"Tell me: is it slavery when you get what you want?!"

Okay, the dub's not Shakespeare, but that was badass. Wow.

Neat clips. Babidi's "ahh"ing and "ohh"ing annoyed me during the Super Saiyan 3 clip, but it's always neat to hear the English version paired with the original score.

Anyway, passing on this set just like I did with the first seven. I'll wait for a fullscreen release. From the screencaps, though, it looks like fans who aren't bothered by the cropping will be quite pleased.

Here's an image from the Season 6 thread comparing how much image you're losing/gaining:

Image

You gain more than you lose when compared to the singles, and vice-versa when compared to the Dragon Boxes.

Also, I was watching the remastered clip of Vegeta provoking Goku, and now, Goku has a lot more angry grunting, and also grunts when he transforms, but originally, he made no noise in the dub.

Out of curiosity, does a small clip of the japanese soundtrack still play on the english BGM track after coming back from the eyecatchers in the episode where Majin Vegeta goes ballistic and Goku threatens Kaioshin? I recall a release having that, not sure which...

EDIT: Specifically, I mean this scene.

That comparison image really only works with the Cell stuff, which was the most "zoomed in" of the original releases.

Everything else is pretty consistent with the 20% loss from the vertical picture.

Doesn't change the fact that the singles are still zoomed in.

It looks like it's the same case with these too.

And Captain Awesome, do you have proof that the Cell Saga is more zoomed in?

There were plenty of comparisons with the Dragonboxes that showed that FUNimation didn't treat their original releases consistently, in regards to both the zooming and the saturation. The treatment Cell stuff probably has to do with the fact it was the last stuff FUNimation put out.

I mean you really don't need to look beyond the first season set thread with the comparisons to the UUE's, compare those with that Cell comparison picture.

Funimation has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that their prints are zoomed in. That concerns Toei and the film masters they gave Funimation.

Aren't the season sets proof to the contrary?, FUNimation clearly did their own framing with those.

Woo-wee. Season 8 is retailed at $46.99 cdn at BestBuy at the moment. In dismay, I decided to have a gander at the price listed over at Amazon.ca. However, not much of a difference with a listed price of $42.99.

Now, I don't find that ridiculous; however, it is quite the dismal that Seasons 1, 2, and 3 are retailed at $42 cdn + over at BestBuy. Meanwhile the three sets are listed at $24.99 cdn on amazon.ca. I find it strange, as BestBuy originally retailed the first few sets at a much lower price ($5 - $10 lower atleast!) from what I recall.

Just an interesting tid-bit I found upon observation.

Odd, Season 8 is on special this week for $29.99 at Best Buy in the US. No "season + movies" deal, but that is the cheapest a season by itself has debuted at BB. Looks like the msrp dropped, because Amazon's got them at the same price (cheap movies, too). There's your "season + movies" deal.

I believe so. I'm pretty sure that Funi was responsible for the zooming in and saturating their masters.
Be grateful the filler in Dragon Ball doesn't suck like the 3rd arc of Rurouni Kenshin.

Hay guys is it just me or is their more image to the sides of the single this time than to the remastered ones, since to these screen shots the right side of Goku has more cityscape to it than the remastered one...

Seems that Funimation are getting lazy in these last sets and are giving us less extra image than before, as a fangirl I am appald beyond belief >w<

No, you are wrong. That shot is slowly zooming out, and both were taken at a different frame. The shots of Vegeta show the actual amount of footage we get in this set. Roughly the same as the previous set.

Really? I thought it looked like there was much more on the sides on the "remastered" than usual (but apparently they were different frames, so blah).

He's trying to be cutesy...y'know like a "SUPA KAWAII" girl. I'm just wondering who he's still trying to fool. I would be a lot less hard on him if he just admitted he was Gokuden and posted as Gokuden.

It's just a regular shot of Goku, no zooming out. What probably happened was that there was another shot shown later where his face is more zoomed in. I'll try to find it.

And FUNI is NOT responsible for the masters being zoomed in. TOEI gave them digi-beta masters, they were already transferred to tape, they couldn't do anything to them as far as framing goes. Mess with the colors, filter it? Yes, but they couldn't change the framing.

EDIT: Here's a better comparison:
