Hey man! It's nice to see you're still alive.DBW wrote:Yeah! Break! Care Break!I just hope they do multiple OP/ED's this time. I know I was getting pretty tired of Zenkai Power by the Cell arc in DBZ.
But on a more serious note, I'm insanely excited to see what they're going to end up doing with the series, whether it be for better or for worse. The simple idea of re-recording music and dialogue alone has me at the peak of curiosity. Good stuff!
(Not to mention trimming the fat...)
I suppose I should post my two cents...
For one, I'm impressed with the new coloraton. Much better than FUNi's (reasonable) effort. I think we all need to see some proper, high-qualtiy footage or screens to make a fully-informed judgement, but I'm impressed by what I've seen.
Also, while, some may disagree, I'm actually glad it wasn't re-animated. At least not in the style of the Jump special. I actually prefer the way the characters are drawn in the earlier episodes, to the blockier, squarer appearance they all obtain later. I'm glad that's being maintained.
Of course, I can't wait to see what some of the superbly animated Cell and Buu saga episodes look like! If the Saiyan saga looks this good, then we're in for a real treat with the latter ones!
Two, glad to see some of the new music choices. I have great hope that the score will be excellent.
Three, while it's probably too early to be thinking about a potential FUNimaton dub - I'm getting excited at the prospect since this gives them a fresh oppurtunity to dub the series faithfully. The cynic in me however thinks they'll simply take this, release it as slowly as possible and try to shovel in as much of their "original" dialogue as they can.

In a nutshell: Likes the sub and the dub and barely ever posts.

The way I see it is that if they do get a hold of it, they have two options. They can either market it to the casual DBZ fans, or they can market it to Anime fans like most of their properties.Chrome wrote:Three, while it's probably too early to be thinking about a potential FUNimaton dub - I'm getting excited at the prospect since this gives them a fresh oppurtunity to dub the series faithfully. It's more likely that they'll market it to casual DBZ fans, which means that the script won't be as accurate as if they marketed it to anime fans.
Either way, I do believe that the script WILL be more accurate than the current series. They'll probably still add jokes and remove any logical references to Dragon Ball.

I guess I didn't misinterpret it then.Khalid Shahin Posted: Tue Feb 17, 2009 9:32 am wrote:
No. They said they won't redub for the people who have passed away, they are going to use their original dubbing.
The original Japanese cast is re-grouping to re-voice the show (where available, and unfortunately not including those that have passed on, such as Hirotaka Suzuoki [Tenshinhan])
I read it as both ways. But I think I read it as they won't get someone new because I think somewhere else said they are respecting the old voice actors, so maybe those people misinterpreted it. It could be either way as of now. But if I had to choose of what I think is going to happen, I would go with the redubbing idea though.

Perhaps the script would be more accurate than their current one. I don't know. But as I said, I have this sinking feeling that FUNimation would simply try and maintain as much of their dialogue as possible while keeping the script in tact.Innagadadavida wrote:The way I see it is that if they do get a hold of it, they have two options. After all, when they re-dubbed Season 1 and Season 2, they maintained most of the old Ocean group dialogue - even a lot of the stupid stuff. Who's to say they wouldn't do it again here as well.

I really would love it if Funimation dubbed the series more properly than they have in the past, but I pretty much gave up all hope after the release of the Orange Box sets. By now I've pretty much settled on the fact that Funi will doubtfully ever release the series in a much better format than the Orange Box, which is kinda sad.. But whatever. I'm happy enough with what I've got, and I've been watching the dub since I was a child, so I can live with all the stupid dialogue and whatnot.Chrome wrote: Perhaps the script would be more accurate than their current one. If Funi gets DBKai, they will probably re use the dialogue they used in the Orange Boxes, which still works for me despite not being ideal. If they do end up properly redubbing DBKai, I will forever fall in love with Funimation.

I never thought I'd reach this point in my life: I don't care anymore about the dub. I don't need a perfect dub if I've got the Japanese version, it's not like I can't read subtitles. Up until a year or two ago I was such a hardcore fan, but two or three years here and look what he dicks do to me.
Alas, Sabat's still a beast of a voice actor.
Is this how most of the peeps here feel? O.o

Hardly. Schemmel would fly back down and the rest of the cast, sans Vollmer, Antonelli, and Nadolny do regular work for FUNimation.Kendamu wrote:I doubt FUNi will dub it correctly. Even if they wanted to, getting the entire essential cast members back would probably be impossible (Sean Schemmel, anyone?). If they did do an accurate dub for Kai, I would watch it.
Pretty much how I feel. So long as I've got the series in Japanese I couldn't give a damn about the accuracy of the dub, or the fact that Funimation cropped it for that matter. None of that effects my enjoyment of the show.JulieYBM wrote:Is this how most of the peeps here feel? O.o
In Kai's case, I'm just curious, same with DBE. If it's good, all the better, but I'm still curious to see it even if it's not. Just to see what they do with it, you know?
The opening and endings may be new, but I wonder what the in-episode music will be like. Will they re-record insert songs like Spirit vs Spirit I wonder? Curious!

I am at a point now that Funimation can do whatever the hell they want with the dub. Whatever.
Honestly, the only thing I'd want from the dub is for them to keep the original music. Because that way, I won't have to deal with repetitive rock riffs in the menu screen.
Aside from that, they can do ANYTHING with the dub and I'll be fine as long as the subs keep up their current quality.

Honestly, I'll never even watch the dub anyway. I get the feeling there are some people who only watch so they can rag on it in an informed manner. I generally don't watch any anime dubs.

The only problem with that is that it would require them to go through episode by episode and cut out the correct audio from each episode for Kai. If Kai were just Z in HD, no altered pacing, no removed filler, I'd expect them to just use their current dub. To get it to match up with Kai's visuals would take a lot of work. FUNi's lazy remaster makes me think they'd just redub the series from scratch as it would take less effort on the production side of things (just translate the script and "adapt" it). For once something good might come of FUNi's laziness.ImmortalSandwich wrote:If Funi gets DBKai, they will probably re use the dialogue they used in the Orange Boxes, which still works for me despite not being ideal.
