Dragon Ball GT: Season 2 Discussion
I really like all of the English Narrators we got except for Dale Kelly. I think he's the stereotypical feel of an over acting Narrator. Brice Armstrong was very calming, Kyle Hebert and Andrew Chandler sounded intense. I like that feel. I like the intenser narrator for the intenser recaps. Like during major fights in the Z/GT Era. I realize many people like the consistency of the JP Narrator, but I think considering the intensity of the series picked up eventually. It's not really unfitting for the Dub to use a Narrator like Hebert.
As for GT's ending in the Dub...I hated having the Voices playing over Dan Dan during the earlier DragonBall stuff, it just didn't work well. I think once it got to Piccolo Daimao's death I started to like it. It just seemed to work more, hard to explain.

If I can get someone to rip me the vocals for the endings, I can try to do mixes with the original music.
I'll also see what I could do about doing an edit so that the narrator's cornball dialogue is dealt with. I also honestly feel the whole talking during the whole montage kinda takes away from the whole nostalgia aspect. Especially when half of the things said weren't actually used in the dubs for each respective series.

Whoa, take a look at this.
Okay, here's the original version of ending four: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aNQULDb0EIU
Now, here's FUNi's version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqZX_NsX ... annel_page
Notice anything different? Look at the backgrounds. Goku's clothes are blowing much faster in the English version, and there are actually clouds moving in the original version.
This confirms a theory that I've had since I really paid attention to English GT ending two: FUNi wasn't given textless versions of endings 2-4, so they've been making their own by looping scenes and utilizing some of the best editing I think they've ever done. Wow, that's really cool that they went through the trouble and did that instead of just using the textless version of the first ending for the entire series like other countries do. Looks like they're putting more effort into these sets than just dubbing the songs...
Geez, where was THIS FUNimation when the Z sets were being planned?!

Wow, so what you're saying is they took the scene of Goku standing on the rock and looped it. Then started the scene zoomed into the picture. Slowly panned out. Then overlapped that looped image (while panning out) with the various walking Goku animations? Wow. Thats a pretty cool find.

Funny how the first time I didn't notice it, yet after it has been pointed out, it's incredibly obvious.
Yet another reason to own the original releases, having the clouds in all of their original uncensored glory
.
Seriously though, I'm impressed at the editing job by FUNimation, the fact I didn't notice it when I watched it is a testament to that, I'm usually pretty good at catching that kind of stuff.

I've already asked the guy who uploaded them if we could work on getting those. And for the end, ANYONE could do that (taking away some of the dialouge) because its properelly done 5.1 surround soundTsukento wrote:If I can get someone to rip me the vocals for the endings, I can try to do mixes with the original music.

Blue Velvet and Machine Gun sound amazing although I wasn't sure about Justin Long singing the fourth due to the terrible dub of the Ouran Ending ("I'd rather run a thousand MI-ALLLLS" ><) but he's great here so he's been improving ^_^ Overall, these two dubs are better than the last two.

Whatever, FUNi, I'll take it either way. But you owe me Unmei No Hi in the dub track the next time around.
That's the part I really don't understand. You'd think that since these are songs done by actual Japanese bands if it were a licensing problem, wouldn't it be harder to acquire rights to than songs made by the actual company? Maybe I don't have a good grasp of how licensing works, but I think if they have rights to all of the GT BGM they'd have it for, or should easily be able to get it for Z.
Trans rights, now!

Watching the fourth ending on YouTube, I noticed a credit for "rotoscoping"... which I found incredibly strange and intriguing.MagicBox wrote:Whoa, take a look at this.

So this actually makes a crap-ton of sense, now.

So, has anybody been able to discover who sings the English version of each ending? I think all we've found out so far is that...
Opening: Vic Mignogna
Ending 4: Justin Long
Has anybody figured out any of the women who sang the remaining endings? I'm hoping maybe you One Piece fans can help out here, since you've been getting a bunch of dubbed songs lately.

Quick question in regard to both Seasons 1 and 2, about the second opening, is it just me or does the 'new' segment at the end of Baby attacking the GT gang and Goku going all-SSJ levels look like it's from a very poor master? This has probably been brought up before, not sure either way. What it looks like FUNi did there was use the video track for the first opening right up to Baby appearing, then the quality dramatically changes. I mean, for just about 20 seconds, that's worse quality than DBZ Season 2 IMHO.
Props to FUNi for the crafty editing, though it makes me wonder if they even bothered asking Toei if they could just use the Dragonbox masters of those specific textless versions their digi-beta masters apparently didn't have. Wouldn't it be a lot less trouble and probably less expensive? Also, on a separate dub-related subject, here's hoping for the switcheroo between Hercule and Mr. Satan to stop in this new set.
Oh yeah, dub of the 4th ending is awesome~

Really? I thought that one was particularly MIDI-rific with horribly flat singing. Amazing disappointment, especially after an acceptable job with the opening (which I suppose is far more important than the endings).Conan the SSJ wrote:Oh yeah, dub of the 4th ending is awesome~

I agree. I think they did a better job with the opening and the other two endings.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

Yeah, it looks pretty bad. It looks the same on the Japanese version of the old singles too. FUNi probably got it from there. Personally, even though it looks like crap, I'm still surprised FUNi actually noticed that the opening changed slightly.Conan the SSJ wrote:Quick question in regard to both Seasons 1 and 2, about the second opening, is it just me or does the 'new' segment at the end of Baby attacking the GT gang and Goku going all-SSJ levels look like it's from a very poor master? Didn't that part look bad on the DragonBox as well? I think I remember a few people saying that in the old season one thread.
Regarding the English songs, I'd say ending one was handled best (even considering the singer's gender change), followed by the opening, and then the remaining endings.
