I really just want this whole “remastered” nightmare to be over and done with so that I can forget about how lucrative this shoddy release has been. Not that it will stop me from cringing when I pass them on the shelves, but it’d at least provide some mild comfort.

Oh come on, it's hilarious. I was in Best Buy the other night and got caught up on some other releases (even the horrible Tekkaman Blade dub from my childhood, "Teknoman," which I got 6 discs of for $15), and as I passed by the Z/GT bricks I couldn't help but laugh. This whole thing, in retrospect, has been pretty "lawl" worthy.

I do own the Z bricks, and compared to the Dragonboxes they are truly a joke. A sad joke in a long line of jokes played upon American Dragonball fans.
The series doesn't start with the arrival of Raditz. Stop being lazy and watch Dragonball.

Eh, fuck the whole "DragonBox vs. Domestic" debate, that goes nowhere and closes threads, the releases and the arguments and such that surrounded them alone have been hilarious. As DVD releases, including the advertising and justifications for what was done, they're absolutely hysterical.

They're like a car made by General Motors: Nice and shiny and new looking on the surface, but inside a ticking time bomb made with dated technology ;p

I'm a fan of series that don't even get full DVD releases in the US, let along enough of one to complain about the actual treatment of the product on the disc.

While the orange bricks DO have stupidity sewn into their very core, it's a way to own the entire series in the US cheaply, with Japanese audio and English subs.

A "joke" would be the GaoGaiGar dub, which lasted for the first DVD release and then got shut down, to be replaced by a sub-only release from then on after a long hiatus.

A "joke" would be the state of Lupin III in the US.

A "joke", the US DBZ release is not. Just a release with a set of problems, but hardly a release that isn't worth considering if you don't own the series yet.

Oh come on, you can't tell me you don't get a kick out of the whole "widescreen is more cinematic (hay where gokus head goe?!)" extra on the first set. And how they quickly jettisoned it, despite it being introduced as "one of many" such extras.

It could always be worse, don't get me wrong, I just find it amusing. There's no such thing as a perfect release, these are just wrong for the sake of being wrong and I find it entertaining after fighting it for awhile.

And I realize I'm derailing this thread by accident. My apologies.

It did find it funny that Typhoon of Youtube thought the widescreen was the best thing since DBZ being on Toonami.

Season Sets are good enough for me. I get to marathon the series in either language I want for a good price, and I kinda like the Z sets' widescreen. But they do have their problems, so if FUNi has some sort of epiphany and re-re-releases it with preserved or ACTUALLY-remastered DragonBox footage, you can bet I'll replace the bricks with them in a heartbeat.

As for Season Eight... yay, Majin Vegeta.

All I want are US DragonBox releases with the original, US dub w/ Jap BGM, and US dub tracks.

That's all I want FUNi!
Stop making life so difficult!

God, I hope Gen Fukunaga is reading this. :D

That actually sounds like a lot to ask. :P

All I want is a release of Z that is comparable to their release of DB. :D

...but a bit more economical to account for the longer length of Z.

I'd do anything to make a profit, and with their cunning, FUNi would make profits.

I heard somewhere Toei isn't giving out the DragonBox to FUNi, maybe on DaizEX itself. Any truth to this?

Unsubstantiated. They're not giving anything to anyone, but I'm certain they would sell the footage for the right price. Like any company, money talks with them.

Man, you know what I noticed. NO OFFENCE, just something I noticed. You have so many posts and like 60 % in the past days have been bashing the season boxsets. Seriously IMO it get's a little boring, hearing the same thing from the same person. Sorry I just felt like saying this. NO OFFENCE AT ALL and I'm not even saying you should stop. Just saying I noticed.

There are quite a few members like this. Every chance any of them get to say something about the Season Box Sets or the FUNimation dub or just FUNimation in general. They do. And it's usually followed by 5 or 6 posts agreeing with them and adding some more remarks.

It's all because they don't like the way that others(FUNimation)are using Dragonball. But it isn't their choice to decide on how the companies(FUNimation) use it, so they continue to bicker, bitch, and whine.

That type of attitude is used by a large number of the members on this forum.

Dragon Ball is not special to this type of reaction. One Piece fans did it with 4Kids Entertainment, Naruto fans are doing it with VIZ Media, it's just how anime works. There will always be a handful purists in he bunch.

Exactly. A lot of us don't look at the other points of view. I myself like VIZ's voice actors for Naruto and Bleach, but despise what they do to the endings, openings, and manga series'.

Doesn't purist typically denote someone who is hardcore Japanese (or whatever native language) only on all things? Because, really, I watch quite a few things anime in English. Hell, I actually prefer the English adaptations of quite a few shows, but those are typically fairly faithful to the original versions and get well-made releases.

The whole economics model of "supply and demand" kind of negates that, seeing as I do (in a very, very miniscule measure) get to decide how they use the show by buying or refusing to buy their product. Problem is, I'm seemingly a minority, which is fine.

Err, it is a discussion board. It's not like I bust in like RenaRune and call all the FUNimation supporters Autistic dickheads :P

Honestly, what have been the major discussion items with the series in the past two years? The season sets, the live-action movie and the Jump special. And those are the items I've typically talked about.

Besides, the post you quoted me on, I was just being honest. There's been no proof anywhere, and even some to the contrary, that FUNi can't/couldn't get the DragonBox masters. Is there a problem with answering someone's question that I wasn't aware of?

Indeed. If Funimation has the type of pull to make a deal with Geneon, take 30 titles from ADV,and get 10 licenses by the end of this year....they have the pull necessary to get the Dragonboxes. They just don't want them IMO.
