Why does Mai look like a female version of the Phantom?
Because the artists were hired off the streets of Detroit.

You guys haven't seen many storyboards I take it. That's actually a very clean and professional one.

Isn't the American trailer supposed to come out this month?
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

What's the point if the beginning of the movie is such dreadful rubbish? Beginnings are supposed to draw you in.

Oh, well if you got it 'from someone', then I'm sure it's geniune.

By all means bro, serve it up so I can save them before Fox removes 'em again.

Indeed. I'm surprised so many people are taking this as gospel without any questions at all.

I think it's because he is usually the first to dish out news and pictures.

I don't think I implied that he was lying. I'm simply saying a script coming out all the sudden, especially with previous "drafts" elsewhere being proven to be fradulent, raises some suspicions. I'm sure he thinks it is the genuine article, but until the movie comes out proving it to be so, I'll take it as another fake.

To be honest, as much flak as JAPPO can get sometimes, I trust him on this stuff. He seems like the kind of pro-movie fan who wouldn't screw around with it.

And if he is just dishing up a platter of crap, then may he spend eternity in HFIL, being tickled by old ladies.

The things that have been revealed in this thread so far, though, are making me more and more excited for this movie. Sure, it defintely isn't the best adaptation, but it could be a lot worse. Besides, this is America, what'd you expect?

I’m not really surprised by much, knowing what we’ve known about it for as long as we have.

The script so far just seems to be Hollywood sticking to its guns. The story is very, very “safe”. I guarantee you that this script was picked up because:
  1. It’s a superhero movie. As many have wondered previously: “Why is DB getting a LAM now, 10 years after the height of its popularity?”, well, the answer is that it’s due to the recent trend of high earnings associated with superhero movies; only now that all of the obvious ones like Superman, Spider-Man, Batman, X-Men, etc. have been done, companies are starting to mine slightly less recent successes (like Max Payne), for new live-action material.
  2. It’s the story of “well-meaning-awkward-boy-gets-bullied-for-being-different-which-elicits-sympathy-from-his-out-of-league-crush-who-almost-gives-him-a-chance-but-their-chemistry-is-interrupted-by-a-set-of-unexpected-circumstances-that-necessitate-the-boy-stepping-out-of-his-comfort-zone-and-saving-the-day-despite-all-odds-who-with-newfound-confidence-finally-gets-the-girl-and-lives-happily-ever-after”, which apparently no one ever tires of seeing.
In other words: it was made solely for the purpose of making money. My guess is that Dragon Ball in its existing form was either considered too much of a financial risk (or to put it bluntly, “not Western enough”) to translate faithfully, or, its merely been stripped of artistic integrity as a byproduct of the moviemaking process—because it’s easier to feed a cash cow without worrying about its diet.

Either way, not very impressed in the least. I’ll still sneak into it for shits and giggles, though.

Ow, I can see the Japanese translators banging their heads against the wall, wondering how on Earth they're going to translate that. "Master Roshi" is stupid dubism at it's best.

The only way I could think they'd translate it as "KA-ME-SEN" Goku just can't figure out the last Kanji for Kame-Sen'nin, well in the subtitles at least.
