I agree Chris Sabat should voice Goku too.Saiyan-Professor wrote:Some can call it closed-minded but where I come from men sound like men and women sound like women. The cartoons, television shows and movies I grew up on the heroes sounded like males. I can picture John Wayne walking into a saloon full of cutthroats and telling them to “clear out” yet his voice was that of Joanne Dru. I can just imagine watching Thundercats and Lion-O is leading them in battle with Cheetara or Pumyra’s voice. I am sorry but that would not work.
Does Goku sound exactly the same as both an adult...

But most of those people started out as men characters and not boys that became men. All that Toei was doing was just continuing with what they had.Saiyan-Professor wrote:Some can call it closed-minded but where I come from men sound like men and women sound like women. My argument is that if Goku was an adult throughout then he more than likely would have had a male seiyuu.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Redundant point, as it's painfully clear Chris Sabat should voice everyone in the entire series. I don't want Son John Wayne-ku sounding like some four year old girl on helium after getting kicked in the inexplicably-there goolies.NeptuneKai wrote:I agree Chris Sabat should voice Goku too.

Not necessarily. Look at Kenshin.Vekurotto wrote:But most of those people started out as men characters and not boys that became men. Well excuuuuuuse some of us for not sounding like what you want us to, buddy.Saiyan-Professor wrote:Some can call it closed-minded but where I come from men sound like men and women sound like women.
Speaking of Chris Sabat voicing everybody, you could easily give him a woman's role and he'd be great. Like so...

But Kenshin sounds way more manly than Nozawa's Goku. And unfortunately Kenshin's Japanese voice fits him, (that does not mean that Nozawa doesn't fit Goku), because of his looks.Bussani wrote:Not necessarily. Let's not crack with the jokes
.
Saiyan-Professor, I think you have fair enough points with your background and what you expect of characters. I think it falls apart when you compare the characters you've mentioned to Goku, though. Regardless of him being a Japanese creation, if you just look at him as a character compared to Lion-O and John Wayne's various characters, there's... well... absolutely no comparison.
Briefly skimming over some things I've missed, but I will give credit where it's due to Schemmel adapting his voice for the SSJ3 and SSJ4 forms. Let's not forget, though, that despite how obvious it probably was to do that... Masako Nozawa did the same thing a decade earlier.
That's part of why I think Tsukento is on to something cool with a direct, sequential comparison of Nozawa's performances (both as Goku and others). It will be a great way to just point and show what we mean. I fully believe that it doesn't take an understanding of the language to just hear the tones and delivery that we're talking about when we describe those performances.

Freeza might not have any visible genitals in his final form, but he does wear that little black bit of underwear in his 1st-3rd forms, so maybe he's got something under there? Granted, the final form is supposed to be his true form.

As I said earlier it is not the fact that a woman voiced him it is that it appeared as if she did not even sound masculine. I am speaking from what I am used to and my personal preference. I watch Naruto (which I am doing right now), and he sounds like a young boy and in Shippuden he sounds like a teenage male. Concerning the Freeza image, I always thought of him as a Dr. Frank N. Furter from the Rocky Horror Picture Show type of character to begin with so it does not bother me that he sounds like a woman. Before the jokes start I watched it initially with a girl I was interested in once and for some strange reason I watch it annually even though the girl been gone.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

Well if their physiology is similar to reptiles, then they wouldn't have visible genitals. So that could be one viable explanation.Herms wrote:Freeza might not have any visible genitals in his final form, but he does wear that little black bit of underwear in his 1st-3rd forms, so maybe he's got something under there? As we said, they probably never intended for Goku to sound masculine. I don't think it's important to his character. I don't know why, but his Japanese voice seems to suit him to me.Saiyan-Professor wrote:As I said earlier it is not the fact that a woman voiced him it is that it appeared as if she did not even sound masculine.
