New Fruits, Vegetables Ect, Name Puns
What are some good puns on fruits and vegetables among other things that Toriyama has not used in Dragonball for the names of his characters?
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

"Bana" sounds good I also like the names “Appel" and "Oranje” from which I stole from the Smashing Pumpkins, it was the name of one of their songs on the album Adore.B wrote:Bana?
Grap?
Forget Grap, it sucks. But Bana sounds decent and I don't think it's been used.
Where are all my fellow fan fiction writers when I need them?

Some of Freeza's henchmen have taken the fruit puns already, SP - for instance, apple and orange, you mention, have already been used by Appule and Oran.
I made a list a loooooong time ago when me and a friend were making a Doujinshi and were thinking of names for new Saiyajin using vegetables that hadn't been used within the series. I'll see if I can find it for you, but off the top of my head some of the ones we came up with were Tanip (turnip), Cerely (celery), Kron (corn), Quash (squash), etc...
I ended up using Cumber (spelling changed to Kanba; from cucumber), Nizucchi (spelling changed to Nizuki; from zucchini), and N'yan (from onion, before Onio of NMZ came about) for my fic, IGNO, but if I find that old list (which I do know I still have somewhere) I don't mind sharing any of the others.
As for fruit puns...ever played Pokemon Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald? Look at some of the berries, because they've got some Toriyama-esque fruit puns going on that could give you some ideas.

Some of the video games came up with a couple names on their own.
As an example, here's the names of the new Freeza henchmen introduced in DBZ2 for the NES. I don't get all the puns for their names, so they're all direct romanizations:
Ronme ("Lonme", from melon)
Kuranbo ("Cranbo", from cranberry)
Nappuru
Neiburu
Monree ("Monleh", from lemon)
Gupuree (uh.. "Gpera", from grape)
Nabana ("Nabana", from banana)
Roberii ("Rawberry", from strawberry)
Gonmaa ("Gonmah", from mango)
Paiyaa ("Payah", from papaya?)
Kaabosu ("Carbos"?)
Yuuzu ("Yuhzu", from yuzu)

Kiwi is taken by Kyui/Kiwi, lettuce by Turles, and potato by Toteppo. The rest haven't been used for character name puns, as far as I can remember.Innagadadavida wrote:Kiwi?

Peppers?
Soy Beans?
Corn?
Just a few off the top of my head, they may have been used though.

Kiwi was already used earlier in the series he was supposed to be Vegeta’s rivial. Actually, he was the first one Vegeta killed on Namek. Mike writes the name as “Kewi”.Innagadadavida wrote:Kiwi?

The other food names are interesting but do you have any alternative spellings for them?
Yeah, I am familiar with the Appule (Mike’s favorite character) and Oran but I would think that those are the two main fruits that come to peoples minds. They should be up for grabs if they are spelled differently.Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:Some of Freeza's henchmen have taken the fruit puns already, SP - for instance, apple and orange, you mention, have already been used by Appule and Oran.

No I am just familiar with the latter additions to Pokemon, just the original anime. Can you provide a link to a site that has those names listed? If you find that character name list, it would be appreciated.
I always wondered if Toei had went with the idea of introducing Tsufuruian hybrids instead of Bebi in Dragonball GT what would names they would have given the characters.
These are just what I am looking for, thanks. Which ones was the spelling that was used primarily, for example “Ronme” or “Lonme”?Adamant wrote:Some of the video games came up with a couple names on their own.

They were all written in katakana, "Lonme" is just my attempt at a proper romanization to bring the "melon" pun across.Saiyan-Professor wrote: Which ones was the spelling that was used primarily, for example “Ronme” or “Lonme”?
(also, "Gonmaa" is obviously from mango)

I remember somebody on deviantART had a Saiya-jin OC named "Sprout".
Anyway, here's one I thought of quite a while ago, actually:
Punita.
Punita --> Pu Ni Ta --> Taa Ni Puu --> Turnip.
I thought about simplifying it to "Punta", but there's already a character called Punta (even though he is a "one-shot character", according to Kuririn
), but if Toei can get away with "Gokua", I can get away with "Punita".
Oh! Oh! Another one!
Barus (pronounced Baa-roos)
Barus --> Ba Ruu --> Baa Ru Se 'ru --> Brussel
Mabye him and Punita can be brothers. ;P
One more:
Korn --> Corn (stolen from Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru's designs of Bardock's teammates
)

Thar she blows, maties.
I've always been fond of "Cabba" and "Kabaje" as puns on cabbage. The latter I've used in geektacular fanfictions.

*Had an OC named Cally - from cauliflower, before*.

I do not even want to imagine what type of species has someone running around called “cupcake”.Suupaa Gohan 2 wrote:Well despite Buu's penchant for candy, I don't believe any focus was put onto sweets in terms of name puns...like cupcakes, pies, cookies, etc.
