then,my mom pulled out a present from the closet and said "hmm...santa must have forgot this one". Immediatley I grabed it and tore off the paper. My heart sank into my stomach, it was a doll, I was thinking what the fuck? Then mom told me to take it out of the box. I did and looked in the bottom of the box and saw another present, I opened it up and there it was.Later that day, my older brother, who is a huge fan of the Japanese version, was trying to sing Cha-La-Head-Cha-La in the shower. I grabed my tape recorder and recorded the whole, pathetic japanese singing of a kid who didn't speak a lick of japanese. It was hilarious. Everytime one of his friends came over I would embarass him by playing it in front of them.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.

(And yes I got the idea for this topic from last years Christmas podcast)

It was the year Budokai came out, and I had just recently been given a PS2. All of the commercials hyping Budokai had gotten me really excited, and so whenever it came on I would remind my parents. Christmas finally came, and I was frantically searching for any thin present that could possibly be Budokai. I opened up all of the presents with my name on it, and none of them were it.
My aunt then asked me if I was happy with what I got, and I said yes, but it was obvious that I was upset. She then told me to give her a hug, and than was when she placed a thin present into my hands.
You guys can tell what happened from there on.

My foundest memories must be when me and my brother came to France and DBZ was on TV! We'd watch it every day on TV, two episodes a day :) What splending memories :)

When I got the only 3 Dragon Ball Z movies released on DVD in the UK, I was ecstatic that they even existed, and kinda pissed that I couldn't find the other movies. And oh yes, these were the AB Groupe releases. I was... pissed... I knew I was getting them and I was expecting to watch the Ocean Dub and the Japanese.

It was a huge disappointment.

This year I'm getting the Dragon Ball collections from Australia, and even though I've watched a few of the discs to test it and had that whole ordeal with Sanity, It's gonna be my best present, though because of money troubles I'm not getting much else. I'm also getting a Red Scouter though!

So, this year will be my best Christmas for Dragon Ball.

Definitely, without a doubt, the Christmas year when Dragonball Z Budokai 1 came out. That was an awesome Christmas!

I also feel Budokai 1 was the game which really made me respect the Japanese voices more (in the UK, our Budokai 1 release had Japanese voices).

It was also around this time when CNX came around and they were airing the fusion saga.

Well I'm kinda spoiled.....

It was a 'surprise present'. I just got I think a CD, a book and a DVD, much less than I usually get. But then out came a huge present.....

I was in 7th grade and I was just getting into anime. I was a pretty big Pokemon fan and watched DBZ every now and then but I wasn't someone who would go write on a forum about some cartoon. I really wanted the first VHS of the Pokemon TV series, and I had also decided to put "Dragonball Z movie" as another gift. I didn't rate it as high on the list.

Anyway, I suspect my parents found both of them in the store and when looking at them thought DBZ was a little more manly.

Christmas morning, low and behold there was one gift left that was obviously a VHS. I opened it thinking that it would be Pokemon and my heart sank. It was Tree Of Might. A bit disappointed I put the movie in the TV and watched it. It was the Pioneer dub (the only one at the time) with original music, Cha-La opening (that blew my mind that it was in Japanese) and cursing.

I have never looked back since that day. I love Dragonball. :)

I played Budokai (the first one) pretty much all day one christmas. Looking back it wasn't a good game at all.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

Well.... I've never really gotten many Dragon Ball things at Christmas. I got a few GT figurines a couple of years ago, but that's about it.

But this Christmas I bought a bunch of stuff for myself, while working with the fact I need money for presents. So far, so good. :D Does that count?

I got an animation cel back in '98. Not to mention other smaller Dragonball-related gifts here and there. The most noteworthy is definitely the cel.

For me it was Christmas '98 or '99. I can't remember. Anyway, that year I recieved a ton Dragon Ball VHS tapes (all of the first arc and the first movie) and the first volume of Pioneer's DBZ dub, Arrival. I remember being so excited. :)

This Christmas could be qualified as a good candidate for a fond DBZ Christmas. Going to get the newest orange brick, as well as the green brick. :?

Ah, Christmas 2002, one of my older brothers got me Budokai 2, which was $50.00, and my brothers only got $25.00 gifts. I liked getting Budokai 2, the brother that got the game for me, played it too. He also said because I have Diabetes, I get a better present, which was awesome. Thank god for my Diabetes, for once.

I got one or two graphic novels (French version was still in its first run) from the Android or Cell sagas back in 1999 or 2000.

"Kinda" spoiled? I'd say extremely spoiled, but that's off topic.

Seriously. What entails full-on spoiled? Having them in the passenger seat of a Porsche? :P

If you mean "holiday" as in "christmas present", I must say the present I've gotten from someone else that is Dragonball related probably is when I got a bunch of french DBZ dub tapes, that I had chosen out myself. Got them from grandma :D Apart that, I've bought all Dragonball related pretty much myself, except a few manga volumes here and there (of one of the many weird Glenat releases).
