So, we're not going to wait until they release official screen shots before we start bashing Toei? I understand where you're coming from, because I'll be just as upset if it turns out Toei cropped the image, but seriously... this was an orange-scale printing in a magazine. I'm personally not going to make conclusions from this photo. Hell, we don't even have any proof that they're really cutting the series down to 100 episodes.JAPPO wrote:So they're basically just doing what FUNimation did and shortening the episode length.
Amazing.
I'll even cite an example of why I won't make any conclusions from the magazine's screen shots. This is an image Toei themselves used as an advertisement of the "DragonBox The Movies," which was going to be 16:9. Interesting how the images they used are all 4:3, huh? Here's what I originally posted about it back in 2005.
A little over three years later and they're still confusing us. It's just in their nature. So please, don't take too much from this photo. We really won't know if there's going to be a cropping issue until April 5th. Then you can bash Toei...Originally posted on Kanzentai (December 1st, 2005) wrote:Now on to the Movie DragonBox itself. There have recently been a lot of Toei sites that have been updating information and images. Now this doesn't really pertain to anything concerning the ordering of the DragonBox, but I find the following image (click to view) interesting. Albeit a great image, it dispalys some screen shots taken from various DragonBall movies. If you'll notice, all the images are in a 4:3 format, where as the DragonBox is being released in a 16:9 format. Isn't that interesting? So, just to make it clear, I've posted a comparison picture of the Gogeta (DBZ Movie 12) from the advertisement (on the right) with that of the same image taken from a fansub (on the left). Oh Toei, how you confuse us!!
And I don't want to be the one to say this, because I know some people are going to jump all over me, but what Toei is doing now and what FUNimation did are totally different. Toei released the entire series on DVD as it originally aired on TV, or "the way it was meant to be seen." Now, they're going back and remastering it again, but this time for an HD presentation, with either cropping or extended backgrounds, we're not sure yet. So, if you don't want the "possibly" cropped version, you can still buy the entire series in a 4:3 aspect ratio as it originally aired on TV. No one gets hurt. With FUNimation, you don't have that option. That's the difference.
Now, I'm not justifying Toei cropping anything, I'm just saying, they at least give you an alternative to the widescreen and they never pimped it as "they way it was meant to be seen." They've also clearly stated that this is a revision or re-editing of the original series, so I don't feel like I've been lied to. Besides, they're the original creators, so they can really do whatever they want with it. All I care is that the original version is readily available, and Toei's done that.
