Where was the Nostalgia? The Transformers themselves were barely recognisable and the movie it'sself was mostly some crappy action/horror/military shindig.omegacwa wrote:I'll agree, the fight scenes in Transformers were a bit, uh, cluttered, but the movie instilled me with so much nostalgia and warm hearted feelings I could ignore that.
John on international response to the live-action movie
This is just desensitation, like with the TF Movie. It doesn't excuse every and any reimagining.- In that vein, if this WEREN'T the first major "re-imagining" of the franchise, I don't think anyone would be having as much of a problem with it as they do. Other series have had multiple re-tellings over the years in many different styles and in many other mediums. Evolution just happens to be DragonBall's first foray into that type of deal, and I think that scares people.
By rule the FIRST movie made of something should stick to the original.

There was plenty of Nostalgia in that movie. What with all the "Autobots TRANSFORM!" and the "Starscream you've failed me again." Or when Optimus and Megatron first met each other.Rena Rune wrote:Where was the Nostalgia?
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

But it SHOULD be. It's never gotten a big budget live action movie before. Why is something that defies an important part of the character "trivial and unreasonable"? Aren't you being unreasonable?Saiyan-Professor wrote: You can dislike the movie for some trivial and unreasonable matter as Kakarrot being in high school or whatever, but it is not as if Fox said it was an accurate adaption.
How is it ruining it? You're insane. Not to mention disrespectful - disliking the movie, even incessantly, based on what we've seen is just an opinion. You are immensely intolerant of other people's opinions, you have to be to call it "whining".The point is all the bitiching and complaining it getting to the wrong people and it is ruining it for those who may want to see the movie.
How was Optimus and Megatron meeting nostalgic? They threw in a few shallow throwbacks to appease the fans. If it wasn't for that, it would have been even more unrecognisable. It was terrible at delivering on nostalgia. "Nostalgia" would have been if they'd have used a Stan Bush track, or gotten some of the characters their original alt modes.Chrono Trigger wrote:There was plenty of Nostalgia in that movie. Says... you? It's James Wong's project, not yours, mine, or that of any other fan. He's free to define his interpretation of it as he likes. We as fans of the original are perfectly allowed to like or not like the end result, but we have no right to try to decree how Mr. Wong SHOULD have handled his own creative project.Rena Rune wrote:But it SHOULD be.

When I saw Transformers it made me feel like a kid again, enjoying something cool for the first time, hence nostalgia.
People who hated Transformers because the Robots didn't transform into cars from eighties is completely dumb. If they had made the movie take place in the eighties then fine, but otherwise don't complain about it.
I guess to you a movie about Transforming Robots from the planet cybertron, where the Autobots face off with the decpeticons, one being led by Optimus Prime, the other by Megatron, isn't close enough to the source material to be any good. I guess Megatron should have transformed into a gun and had starscream handle him.
Rabid Fanboys are the most ridiculous, at least us Dragonball fans appear to be a little more civilized than Transformer fans.

Watch yourself, you wouldn’t want to open up an interfandom war between the two!omegacwa wrote:Rabid Fanboys are the most ridiculous, at least us Dragonball fans appear to be a little more civilized then Transformer fans.
But anyway, that statement is patently untrue: it seems as though the arguments about the Transformers movie are almost identical to the ones we’re having about the Dragon Ball movie. And as is evidenced by the article in the OP, most of the comments about it are far from civilized. DaizEX is just a rare breed of forum, is all.
Dragon Ball Fans… ROLL OUT!
I wouldn't see the fuzz with the people against the movie too, if I liked what I had seen in trailers ect.
I wouldn't be able to understand all the negative comments and responses either, if the movie had fallen into my taste.
I wouldn't be all mad about the story adaptation either, it it wasn't because of that I like the original. Just as I rather would have an original Ford Thunderbird manufactured in 1955 than an exact replica manufactured in 2008.
I wouldn't understand the design and new concepts in the movie either, if it wasn't because of that I am more of a classic artist than a modern one.
I, as the DBE "hater", am as fine and "modern" and open as you pro-movie fans are, but the difference here is:
1) We see things different.
2) We are different people.
3) We all are different types of fans.
4) We all are different types of consumers.
5) We have different types of views on things.
That doesn't make us whiners, or close-minded morons, not does it make you that either.
The next person labeling someone else as something (like "whiner") based on if they are pro or against the movie, I hope breaks a leg.
It's not nice to do so. Our mommies told us that.

Well, technically its Fox's project. They provide the bankroll, they say jump and Wong (along with the others) say "how high?" The thing is, without a market for the movie, there is no movie. Saying it's Wong's project may be true, but making a movie no one wants to see (which, going by numbers, the optimists are the minority) is bad business.SSj Kaboom wrote:Says... you? Yes, we have infinite right to do so. We are asked to pay money to see a movie. If we like it, we tell friends and family and they possibly see it, leading to greater financial success. If we don't like it, the inverse happens. Citing the old "It wasn't for you, so you can't criticize it" defense is fairly meaningless. Eddie Van Halen tried it with "Van Halen III," which was possibly the worst album I've heard in my life. It didn't sell and the band went on hiatus for about 5 years or so.He's free to define his interpretation of it as he likes. It actually reminds me of a Penny-Arcade comic:

I don't know if this is related or not, but on a Street Fighter movie blog, a crew member said Fox didn't make the film but they are only distributing it and promoting it. Capcom and another production company chose the director, writer, and pretty much everything else.
As for Dragonball, Dune Entertainment, Star Overseas (Stephen Chow's company), and Fox are the production companies. So I think if we are to blame a studio (after the movie comes out of course) we can blame all those companies equally.
The promotion, though, is all Fox.

Had it not been for mentions of it in threads on these forums, I wouldn't even know there was a Street Fighter movie coming out.
And that movie's coming next month, right?

On the subject of hair; Christina Aguilera has blue hair for a portion of one of her newest videos; the hair doesn't look too bad.

I'd hope the movie doesn't cause something as apocalyptic as the entire fandom crumbling.
