I could just imagine how cool it would be to have a confident yet enraged sounding insert song for Goku's SSJ transformation.
Umm but what the hell could they play? Something like Spirit vs Spirit wouldn't work during the SSJ3 transformation.
They could have developed an original song for that scene like they did with Spirit Vs. Spirit. Instead they went with some stock music we've heard 100 times before.
Well like I said people will have differing opinions. I honestly didn't give a damn. Toei's choice of music or not, that scene was actually tolerable to me this time unlike when I could never watch it without wanting to chuck a Wii mote into my computer screen.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Well, I think we've just gotten a request for Majin Vegeta's creepy grin after he blew up the stands. That's all I can remember...

As for me, is Goku's first SSj3 transformation on this set? I'd like to see some caps from that.
Alright, I'll snap the shots of SSJ3 and Majin Vegeta. I'll post them in a few minutes.

Don't get me wrong what they have now is much much much better then the dub music IMO. I'm just saying so much more could have been done with it.

Hell even if they were going to use stock music they had much more fitting songs to choose from. That's how I see it at least.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

True enough, although I really do think scenes like these are worthy of a new song and not something we've heard so many times before.

Is it me or does this set just look like the singles in 'wide' screen

Not just you, I thought the same thing when I watched the youtube clip. Though a little oversaturated, I must say this set is looking good.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Hell if that's the case I might just might buy this cause I've got the ultimate soft spot for the Buu saga.

Just let me know if you guys want any more pics.

At first, I thought they quit with the "remastering" but DVNR is still apparent in some scenes. I only watch this and the SSJ3 episodes, so far.

^ The season sets look like the better buy.

I'm wondering...is there a way to show how much footage from Funi's singles get cropped out due to overscan? I'm just wondering since the season sets have no overscan right? I'm really on the fence about buying this cause it's the Buu saga even though I still hate the widescreen.

The choice to not apply to usual excessive blur to the original footage is interesting--is it possible that FUNimation is finally listening to our concerns? I think most people here generally prefer the grain from the original footage as an intentional aesthetic property of the original footage, and the film in this particular release seems to be completely intact. I don't think they'd make a decision like that unprompted.

In any case, while I'm not a huge fan of the grain, the fully intact footage is making this look much, much better than previous releases. Cool beans. :)

As long as the grain doesn't make the footage look like A) like walking through a desert or B) like the picture is frozen like in the Freeza singles, then I'm fine. Grain was a part of the show to begin with like you said.

I don't think you have a good comprehension of what film grain is. You are confusing grain with film damage with option A. Or over saturation with B.

That sand-like layer over the film right?

You Mean Silver Halide, right?
Anyway, mainly only older movies get what you call "sand-like layer" is not really film grain, that is damage that get attached from the deterioration of the original film master.

That is unless we are talking about movies from 40 and below, then that's old fashion "hardcore" film grain. Got to love Griffith's Intolerance, that looked like you were walking through the desert.

I think you're the one who's misunderstanding Vekurotto. The Grain is the sand-looking stuff. Film damage are the spots and scratches that come up occasionally. Grain is the sand-looking stuff.
