I see where you're coming from, but my opinion shouldn't have any bearing on anyone else’s love of the show, I've never said anything like "You're stupid for liking the dub" or anything even remotely personal, so I think those that take it so personally need to take a step back, us fans of the original Japanese cast would be crying curled up in the foetal position in the corner if we took everything the fandom said to heart.

We're talking about a tv show here, I think people are being more than a little precious if they can't handle a bit of criticism.

No offense to MasakoX, I think he's a fantastic VA and all, but I find it grossly offensive to say that he should replace Schemmel.

I really fail to see how that is offensive in any way, taking people's preferences of voice actor for a cartoon character as a personal affront is extremely childish, and a little stupid.

I think he was relatively dreadful. At the very least, you could see where Sabat was going with his characterizations. Schemmel tended to make the character sound like a bipolar midnight comedian.

Don't quote me on it 'cuz I'd have to dig through and find it (and I think it may be on the hard drive that recently died), but back when we had an interview with Schemmel way back when on the site, I'm pretty sure he actually referred to Goku as being bi-polar.

Yep...

I don't see why people refer to Vegeta's dub voice as being like a smokers.

It just sounds like someone set his switch to Cocky and Asshole and forgot to turn it off.

He did, I actually remember that clear as day. I can't find it via Google though.

Perhaps because Chris Sabat smokes. A lot. And you can hear it in his voices.

Eh, he sounds like a caricature of an cocky asshole, not so much the real deal. It's always played to the cheap seats, in my opinion.

I've never thought that Vegeta sounds like a smoker. Honest to God, I've never had the thought, even back when I first started watching the show, that Vegeta sounded like he smoked a lot.

Hell, I've never understood how Piccolo and Vegeta sound cartoonish. Is it really impossible for people to have deep voices. Hell, Piccolo sounds like a few black guys I know (and I'm black, myself) or see on TV. Does that mean that their voices aren't normal.
Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Vegeta's voice would sound odd coming from a real person's mouth.

Piccolo and Yamcha, not so much.

Well yeah, I definitely would be weirded out if a regular person had his voice, but then again, Vegeta isn't a regular person.

I think I'd be more concentrated on the massive widow peak, eyes the size of baseballs, and the forehead you can land a plane on before I considered his voice sounding strange.

Sheesh. This is gonna be the fourth time I say it during my history here, so I'm gonna be lazy and quote myself from . . . wow. Just a few pages back in this very thread:

And yeah.

(laughing) I wouldn't say that Gokuu's actually Bi-Polar, he just kinda seems that way because he can get so serious when he's about to defend the planet, and then get so carefree when food's on the table and nothing else can phase him.

I thought that was a fandub at first...then I realized that it was another golden attempt at humor by our friends at Funimation.

Sheesh, people, he was joking when he said Goku was bi-polar. And look at the very next thing he said:

The Garlic Jr. Saga's dub was even worse than Frieza saga. Garlic Jr. had so many horrible one-liners, like the aforementioned "PEEK-A-BOO! Come to Big Daddy Garlic!" and "Well it's like they say: Old Namekians don't die, they just fade away!"
