Corey does have a point though.
Toriyama's basically saying that a way for fans and himself to enjoy it may have to involve looking at it as an alternate universe. Looking at it as supposedly being a live action version of the series is definitely not going to sit well (it hasn't with me). Some people are going to have to look at it as "This isn't THE Dragon Ball I saw, but a different take on it."
However, that also won't sit well with everyone. Looking at this as Dragon Ball in live action, I don't like it. Looking at it as an alternate universe, I still don't like it. Hell, looking at it as an American kung-fu flick, I still don't get any good feelings out of it.

I think anyone would go "huh" if they started reading the script before knowing it was different from the anime.
But once you get passed that you'll probably (I can't speak for everyone) enjoy yourself and appreciate the modern takes on stuff from the manga.
If you're still here after DBGT, you'll still be here after the movie. Definitely.

If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.
Even though Toriyama seems to approve of the movie and says you have to view it as a different kind of Dragonball, I, being a fan for so long simply can't. The way the movie has become was just not what I had imagined for a DB movie.
Anyway, my positive meter about the movie is currently at a 35%... I hope it'll increase after I see it but...
Sorry Toriyama-sama, you haven't convinced me (yet)...

Yeah well, the thing is...it's too different. Not similar enough to the original with too many pointless changes that remove--or rather--moves Son Gokû into being a standard wangst-ridden American teen hero played by a guy almost thirty.SSj Kaboom wrote:Well, if we want to assume he was telling the truth with this part, I see no reason why we shouldn't take the second half of the quote to heart either:Akira Toriyama wrote:As the original creator, I had a feeling of "Huh?" upon seeing the screenplay and the character designs

I don't care what Toriyama thinks anyway. Toriyama's opinions aren't my own.
This is not to say "I hate it" or "I love it", by the way. I simply don't define myself by, or view my opinions through the lens of Toriyama's expressed opinions, or what I try to make his words say.
I'm still intrigued by the prospect of this film. Not won over, exactly, but I never expected some bright and colorful live action version of the anime series anyway. I know what I want from this movie, and I still haven't seen anything that didn't leave me completely mixed.

Could it be... THAT DIMENSION...?!?Akira Toriyama wrote:Maybe the right way for me and all the fans to appreciate it is as a New Dragonball of a different dimension.
Yes, it all makes sense...! All of the Namekians that Vegeta sent to "another dimension" banded together in that dimension to create a vessel of negative power to destroy their murderer and bring forth an unspeakable evil powerful enough to escape the confines of that dimension and cross into this one!
That evil's name...?
DRAGON BALL: EVOLUTION.
Which is why Vegeta isn't in the movie.
It all makes sense, I tell you...!!

I am still really looking forward to this movie. I don't think we have received any negative information in the past couple weeks or so, so that's good.
Also, I have some info for you people.
Everyone is hating on the trailers lines of.
"I'm not ready for this..."
"Your the only one who can do it!"
and
"Cool..."
Well, I have some interesting info. Besides the fact that trailers ALWAYS contain edited lines, alternate scenes, lower quality special effects and so on I have a great example.
I picked up X-Men 3 (which I has been growing on me) and watched it last night. Immediately following the movie, I watched the two trailers that were on the disc. I had seen them both before the movie came out, but I hadn't seen them in years. And you know what? To my surprise, the trailer contained many lines that don't even appear in the film. Not only that, but the lines that do appear in the film were altered to match stuff in the trailer, even though there context is completely different in the actual film. Also the special effects were bland and under polished compared to the final film. And there were some alternate angles and takes.
So everyone, rejoice, as "I'm not ready for this.." Will, most likely, not appear in the film. And it is obvious that Roshi is not talking to Goku during the "You're the only one who can do it!" scene. And if Jappo's script is accurate, Roshi actually says "I'm the only one who can do it!" referring to the Mafuba.
