Does Goku sound exactly the same as both an adult...

Discussion regarding the entirety of the franchise in a general (meta) sense, including such aspects as: production, trends, merchandise, fan culture, and more.

Err, that'd kind of kill the point of having the form have a different voice to begin with, no? Doesn't Schemmel have some special voice for SSJ4 or something also?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXNqYm56tcU about 3 minutes in.

It's like he turned his "Serious Goku" switch up to maximum and left it there.

I forgot how doujinshi-esque that transformation sequence was.
Also, as with the anime's version of the ssj3 Goku transformation, there's nudity; only more of it this time.

Well at least adult Kakarrot would have sounded like a guy, I get somewhat creeped out when I listen to the Japanese voice track. Nevertheless, I can say I love her Kamehameha for some strange reason.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

I still don't get that argument. Nozawa's voice took me about 1-2 episodes to adjust to when I was 14, but it never gave me the impression of "OMG GOKU IS GIRL! GHEY!"

And honestly, if you know a woman who speaks at the tone Nozawa's adult Goku does, get her some estrogen. Stat ;p

Now, if Megumi Hayashibara was doing Goku's voice, then I'd get the constant comments.

A voice actress with a very feminine voice.

Anyway, as I've said many times before, it's no big deal, especially not for people who watched Dragonball from the beginning starting with young Gokuh. It takes like two seconds to get used to and she has a very good hold on the character so you just forget about after a while.

While I don't think Nozawa has as wide a range as some actors, she definitely does well enough for me to differentiate between her Gokuh, Gohan, and Goten.

I haven't watched much GT, but that's the general story with Budoukai 3.

Japanese DB fans will probably recognize some familiar voices in that clip by the way. XD

I've only seen some Japanese DragonBall from youtube, but I do notice a difference between Ms. Nozawa's performance there vs. the special from this past year. The special was the first I had seen of DragonBall in Japanese, and I can say that even as a dubbie, by the end of it I was used to hear Goku voiced by a woman.

My first reaction was "Wow...that's different." But I quickly stopped caring once I got into the mode of actually watching the show, and I considered her voice normal by the end. My experience with the show thus far had only been Schemmel (well, and the guy from Ocean's dub I can't remember), and since he doesn't have a manly voice for Goku, it didn't seem that odd to me (I recall the Toonami intro for the Other World Tournament where Goku says, "Got you!" and lets out a hitch pitched nnaaaaa-AHHHHH-aahhhhh!).

I'm not sure what the big deal about the voice is, considering King Kai's voice in the Funimation version was....I don't even know.

PS - Been lurking here for a few months (I stumbled upon the Special here) and I can officially say, I hate all of you for reawakening my interest in DB/DBZ. :P Now I want to go and buy every episode and volume of the manga (have some scattered pieces of the Viz Manga that my parents bought when I was younger), which will be a challenge while paying for college.
Not a problem.

I like it when people get that impression. It generally leaves them open to either version just enough that I don't have to hear any whining if they come over and I wanna watch the show in Japanese. I mean, I don't whine when I watch it in English at their place.

PS - Welcome! I wish we had custom rankings here. Based on your user name, I'd try very hard to convince you to change your rank to "Cat Loves Food."

Incidentally, Megumi Hayashibara voiced the blind boy that Buu heals.

My fansubs of that episode made it a point to put up a little splash on the screen (yes, right in the middle of the episode) that said something like "LITTLE BLIND BOY PLAYED BY MEGUMI HAYASHIBARA!!!"

Can't remember who subbed it. I think Ctenosaur...?

Is it just me, or in DBGT, does Nozawa seem to occasionally forget she's voicing Chibi Goku? A lot of times she uses a higher pitched Dragonball-esque voice whereas others it sounds like Z-era Goku.

Just my observation, never seen it really discussed elsewhere. Perhaps after ten years she simply wasnt able to hit the same register she was able to w/ Dragonball-era Goku anymore but the recent games seem to argue otherwise.

Yeah I know that is why I loaded the shotgun last night and grabbed some extra shells off the shelf and starting sipping on a fifth of Jack Daniels while listening to 50 cent.

I was stating that I was glad that I did not have to listen to Kakarrot’s Japanese voice actor through the whole series and he reversed it on me.

I'm kinda tempted to actually pull out Masako Nozawa's different voice ranges for all of the characters she voiced in DB/Z/GT.

Her Tullece is most definitely noticeable for sounding cold and ruthless.

And that is what turns fanboys and fangirls away from the Japanese version since Goku sounds the same nearly all the time.

Us fans prefer the English voice for Goku because he atleast sounds different in both his child and adult voices, whilst the Japanese didn't bother to use someone else for his adult roles and gave him that same generic voice that makes him sound like a high pitched cat x3
