Looking for some japanese song names...

Post by teotihuacan » Thu Jan 22, 2009 9:06 pm

I need to find out some song names, and I was wondering if you guys could help me out. The songs I need titles for are:

Super Saiyan transformation
Cooler transformation
SS Goku getting stomped by Meta Cooler (right before Vegeta shows up)
Vegeta surprise attacks Cell before Cell gets killed
Cell dies

I know that these are not the only times these tracks get used, its just these were the most memorable scenes (in my opinion) where they get played. Thanks.

These pieces of BGM don't have their own actual names - they're parts of compilation suites on the CDs, and the tracks, which comprise several songs altogether, are given names. I've given my own personal fan-names to each of these songs, but I'm sure that doesn't help you any. Why do you want to know? Are you after the CDs?

EDIT: OK, I've looked over my notes - here's what I came up with.

Super Saiyan transformation: I'm assuming you mean the first scene where Goku goes Super on Namek. Since the song was composed originally for Movie 1, every BGM CD that has any Movie 1 music on it contains this song. The movie in Japan had the simple title "DragonBall Z", and that's the name of the track on each CD (the same goes for each subsequent movie BGM track - the track name is simply the title of the movie). You can find this particular piece on:
Ongakushu Vol. 1, track 2, part "A" (as in the first song on the track)
5-disc set, disc 4, track 11, part "C"
BGM Collection, disc 1, track 15, part "C"

Cooler transformation: Do you mean Coola's armor-shift in Movie 5? Well, the track name is Tobikkiri no Saikyou tai Saikyou, or "The Outstanding Strongest vs. Strongest". It's on:
5-disc set, disc 4, track 15, part "C"
BGM Collection, disc 2, track 4, part "C"

SS Goku getting stomped by Meta Cooler (right before Vegeta shows up): I looked over my notes, and it's been a while since I last saw Movie 6, so I can't remember exactly when Vegeta shows up, but there is a song in my notes that I have titled "Coola's Arm Regenerates". I'm guessing that's the scene you mean. The track is "Charge! 10-Billion Power Warriors", and the song is found on:
Ongakushu Vol. 1, track 8, part "C"
5-disc set, disc 5, track 12, part "B"
BGM Collection, disc 2, track 8, part "I"

Vegeta surprise attacks Cell before Cell gets killed: This is the one exception to the rule as it actually does have a somewhat-official title. Ongakushu Vol. 2 gives each song its own track, and each track its own name, so we have something to call it by. (DOUBLE EDIT: And whoops, I forgot to mention what that name is! It's Demon Brolly.) On other CD sets, it's known as "Burn Up!! A Close, Intense, Super-Fierce Battle", and it's found altogether on:
Ongakushu Vol. 2, track 15
5-disc set, disc 5, track 14, part "B"
BGM Collection, disc 2, track 12, part "E"

Cell dies: This is from Movie 3, "Super Deciding Battle Over the Whole Earth". It can be found on:
Ongakushu Vol. 1, track 4, part "A"
5-disc set, disc 5, track 9, part "A"
BGM Collection, disc 1, track 21, part "A"

Hope all this helps. You lucky dog, all the songs you're after are available on CD! :)

BGM forever! If only more people paid attention to it... well, I intend to change that.

Thank you kenisu3000, I've been wondering about those two Cell themes from the middle of Z for a while.

And by the way, congratulations on finishing the rough draft of your DragonBall BGM Documentation. Can't wait for the completed version!!

I've actually been reading through a lot of these fan-titles and side-notes you've made, and I have to admit, they are quite witty and enjoyable! Here's one I just found and it really made me chuckle:

The only thing is, you didn't list the track as available on any CD, yet it's not in red text...

Keep up the great work!!

Yeah, I thought the irony there was really funny when I came across it, so I had to throw in a side note of some sort. I'm glad somebody else picked it up, too... I wasn't sure my little quips would be noticed, as they pretty much swim in a sea of bland text and are probably really hard to spot.
Also, thanks for alerting me to the lack of red text-ness. There are hundreds of these nasty little errors I'm going to have to go back and correct in the final draft. :)

I'd like to thank you for all the hard work you've done with your BGM notes kenisu3000.

(...You know, I never posted that Itoi essay on Starman.net, did I?...)

You're welcome. Sure it's hard work, but if you can believe it, I actually enjoy typing these things up. It may seem to others like a huge, painful job, but for someone like me (who WANTS to see it done), it's actually a form of stress relief. (Except for just now, when I got up to episode 28, and my internet apparently timed out, and I hadn't saved. Grumble, grumble. Oh well, just two episodes lost.)
(...You know, I never posted that Itoi essay on Starman.net, did I?...)
My offer still stands: I could post it there for you in your name, just give me the word. There was actually a thread there recently where people were wondering where I had run off to, so I've been trying to be better about posting there (and here). It would give me a good excuse to keep at it, but then again it might also give you an immediate "in" with the Starmen.net crowd if you registered and posted it yourself. There's plenty of EarthBound fans there who are also into DragonBall (linkdude20002001, for one), so I'm sure they'd find it intriguing.

And teotihuacan, you're welcome. :)
