I usually agree with you on many of the things you have said in this thread concerning the movie overall but I would have disagree with the above comment. Some actors just view their roles as another job; something to pay the bills put clothes on their backs and put food on the table. While we all are Super Dragonball fans, the majority of the rest of the world are not. I love Dragonball as much as the next Daizenshuu EX forum member but I do not stand around mimicking the “Kame Hame Ha” pose or the Gyalic Ho for that matter. Therefore, I can understand why Chatwin refused to do it in an interview. I do not see why that would make him a jerk.
The Saiyans are very much like the Klingons and Jem'Hadar.

You don't know if he's lying about being a fan of the manga or not. :? You can't blame him for any of the story or character changes to the movie. So what reason is there for us to suspect that he isn't a fan? He claims that he read all 42 volumes of the manga. I can't imagine that he would particularly hate the series after reading that much of it.

Wow, is your daddy a Dragonball fan, or action movie fan?

I find it kinda funny actually. It seems like something you'd expect from George Costanza or Larry David.
I completely respect your opinion, and I respect you. I enjoyed discussing this with you, even if I don't completely agree.

He mentioned it various times in other interviews. He himself is not a fan of the manga but his friends are.
Guess I'll have to go through all the interviews to proof it -_-"
You're wrong. He said he was never a fan of it but read the entire manga for the role.
If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.

Neither. He's not really an action movie (or really just movie) "fan", per se, but he does like action movies in general. If a movie tickles his fancy, he'll watch it. There are some movies he loves, though, mostly Al Pacino and Bruce Lee ones. :P

As for my dad being a DB fan...

I never denied he read the manga =P But reading something doesn't automatically turn you into a fan. I read Naruto and I'm definitely not a fan.

Anyway this is a pretty stupid discussion. If he likes DragonBall, then yay. If he doesn't like it... then well, okay? If he's neutral about it... fine with me?

Anyway, I thought it was funny how Chow Yun-Fat started doing Kamehameha poses on his own XD

I love how Chatwin said "Mainga" because as I was watching it I was just thinking "Oh man that's really going to annoy some people here  "

Also, can we anoint Chow Yun Fat as the second coming of Jesus or what? :P But really though he seems like a super chill guy and I wouldn't mind hanging with him some time.

Can somebody explain that pronunciation for me? I go back and fourth all the time because I can't decide. It looks like it's pronounced Mang-uh, but so many people say mon-guh (most of the fellow nerds I know, which isn't many so I'm not sure). And from what I understand, they pronounce it "Mang-uh" in Japan.

Japanese syllables are similar to their Spanish counterparts. "Mahn-gah" is the proper pronounciation.

So then why do so many people say Mon-guh. Manga doesn't look like it should be pronounced that way, because of the "mang." Is there a stress that's missing like Pokemon?

I don't know where they'd get "mon-ga" from. There isn't any "o" in manga. :?:

You misinterpreted what he said, the correct pronunciation is mAHnga, not mAYnga.

It's like a soft A sound, instead of "ay" it's "ah".

Regardless of correct pronunciation, I still say mAYnga.

Why are we debating over Chatwin's fan-worthyness? Does it really matter? I mean, not everyone grew up as a Dragonball fan.

Actually, him referring to himself in 3rd person in that other interview a while back squicked me way more than him not being a fan of the series.

What was it, he said something like:
Chatwin: Justin isn't a fighter...

Or something like that. The way he said it sounded really cheesy.
On hiatus.

Chatwin isn't that smart but neither is Goku so it all works out.

Ha ha, no I don't go around mimicking Dragonball moves. I was just saying that If I was an actor playing a fairly cultural important role, whether it be Wolverine, spiderman, Goku, or Tetsuo, I would be happy to do battle poses for the press.

It's not that he refused that made him sound like a jerk to me, it was that he was like, "No, See the Movie!" and then made up some random excuse about not exercising.

The random excuse was supposed to be a joke, you don't seriously think he didn't do it because he couldn't "harness his ki" do you?

I understand it was supposed to be a joke, but I think it would have taken less effort to just stand up and do the damn move then to come up with a joke that was lost on a non English speaking crowd.

I personally don't have a problem with Justin Chatwin, just something about his reaction to that request irked me is all.
