No, we know about that. It is still interesting to speculate rather than to say "Let's wait and see." and be done with it.bkev wrote:I take it everyone ignored Hujio?

OK with the new developments since last night I've got some mixed feelings...
I like the concept of differentiating the series by calling this DragonBall Kai. However I am not a huge fan of the Logo. It reminds me too much of GT's. More specifically FUNi's GT Logo.
But this causes problems with the Opening and Endings. The new Title almost guarantees in my mind that there'll be new songs since We Gotta Power outright says "DragonBall Z". I don't really have a problem though with new OP's & ED's as long as they go the Video Game route and have Kageyama sing the some. I'll miss the original 4, but if I want that I can go back and watch the original series. I'm just hoping that over a decade after GT they don't try and take the Funimation route and give a "HARDCORE" feel to the music.
And speaking of Funimation...If this footage is in fact cropped in any way I will be severely pissed. Especially if the fans give Toei a pass. I'm not a fan of FUNi's cropping either, but for the past 2 years I've defended it to a degree. After all of the hell that was raised on this place and other Forums over FUNi's cropping it just wouldn't be fair for Toei to get a free pass.

If challenge had a taste, you'd be quite delicious.
Well, so far, I see a free pass. Considering the original FUNi news had fifty-six pages of "WHAT THE FUCK" and this is like "oh...
" I think there's a big difference.
For all the flack that FUNimation gets on this forum for their quote about DBZ, there's some modicum of truth to it: a 9-year-old is born every day. Or in some cases, "reborn". DBZ may be a kids' show, but it's been so close to so many hearts all over Japan, America, and quite possibly, even the world.
Probably because we've got our beating stick ready to go whenever FUNimation announces anything.bkev wrote:Well, so far, I see a free pass. Considering the original FUNi news had fifty-six pages of "WHAT THE FUCK" and this is like "oh..." I think there's a big difference.
On the other hand, if Toei did the same thing, we'd just be disappointed.
Yeah, prettymuch. Personally? I hate TOEi. I just dislike them. It's irrational, but between them being stingy - AND their prices - and to top it off, this possibility - they just seem like one fucked up company screaming "how can we take your $?" even more than FUNi. Well, maybe not that much.Casual Matt wrote:Probably because we've got our beating stick ready to go whenever FUNimation announces anything.bkev wrote:Well, so far, I see a free pass. Toei, if I am taking what was previously said in the thread correctly, is reframing the footage (and also extending it) so that while some footage is lost, it is not important footage (hair, faces, etc.), footage they consider acceptable loses.
I think I could live with that.
Well, five or six weeks left until be find out, right?

I don't mind the speculation, that's fun. What I have a problem with is people saying "So this is exactly how it's going to look, huh? Fuck you TOEI! How could you screw us all like FUNimation did?!"Yi Xing Long wrote:No, we know about that. If it turns out that they're simply cropping the entire series like FUNimation, then I'll have a problem with it. I'll be just as disappointed as everyone else. It's just, we don't know anything about the cropping yet, so don't jump down their throats with no evidence. Speculating and ranting are two different things. Honestly, if some of it is cropped, but re-framed so nothing important is lost, then I'm fine with that. I can live with that.
Well so far, Toei hasn't screwed me over. FUNimation has, and they've done nothing to warrant forgiveness. When the GT Dragon Box was delayed, Toei made a press release apologizing to the fans and explained that the box was being delayed so they could meet the massive demand for it. They even went so far as to providing free items to everyone that had pre-ordered the box. Now, I've never personally had a "beating stick" out for FUNimation. Like Viz, they've simply disappointed me too many times, so I don't buy anything DragonBall from them anymore. Especially considering both handle so many other series so well, but can't seem to do anything semi-decent with DragonBall. DragonBall was fucked, in general, from the beginning in North America, as far as releases were concerned.Casual Matt wrote:Probably because we've got our beating stick ready to go whenever FUNimation announces anything.bkev wrote:Well, so far, I see a free pass. Let's be honest, every company wants to make money, Toei and FUNimation included. However, they go about it in completely different ways. The main reason for the majority of fans that don't like Toei is that their DVDs are so expensive. That argument is so old, I don't even remember when it started. The fact of the matter is, in Japan, CDs and DVDs are more expensive than in other regions, like the United States. That's just a fact. It has always been that way, and probably always will be.bkev wrote:Yeah, pretty much. Personally? I hate TOEi. I just dislike them. Besides, Toei's DragonBall DVD releases are levels ahead of FUNimation's. From the packaging, to the encoding, to the number of episodes per disc, bonus material, etc. They may be more expensive, but at least they make it worth your hard-earned money. And don't forget, Toei didn't release any of their DVDs with us non-fluent Japanese speaking fans in mind. So to us, they're naturally going to be more expensive, especially when you throw in international shipping. They may be stinging, as far as not sharing audio and next episode previews, but they made the show. They can pick who they will and won't share it with.
I've got to stop making such long posts... it's killing me.

Not really. I'll laugh and go watch my DragonBoxes, because Japan actually released the whole series before playing Frankensteinultimateemail5000 wrote:I seriously hope that they crop the footage just so I can see the reaction of all you guys on this forum. The UUCs were never finished, leaving all of the Namek saga and about half of the Vegeta set unreleased in 4:3. Said missing episodes were, however, aired on TV.Innagadadavida wrote:I thought Funimation did release all of the series in singles before the Ultimate Uncut. What did I miss?

They canceled the Ultimate Uncuts for the Season Set, during the middle of the Saiyan arc. Episodes 28-67 do not have an uncut American 4:3 release.Innagadadavida wrote:I thought Funimation did release all of the series in singles before the Ultimate Uncut. What did I miss?
EDIT: Everyone jumps at the chance to explain, and I'm last.

If Toei decides that, in order to save money, they're going to hire local talent instead of keeping the cast I know and love (except, of course, those who have passed on) despite the fact that Dragonball prints money, then I'll be angry.bkev wrote:Well, so far, I see a free pass. If Toei lies to me and tells me that I'm not losing anything in the process of converting to 16:9 in response to strong evidence of the contrary, then I'll be angry.
If Toei completely messes up the colors of half of an entire major story arc that happens to also be a favorite of mine (see Season 2) and, in turn, keeps me from wanting to collect the DVDs, then I'll be angry.
If Toei had decided that years of dedication from fans who were collecting the singles wasn't worth waiting just a few more discs in order to get the entire series out there in 4:3 before starting Dragonball Kai, then I would've been angry.
If Dragonball Kai entirely and immediately replaces Dragonball Z on store shelves years before the whole thing is completely released on disc, then I'll be angry.
Until then, I'll not give them a free pass, but I'll be more lenient on them.

^^ Kendamu has a point. Toei has a better track record with these kind of things. With FUNimation, the widescreen crop was just another point on the list of idiocies they have committed.
If this is simply reframing it, if that is the single worst thing Toei has done compared to FUNimation, I'll be lenient with them.

I finally get it... they're mocking us. The "HARDCORE" logo, the abridging ("cut" scenes), the widescreen. It all makes sense! KAI is actually an acronym for:
Keeping
Americans
Interested
See, they're cutting it short so that us Americans with no attention span can watch it. Even those of us that don't read (once FUNi dubs it that is)!
