Having something called Dragon Ball Kai coming out.
Something with a new name that isn't a video game or fanfic.
I want SSJ5.

Just for following the basics of how the cutting works for the flow, don't most of us know the series well enough that we'll get a pretty good idea how it turned out even without subs?Krakabeast wrote:I guess I won't be truly excited until a subbed version is released.
Same opinion here, and if Toei did crop the series it is utter cheap and unforgivable. Calling it Dragonball Kai is kinda lame too, because it's nothing really "new"...MajinVejitaXV wrote:If Toei did a cheap crop job like FUNi, they'll get none of my business personally. It was dumb when FUNimation did it, and it'd be absolutely idiotic and unforgivable if Toei does it.bkev wrote:Betting on this being 90% of the forum's reaction.Chrono Trigger wrote: It's all good though. TOEI did it so its totally "A" OK.

Of course, but with new dialogue, I'd want to know what the characters are saying just in case any new tidbits are added into the series. Maybe we'll find out that Vegeta wears pink boxers on the weekends.Velasa wrote:Just for following the basics of how the cutting works for the flow, don't most of us know the series well enough that we'll get a pretty good idea how it turned out even without subs?Krakabeast wrote:I guess I won't be truly excited until a subbed version is released.

To quote Wasted Wisher:Kendamu wrote: What's the difference? It was stated before that Toei was drawing more frame onto the sides to make it true 16:9, but I'm seeing cropping here.
I thinks that Toei is going to draw more frame only for scenes that would lose something significant when cropped in 16:9, like a character face being cut, but scenes where all you lose is, for example, a small part of the top of a character hairs or a small part of theirs shoes, will simply be cropped.Anyway, on to the topic at hand....it seems that TOEI is going to be re-drawing some scenes from Dragonball for broadcast on high-def tv. The touch-ups will include some re-done background art (most likely to broaden certain scenes for widescreen)
Sounds indeed like the least costy and thus most logical way to do things seen from a business perspective...Stargazer wrote:To quote Wasted Wisher:Kendamu wrote: What's the difference? When the movie of "Kyojin No Hoshi" was re-aired, it was done exactly the same way.Stargazer wrote:I think that Toei is going to draw more frame only for scenes that would lose something significant when cropped in 16:9, like a character face being cut, but scenes where all you lose is, for example, a small part of the top of a character hairs or a small part of theirs shoes, will simply be cropped.
Well they really needed to give it its own name, to avoid any more confusion. And personally, I would prefer Dragon Ball Kai over Dragon Ball Z: Maximum or something like that.Same opinion here, and if Toei did crop the series it is utter cheap and unforgivable. The very last things to come out are DB movies 1-3, and those come out March 13th. Every single other bit of the series has already come out as singles (minus the TV specials).TheGreatness25 wrote:But on a serious note, did they even finish releasing the Japanese singles?
This isn't like Dragon Box footage. It's a new product, and Toei will want to milk it for as much as they can get.TheGreatness25 wrote:"Of course FUNimation will put this out"?
It's not always the case where they actually have a choice.
