Powerlevels

Post by UMMX » Sun Mar 22, 2009 4:01 pm

Hello everybody. I am hoping (that) you're enjoying this DBZ day. I am an old school fan of DBZ, and I need a little help. Below are the power levels that I have found and know to be 100% true canonical levels.

What I need help in finding are Bardock's team's power levels, King Vegeta's power level, and Garlic Jr and his team's power levels.

That was a typo, I believe; I don't see that anywhere in the post. Also, I am looking for Lunch's power level.

According to Daizenshuu 7, Kame-sennin is actually only a 139 after his secret training for the 22nd Tenkaichi Budoukai. So he’d be lower than 139 when he fought Goku at the 21st TB.

Most of those battle powers you’ve listed aren’t actually official or canonical or anything. Johnboy1 compiled all the official battle powers listed anywhere over in this old thread:
Anyway, since the topic where I collected the power levels has been dead for almost four years, I think I'll post a cleaned-up version here, for reference. Here's the codes I'm using (in order of importance):

[M] = Manga
[A] = Anime/Movies
[D] = Daizenshuus/Reference Guides
[G] = Video Games
[C] = Calculations based on given numbers

The power levels from the games should be taken with a HUGE grain of salt. While the most of the levels they give fall in line with the manga (since most of them are lifted wholesale), some of them are just plain wrong. Those that are incompatible with the story or contradict established levels from other sources have been discarded. Every power level listed here is accurate and attested in an official DB product.

How can they be 100% true/official when power levels stopped being used after Freeza?

Like Herms has posted, there are only a handful of official numbers. Anything after Trunks appears (not counting movies) is made up fan stuff, and the Daizenshuu only lists a few from before Farmer with Shotgun. Characters like Bacteriam have no official power levels.

Wait, Piccolo couldn't be just one million after fusing with Nail. Freeza said his power was 'over a million', then powered up twice before Piccolo got there, and the Namek was still superior.

And why would Saiyan Saga Gohan's Oozaru form be 10x his rage power level against Raditz?

What Piccolo's Daizenshuu 7 bio says is that his battle power "surpassed 1 million" after he merged with Nail. Johnboy's list has a few imperfections like that.

That's not 100% true, In the anime it stop telling you there powerlevels after the Freeza Saga. But If you watch the Cell Saga, in the battle against piccolo and android 17. It said this "Be Careful I sense two other powerlevels with piccolo." That tell you that they did have official powerlevels.

Also thank you whomever you are, for fixing my thread I will never forget you kindness.

There is really nothing to use as a basis to find these.

The best you could do is stuff like ~::Bardock < 1st Form Freeza::~, and that serves no purpose because that would just be restating facts that are obvious in either the manga or the anime... not to mention it's a classic sign of a "9-year-old -fan-boy-flame-war/tirade/narrow-minded-whine-fest" to come and one of the things that Mike hates seeing the most in fandom, especially on his boards.

That line is just in the Funi dub though. In the original the term battle power/power level is really only used by Freeza and co. And even though No.16 can measure peoples' power in some way, he never states any exact numbers, so there's nothing official to go off of.

Characters still have ki, obviously. Everyone can sense when someone's ki gets bigger. All I'm saying is there are no longer any official numbers given to them using Freeza's battle power/power level numbering system. As Rambo said, all you can say at that point is, 'this character is more powerful than this character.'

That's it. Any numbers given to these characters after Freeza's death are just fans guessing, and guessing isn't official.

O... I see okay that make sense. I though he said that line it in both Version.

Also your correct he doesn't say anyone powerlevel in the anime, but I thought there would be a book about those powerlevels.

See, the idea of 'battle power' as numbers was what Freeza's men used, but no one before or after them used that. The characters always just refer to someone's power being bigger or huge or whatever. Interestingly, in the Buu saga, Babidi uses a different numbering system to indicate units of energy, but it doesn't relate to the Freeza style numbers at all; it's a totally different system.

As for a book, there are the Daizenshuu which list some numbers that weren't in the anime or manga, but it really isn't a big list at all. It seems to be generally accepted that Mr Toriyama stopped using battle powers as a way of representing someone's strength because they limited the story too much. I forget if he outright said this in an interview or not.

I don't believe he ever did. I actually think that the reason they drop out of the story after the Freeza arc is because they were only something used by Freeza and co., so once they left the picture battle powers went out too (although Vegeta does keep using the term as a synonym for ki).

There's no official guidebook devoted entirely to battle powers. Daizenshuu 7 has a two-page section on them, centering on the growth of Goku's battle power throughout the story (so no too much focus on other characters). This section gets essentially reprinted in DB Forever and the Super Exciting Guide.

We might, if they screamed all the time, for no good reason.

That makes sense. One way or another the battle power system was probably going to disappear once the people using scouters were gone.

I think the fact that a lot of us got Dragon Ball Z in the west before Dragon Ball makes us more likely to hang on to battle powers, you know? They're there at the start of Z. I remember the commercials even being like, "What's your power level?" like it was a major part of the series. If you started with Dragon Ball and followed it all the way through, battle powers were probably more of a quirky concept somewhere in the middle of the story that did it's thing and then went away.
