Ugh, that drivel? It runs on and on for no reason. "You've been changed too?" Well, yeah. He's ash now. Besides, Piccolo wouldn't say something like that to begin with. He might be a good guy now, but Piccolo doesn't change that drastically. For him to acknowledge Vegeta's death the way he does is classic Piccolo in the original, in the FUNimation version...it just makes him too soft.

Sorry, but I just had to:

Yamcha: Do you remember the spell to release him - do you know all the words?
Bulma: Of course! I'm not gonna pull a Frieza and screw it up!
Master Roshi: Bulma, I think Frieza failed because he wore too many clothes!

Yeah yeah, you are just doing completely unnecessary nitpicking on Funimation. The monologue accurately conveys Vegeta and Piccolo's change in a nutshell. The line sure wouldn't seem "out of character" by Piccolo to you if it was what was said in the original.

Calm down brah. He's entitled to his opinion and I for one agree with what he's saying.

But if you liked it, then fair enough.

Why do people insist on conjuring up that old argument? It makes no sense whatsoever. No, it still would seem out of character if Piccolo said it in the original. Unless you were to change all of his development significantly in addition to that one monologue. Piccolo remains fairly stoic throughout DragonBall Z, and to have him suddenly go on about how Gohan's love changed him a.) doesn't fit his character and b.) does the typical thing of overstating things we already know. Yes, Gohan's love changed Piccolo. Yes, he was a bad guy. Yes, he died to protect him. Yes, that gives him a common thread with Vegeta. Must we have it said instead of just knowing it? Have any of us forgotten that Piccolo was a dick before?

Not to mention, Piccolo and Vegeta weren't exactly buddies. They gave respect to each other begrudgingly at best, and now all of the sudden Piccolo is getting all emotional talking about how they're so alike and so on?

I fully admit I don't like FUNimation's dub of DragonBall/Z/GT (though a few of their other shows are actually pretty good), but that doesn't automatically render any points I have invalid. Nor does your enjoyment of their version render your points invalid. It's asinine for you to jump in and declare that I'm "nitpicking on FUNimation" and would have no complaints if the dialogue was in the original version. Hell, I wouldn't care if Toriyama came in and wrote the ADR script on that episode personally, it's still a bad monologue that's ill-fitting in my opinion. The original dialogue said much more with fewer words, and was fitting of Piccolo's character.

From now on, I'm just gonna keep my opinion on any dub line to myself.

It's just that this is just a Season 8 discussion thread, yet every time I just mention some line I liked, it leads to a stupid ass argument.

Just because someone has a differing opinion it's a "stupid ass argument"?

Jeez. Sorry, didn't know this was a "lavish praise only" thread

Piccolo wasn't shown to get emotional about the quote nor was he acting "buddy buddy" about Vegeta, if that were the case I would see such problems with the monologue. He simply stated how he and Vegeta were alike, which they were in the case of their sacrifices. If Piccolo were to go on about how much he loved Gohan and how much Vegeta's family meant to him then I would see something incredibly wrong with the quote and see how out of character it would be for one Piccolo.

Yes, we knew what was already said, but does that make for bad dialogue? I don't think so, it served as a fitting tribute to Vegeta and the line closed the episode fittingly. But if you don't see it that way, then fine so be it there is no point in continuing the argument.

Agreed, we just have different viewpoints. See? We have different opinions and neither one of us resorted to 4Chan-ing the board with images. Isn't it nice? ;p
