Really I'm mainly just curious to hear the new BGM (if it sounds anywhere near in the same vein as Yamamoto's Butouden scores, that in itself may well lock me in as a regular viewer of this), as well as to see whether or not the supposed "added computer effects" will look as garish and out of place as I'm distantly worried in the back of my head that they might, considering how often and easily current day computer effects tend to badly clash against old footage from old works (be it animation or live action).

I'm honestly amazed that this isn't something that's being discussed a helluva lot more; surely I can't be the ONLY one whom raised a concerned eyebrow at reading about this? I haven't been following this thread as closely as I probably should, so I apologize if this has already been raised and discussed in greater detail elsewhere, but I gotta ask; has there been any further information about this particular aspect of the "refresh" since the first announcement, or perhaps some behind the scenes footage showing examples/demonstrations that give us an idea of how this is gonna look and/or how judiciously it's going to be utilized?

I want very much to trust that Toei is putting just as much love, care, and effort into this aspect of the production that they're clearly putting into all its other facets (particularly the remastering/redrawing), but tacked-on-many-years-after-the-fact special effects have so very, very, very rarely ever been anything other than irritating, senseless distractions in a great many other instances, that I can't help but remain at least somewhat skeptical.

I suppose it might just come down to how subtle they plan on being with these effects, as well as how often they plan to use them and where/how.

I trust that, as they're basically "re-drawing" it that it doesn't as much look "old" as it does "Toriyama's 1989/1990 art style" and that the animation itself (once I see the episode) will look newer. So, maybe the digital effects won't clash.

I could have sworn I read in the innitial news break of Kai that among the "touch ups" made to the show, that there would be new digital special effects added here and there. Looking back through the site's news though, I can't seem to find it. Perhaps I just misread/misremembered?

If that's the case, then that's a big load off and I suppose my big point of interest will mainly just be the new BGM.

No, I remember hearing that too, and I agree that it has been pretty much over-looked in the pre-airing hype. I'm with you on the fact that the BGM is probably the part I am most excited about, and I think you bring up very a good slap-in-the-face style point that this really isn't going to be anything "new".

What exactly do you mean by really good quality? Picking up the digital channel, or just the fact that it's better quality than KeyHoleTV? Is it different than what I have up; Watching DragonBall Kai Live! Because if it is, let me know. I'd love to watch the Digital channel rather than the Analog channel, but as far as I know that's the only one available on TVants.

That jelly (or whatever) commercial has great animation. If only the series was redone to look like that, it would make Kai amazing. But oh well.

Better quality than KeyHoleTV. On YouTube, most people have no clue how to watch DBKai, and TVAnts is pretty good quality, well at least for its purpose.

Perhaps you can help me with my TVAnts problem. After the stream tries to load for 5 minutes or so, I end up getting this:

Sorry, TVAnts failed to play the channel within the internal player after several attempts.

Reason: The half-open TCP connection limitation is reached on Windows XP SP2 and Windows 2003 SP1
Solution: Please enlarge the limitation for better connection capacity and traffic throughput.

Reason: Incorrectly injected Winsock LSPs (e.g. Internet Download Manager (IDM) with advanced integration enabled) blocks TCP communications.
Solution: Clear the suspicious Winsock LSPs by Internet Security Tools or disable the related software functions.

1) I'm running Vista, so I don't think this is it.
2) What the hell is a Winsock?

Sorry, I do not know what the problem is, TVAnts works fine for me and I'm really excited because not only Dragon Ball Kai, but a new opening for One Piece premieres

I do not know either what a Winsock is, perhaps Googling it? Also, I'm running on XP and TVAnts works fine so I don't know if it is because you're using a Vista but I highly doubt that would be why because I'm sure there are Vista users here who can use it fine.

Some have mentioned the possible (probable?) inclusion of CGI effects in DBKai and I'd just like to toss in my two cents if I may. I am a bit curious as to how this will look, but I am reluctant to get too worried over it until I at least see something. As someone mentioned, this is in a way new animation (albeit traced over the old) so it is likely that the transition will be quite smooth. It all depends on how the digital effects are implemented really.

IMHO, we really won't see too many CGI effects until we get to Freeza and the Super Saiyans. As such, we have a bit of a wait to go before we REALLY know how it will look.

Kanzentai's timer says there's 6 hours and 26 minutes til it starts. It's 1:34 now, so I think it starts at 8:00 EST.

Technically yes, it's at 7:00pm EST. But because of Daylight Savings, it's at 8:00pm EDT. There's a table on the Kanzentai home page that lists when Kai will be on depending on where you are in North America.
