Pregnant in DBZ

Post by UMMX » Tue Mar 24, 2009 4:24 pm

I was wondering why didn't it show Bulma or Chi-Chi going into Pregnancy or giving birth? If you guys think about it, Bulma would have been giving birth doing the Android Saga. Why was that part not in the anime? IT would have really connected the sage together.

I could say the same for Chi-Chi but her son Goten Son so up for the first time in movie 10. Why was there no sense of her shooting out this boy.
This takes me back early 97. I remember those days

I remember watch Dragonball on UPN or was in fox back in 1987. It air 4:00am in the morning.

General Tori-bot answer: Oh, for fuck's sake...

Sensible answer: Trunks was born in the three-year gap between Goku's return and the arrival of the Jinzoningen. He was a year old when they showed up, so unless signs of pregnancy begin to show two years before conception, there's nothing to note here.

For Goten, let's say he was conceptualised during the ten days before the Cell Games (Campbell, Herms and Dayspring, although I love you all, keep your gobs shut, kplzthx ;P). Signs of pregnancy wouldn't nearly begin to show that soon.

Keep shut? But that's exacly what happened. Didn't the manga say Goten was conceived exactly in that period (when Goten is first shown)?

It says that he was left behind "before the battle with Cell". For Goten to be 7 years old by the time of the time of the Buu stuff (which is how old the announcer says he is at the 25th Tenkaichi Budouka), he'd have to have been concieved much earlier than the 10 days before the Cell Games, and his official birth year is Age 767, the year of the Cell Games, meaning the latest he could have been concieved is March of Age 767, two months before the Cell Games.

Yeah, but then you'd have to factor in the month he was born, and if he is actually 7 at the Budokai, and all that fun stuff...

Y'know, the kinda stuff you like. :P

EDIT: Thank you for the demonstration, Herms. ;)

I see... I see... I see... Then Why didn't they show her going to the Hospital!!! I mean they could have done something with both women!!! I understand the hole bulma time skip thing, but they could have just done a quick sense with Trunk or Goten in an hospital bed.

I'm pretty sure we saw baby Goten in a crib or something during one of the movies' end credits.

Well I don't think the main Dragonball fanbase is waiting for episodes dedicated to the ACTUAL birth of the 2 boys.
DBZ was mainly about the insane battles and powerfull villains, pregnant women don't really fit in that context now do they?

It's not really important to the story? Plus it was a manga intended for young boys. Young boys want to see funny and/or action stuff going on. I don't think scenes of a woman going into labor & giving birth would be appealing to a kid who wants to see Goku & Vegeta duke it out, or Goku do something silly like eat an All-You-Can-Eat Restaurant out of business.

We know who their parents are, that's enough to use your own imagination on what their pregnancies were like.

Its a Shonen comic. Almost no young boy would care about that stuff.

Why do you want to see this stuff so badly..?

It's just not Toriyama's style. He doesn't even like drawing the romantic parts. We don't see Bulma actually get pregnant, do we?

Besides, seeing the kids is always a surprise. We don't see Gohan born, Goku just shows up with him. We don't see Trunks born, Bulma just shows up with him. We don't even know Goten exists until Gohan comes home from school, even in the manga. Same with Marron. It's just his style; you have a big skip of time, then gradually see all the stuff that has changed in that time.

I want to see Dragonballz Truly uncut thats why.

Gohan is a different story, Gohan was born after Dragonball end, and right before Dragonballz begins. But they didn't hidden his birth, if you remember the go back, and show Gohan as a baby and acknowledge him as a baby. They even show gohan going for his first walk after they leave the hospital.

They didn't do that with Gotens, he just pops out of know where. Then they tell you he's 7 years old! NOW do you see MY Problem!!!! At least with Trunks they show his Childhood!!! I wouldn't care if they where not the Main Characters of the story, BUT THEY ARE!!!!! I don't give a shit about Marron it would be different if she was an Main Character. That why I didnt bring her up just like Bra.

I think the closest you'll get to pregnancy in a Toriyama comic is Midori in vol. 14 of Dr. Slump. And even then, she was a lot bigger than you'd think when Turbo came out so small.

It sounds like you wanted Toriyama to go into more detail about the day to day lives of the characters when they're not dealing with bad guys. That's cool and all (and you can always check out filler since that's why it's there) but the truth is Toriyama wasn't that kind of story teller. That's why he had time skips to skip over things like that so he could advance the plot and move on with action. At least that's my take on it.[/quote]

Shit, the whole series ran for 508 episodes. Who the hell wants to see Gohan studying out of his math textbook or Trunks learning to walk?

Ironically, I think we did see Trunks learning to walk in filler.

Toriyama's Dragon Ball is primary about Dragon Balls, fights, humor and fun..... so what's the deal? Some people take it to more seriously than it really is.....

Oh yeah, I guess we did; however, this scene seems to be too short for UMMX's personal taste.
