It definitely felt like a video game piece! I knew we were going to get some nice electric guitar songs somewhere in this series, but I didn't think we'd be lucky enough to start getting them in the first episode! :D

I thought Roshi was weaker, but I never noticed Bulma at all and perhaps that's why she was that great. I hope she hits her stride.

The stuff from the Bardock special was a welcome inclusion. I've never seen it before, so I really enjoyed it, and it sets of some great foreshadowing. It makes the series seem more planned-out and thought through than it actually is, lol.

This is definitely the definitive version of DBZ, visually speaking. It looks really, really nice. Obviously, it's still not on the level of a modern show, but it's a fantastic remastering job.

I like the new BGM. Can't really put my finger on why, but I do.

Opening: I'm torn on this. Visually, it's breathtaking. It kinda cheapens the rest of the show by being so pretty. The scenes with Goku and Vegeta are especially jaw-dropping. The song isn't bad either, but it just doesn't feel like a DBZ song. Yes, part of this is my bias to HEAD-CHA-LA and Hironobu Kageyama in general, but after doing almost all the vocal music for the original series and video games, he just feels synonymous with DBZ now. I don't dislike the new song, but it sounds like it would be more at home on, say, One Piece (nothing against One Piece, mind you).

Ending: Definitely better than the original. Once again, absolutely fantastic visuals, but this song clicked with me better as well. It really has a sort of DBZ feel.

My biggest complaint is the fact that they left some of the crap with Gohan in the forest intact. Yeah, it's condensed, but it's still unnecessary, and I feel the show would be better off without it.

Yeah that scene of her pissed about Yamcha was simply awful. I mean when you make 1999 Chris Sabat sound like a good actor you know it's bad.

But the spirit of DragonBall and One Piece are fairly similar. I really think the song works well for DB, it's spirit, and it's characters.

I just got done going through all 11 pages (after watching the ep; I wanted to go into it blind) and I had a blast watching.

New opening was sooooooOOOOO GOOD! X3 I loved it! SO much fun! I like both songs even more now that I know the lyrics. X3 (And the lyrics are so DB-ish~! )

For some reason, Raditz's overly-gruff voice makes me laugh. I don't know why, but I find his original voice hilarious. XD

I agree that Bulma's VA had the weakest performance of the group.

Kuririn still makes me think "Luffy!" by association; but Luffy's so awesome that I have no issue with that.

Goku's voice impressed me. I was worried that Ms. Nozawa's age might seep in, but if anything I only noticed it in Gohan when he was crying.

The new colors look NICE. Even though I watched this episode on YouTube and thus it was blurry by nature that..well, its YouTube. What do you want? ^^;;;

Isn't it awful that I kept hearing TeamFourStar's jokes from Abridged as this episode progressed? XD
Seriously, I was expecting Kamesennin's beer to turn into several liquids, or Nappa's head. XD

This is totally worth coming home to after I work the evening. :3
Whenever a Saturday pops up where I'm NOT working at night, I'd totally be excited to take part in the chat as the ep airs live. X3

And now I'm off to my PC to go make myself a new DeviantArt avatar from that super-fancy new opening animation.
On hiatus.

Gohan wandering around in the forest is definitely a little slow for a first episode and really does nothing to hook you, but I miss the way it set up his character while letting you compare the similarities and differences between him and young Goku. There's a slight bit of it still in there in DBK, but it feels a little rushed.

Overall I really enjoyed watching this, but my heart is definitely still with Z for now.

This website just said they took my video and apparently many others. Who are they?

They have links to first episode of Kai. I'm not trying to distribute, but show what's going on with this weird site.

You really can't escape SOME filler. And really, the fact that Dragon Ball had filler wasn't the problem, it's the ridiculous amount of it.

I like how the gis are orange instead of red now.

Why are they doing this? I can tell they are stealing Daizex and Kanzentai images.

Raditz doesn't tell Goku that they are brothers in this episode.

Those were different actors. Satou only played Kame Sennin in movie 13, as far as I know.

I just noticed that part A of the eye catch is an instrumental variation of Dragon Soul and part B is an instrumental variation of Yeah! Break! Care! Break!. That's new.

We're only one episode in and I'm already dying to hear how the rest of the cast has stood the test of time (especially Horikawa, Nakao and Wakamoto).

Woah! I just tried singing along with Yeah! Break! Care! Break! in Japanese with Herms' Romanized lyrics, and it's frickin' hard! Tanimoto Takayoshi really spits those words out fast; especially in the beginning.

Sorry if this is has already been mentioned, but I looked through the thread, and I didn't see it. Anyway, apparently Umigame has been recast. Takahiro Fujimoto is credited as playing him in this episode. We already know Daisuke Gouri is going to play Gyuumaou, so I wonder if they wanted to take some of the load off him by recasting one of his many many characters, or if Gouri just wasn't available for this episode.

I guess Umigame doesn't get to do much during DBZ anyway, especially if they're cutting out most of the filler. Still, it's strange.

Typically it's hard to sing along to a song when you're using a different language. -_-

Here's a clean image of the title-card for episode 001:

Image

And here's a clean image of the title card for the next episode previews (in comparison to thisfor Dragonball and this for Dragonball Z (images thanks to Hujio of Kanzentai)):

Image

Strangely, it doesn't seem like they'll be showing a preview of the next episode's title card at the end of each "next episode preview" like they did for DB, DBZ and GT. Instead they're just laying the title of the next episode (in kanji) of scenes of the next episode as the preview is still going. :?

I absolutely loved the new ending theme. I honestly, hated Zenkai Power, it wasn't catchy, and always grated on my nerves, whereas this song has instantly become one of my favorite anime songs. The intro is okay, but I feel it doesn't quite stand up to Cha La. I like Yeah! Break! Care! Break! much better than Dragon Soul.

I also second the notion that Bulma's actress was terrible during this episode of Kai. Honestly, I hope that she is just out of practice or something, because it is extremely noticeable and I hope she improves.
