next you'll say anime should be seperated by genre and studio origins, what does it matter as long as people like it?
Anime is short for Animation, Japanamation as much as a I hate the term is the short hand for japanese animation, so it ain't much to stop american and even french stuff being in an anime section.

Then what's the point of using the word "anime" when it's so commonly associated with EASTERN animation? If they were just trying to display animated titles in general they could make things a lot easier and just call it the animation section. Methinks something else is going here.
Signatures are stupid and I wish there was a way to turn them off

The Japanese abbreviate everything, even when it doesn't make the word that much shorter. "Anime" is simply shorthand for "Animation." To them, Disney movies are as much "anime" as anything Toei, Pierrot, Gainax, Production I.G., et al. could come up with.IncredibleGuy wrote:Then what's the point of using the word "anime" when it's so commonly associated with EASTERN animation? Precisely. They're all cartoons. Then what's the point of using the word "anime"
They had it right in the early 90's when every section was actually labelled "Japanese Animation". That was before The American Heritage Dictionary (stifled laughter) even jumped on the bandwagon and stuck it on. And for the fun of it, look up the definition, it is so covered by boundaries it is laughable. For example, by that definition Kyojin no Hoshi or Dog of Flanders wouldn't even be considered "anime".
If "anime" appears in the Oxford English Dictionary as defining an animation specifically marketed in Japan, and so long as I'm in the States, I will use "anime".
BTW, note I said "marketed in Japan" since most crap these days is just sent over from Korea. Possibly as much as 50% today of "anime" are technically Korean animation.

Yet another reason why manga kicks ass

There is such a thing as knowing a little to much on a subject
But on a more serious note, Beyblade, made in japan, which i should point out should be classed as anime in shops, is put under family, due to how the peeps who dubbed it aimed it at the younger market.
So when it comes down to it where it all goes over here depends on who dubbed it and for what audience.
Meh, so as we all know unless we all own the video shops/importers what's the point in complaining at least we are able to aquire these pieces of genius in a legal manner an dnot result to downloading things like some people with no morals.

Hey, Hironobu Kageyama did the opening song's lead vocals so...TMNT, leave 'em be!Ash wrote:You mean the OVA? *shudder* Saint Seiya ripoff..And BTW, they do have a TMNT anime in Japan
Actually, I really enjoyed it just because...well I mean, if you're a fan of the 80's show, its hard to watch those OAVs without laughing or grinning. They're not really LAUGHABLE, its just kinda a nostalgic feeling I guess.

Your going to hell, lucky you, I've been condemned to an afterlife in DBGT, a most unpleasent punishment no?
But that's for reasons none of you know about, let's say it involved a single fan girl and room full of innocent bystanders. and a pack of C4 <.< >.>

I use 'Anime' for anything eastern (Japan, China, Korea, whatever) and 'Cartoon' for anything from anywhere else. Helps me in the stores when looking for stuff.
