It's from the Red Ribbon Army Saga, in a filler episode.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:And considering that Roshi is not in his Jackie Chun guise, I don't think it's from the Daimao saga. Still, it just seems like a slight extrapolation on Bulma's mention of the last person who got the Dragon Balls becoming a king.
John on international response to the live-action movie
ROSHI
Seven mystics banded together to fight the invaders. It was only through the courage of the ancient masters that Earth survived. They sacrificed their lives to cast the Ma Fu Ba, a powerful curse that imprisoned Lord Piccolo into an encircling urn. Before their deaths, they created the Dragon Balls. So that their power, in the form of Shen Long the Dragon God, may be used against a future threat.

So they're actually using the name "Mafuba" in the live-action movie, and not "Evil Containment Wave" or whatever the dub name is? Interesting.
Kanzenshuu: Is that place still around?

Or maybe the adaptation isn't as bad as you think, or maybe they're at least not intentionally trying to ruin your favorite cartoon. There's always that.jda95 wrote:I agree. It didn't really sound like "BAAAA" or "MAAAA" or "HAAAA" just "AAAAAA". Maybe making us think it's the Kamehameha, but it could be them screwing with us, non-fans would assume it's the Kamehameha, as would we, but we know better, even though it could be either one, my money's on Mafuba.Super Ghost Kamikaze wrote:Or maybe the adaptation isn't as bad as you think, or maybe they're at least not intentionally trying to ruin your favorite cartoon. It's the episode where Roshi's explaining how the Dragon Balls came to be (or so we thought at first due to it being filler).Herms wrote:And what filler is that with Roshi talking about the dragonballs? I noticed that was the only anime clip that used the dub, so did the original mention any chosen one?
The whole "one voice" thing is just in regards to someone having collected the Dragon Balls to make a wish to Shenlong.

Not only that, but they call the different stars on the Dragon Balls a name in Japanese. I don't speak Japanese so I don't know what they mean. The four star ball is named "Doshinstu" or something. Don't hold me to that name.Herms wrote:So they're actually using the name "Mafuba" in the live-action movie, and not "Evil Containment Wave" or whatever the dub name is? Interesting.
EDIT: No it was Sushinchu.

That should help. Just replace "ron" with "chu."

That was a good video. It points out a lot of things I have been saying from the Get go that a lot of the so called "haters" were ignoring just to be hatefilled. By the way, I am not referring to anyone specifically so don't get all pouty and mad.
I really hope the info Jappo just released is true, cause that would be very sweet.

That's like about the same thing as those idiots who think they're cool for having a Kanji symbol for something like "free" or "love" tattooed on them.Innagadadavida wrote:Maybe because Mafuba sounds cooler than "Evil Containment Wave."
Evil Containment Wave is the same thing as Mafuba. It's not like Special Beam Cannon or Light of Death.

There's a couple reasons why that line's delivery is okay, when you think about it:Kendamu wrote:But it's so much fun to parody it!JAPPO wrote:I love how people aren't overreacting to that line.
1) This Goku may be already used to seeing Capsule tech in action by this point. Even in the manga, once he knew what it was, he was using capsules all the time and he really did think they were "cool."
2) Judging from the timing in what we know of the plot, and the wrecked house and stuff in the background... Grandpa Gohan has JUST died. Can't blame Goku for being a little gloomy in light of that.

Well, I don't really know how Japanese word structure works, but if "Evil Containment Wave" actually IS a legitimate translation, doesn't that mean "Mafuba" is three seperate words put together? "Ma," "Fu," and "Ba?" Evolution's writers wouldn't necessarily be "wrong" having it that way, if such as the case. Maybe just a little awkward.
