It's probably going to happen sooner or later, which sucks.

Assuming they stick to doing two manga chapters and episode, and ending episodes where manga chapters end, then episode 2 might end with Goku and Piccolo heading off to fight Raditz, and Kame-sennin telling Bulma and Kuririn to follow after them. Or if they do three chapters (since they won't have to spend time on Barduck scenes or original DB recaps) it may end with Raditz telling Goku and Piccolo that the two other surviving Saiyans are even stronger than he is.

Well, after giving it about 24 hours, and watching it over several more times...I'm actually starting to really like it. :P

There's still definitely some issues, but overall it's really beginning to grow on me. Especially the new music. And after seeing the opening about 5 times now in contrast to the actual episode, I'm happy they didn't re-animate the series. The new animation looks nice in HD, but dead in comparison to the rich cel animation from the original series. It sucks that the animation couldn't be more consistent (ugh, I can still see that farmer's face), but overall they did a nice job with the presentation.

Freeza, Bulma, and the standoff have more bottom, Bardock has more top. And FUNimation's look grainy.

Thanks to the grain, Kai wins. I don't see the point in complaining about one more tuffle of grass on Namek, or just a little bit more of Freeza's knuckles.

I just tried to throw it on my iPod, but either the resolution or something else is preventing me getting it on my iPod. Rewatching Kai was great. I'm starting to get Dragon Soul down when I'm singing along!

If by "grainy" you mean less blurry and more detailed, then yes, they are "grainy".

Okay, I just got finished watching episode 1.

- They uh... censored Goku's weewee. After so many years, baby penises are NOW offensive? What's funny is the editing reminds me of FUNI's paint-edits.

- Sometimes the touch-ed up animation looked kinda... cheap. Just looking at young Goku jumping through trees. It looks unnatural.

- The new eyecatchers are alright. They don't seem to match the music.

- I was surprised that the kept most of the Gohan-filler scenes. I thought this was suppose to be exactly like the manga?

- The ending was... sudden?

I'm still not sure if I like this or not.

No by "grainy" I mean "there are specks all over the goddamn sky."

I don't see how ANY of the eight shots are blurry. And there is not more detail in FUNi's, the overall scenes look the same. If anything, Toei is giving more detail with those little nuggets of film they're adding to the top/bottom, but as I said, it makes no sense at all to give a shit about seeing Bulma's ribbon or losing less than HALF of cloud.

I think this is just a way for fans of different sections of this extremely divided fanbase to get their rocks off by claiming their shot is better than someone else's shot because Freeza's skin is a paler purple. Big fucking whoop, go have a party over there and stop talking.

I'm thinking that they may actually use closer to three chapters per episode. Looking through VIZ's Tankoubon of DBZ Vol. 1, I split everything that hasn't been covered in Kai yet into three chapters a piece. Episodes 2 and 3 got three chapters but the book cut off after two chapters for Episode 4. Episode 4's tentative title implies that we'll get to see the Afterlife. The first chapter of Vol. 2 covers Piccolo kidnapping Gohan and Goku starting his journey on Snake Way.

So, I'm thinking it'll be closer to three chapters per episode.

That'd certainly be nice. And if they do go with a usual of 3 chapters an episode, then the series really will be able to cover all of Z in about a 100 episodes.

Can anyone translate this text that appeared in the beginning of the episode, during the Bardock flashback? Thanks!

I'm guessing the Bardock flashback took the time it would generally take to cover an extra chapter.

LOL!

I just watched the first episode, & I like how colorful everything is. And taking out some of the filler is a good idea. The music is fine, but I kind of miss the old music. Sometimes the animation didn't look quite right, though, & the newer animation doesn't quite fit in with the old. So I have mixed feelings. I will keep watching, though.

Complain as you will about the old edits. I prefer conveniently placed bushes/bubbles to neutering.

Personally liked the first episode myself. Looking at all the comparison shots and still frames, I do notice that the HD treatment was pretty much a hack job give or take, but I saw the episode without all of this in mind, and more or less, I still liked it. I'm gonna have to side with the dozens in the group and agree that Bulma's seiyuu was probably the weakest link in the entire cast. I'm sure it's cause of her age as to why she isn't really giving a performance, but then again you look at Masako Nozawa and wonder if that's a feasible excuse (then yet AGAIN, she IS a pro at being a seiyuu)...

The new OP, like a lot of people said, really did give a Dan Dan vibe to me. ED could have been a tad bit better IMHO. General BGM is surprisingly good. I was bracing for the worst considering I've never been a fan of the majority of the music from the games, but it surprisingly ended up good.

Not much else for me to say that hasn't been said. Like it, look foward to more.
