Beg and plead with kei17 and offer him pornographic beverages.

Because other than that, there's virtually no way to get ahold of it.

Oh hai 1800
Congratulations!

In additions to iTunes and Windows Media Player, there's also Zoom Player, Chuq, which plays basically everything.

Yes, they were available only through a mail-in order within Japan. You had to get an order form from a specific issue of Weekly Shounen Jump, then fill it out with your mailing information, how many copies of each DVD you wanted, and send it back. Then you had until a certain date to go to a local store and pay for them in person to complete your order. If you didn't pay, your order was canceled. If you did pay by the deadline, you would receive your DVDs in the mail in early April (this month). It seems like a very round about way of doing things, but I got my DVDs, so I'm happy!

Does this mean there is a limited supply of these?

I know that's what they were going for, but it was done so cheaply that seeing people praising the "animation" as "good" is just laughable to me.

"Good" animation would have been the animators drawing twice as many frames (so, say, 60 frames per second instead of 30) to achieve the slow motion effect. Not just drawing the key poses and then giving the inbetweeners the day off.

As it stands, the whole ending is basically a Powrpoint slideshow with a few animated gifs.
I don't understand how you don't like the song, but whatever floats your boat. I find it catchy and I can't stop humming it.
It just doesn't stand out to me. I've listened to the song three times last night and now, this morning, I've completely forgotten the melody.

Man, I don't know what it is about seeing a bunch of un-opened DVDs that make me want it so much more.

I'm truly sad. I tried to get a copy of this, but all my contacts in Japan pretty much dried up over the past couple of years. Bleh.

Awesome though for those who got them.

Yeah, they're limited like the Dragon Boxes; they only made as many as were requested with mail-in order forms. Though I'm sure people ordered a bunch, like kei17 and myself, to either sell or give. I'm guessing most people in Japan that order them will see them at a higher price on Yahoo! Japan.

Hujio wrote:No, and I don't really see why they would, it's a Japan-only release like the Dragon Boxes. Most people in Japan don't care if they have English subtitles or not.

I could have sworn that someone reported that Funi knew about it at one of the recent anime conventions. This ring a bell to anyone else?
Didn't someone at a convention ask a FUNi representative if they knew of it, and only get a "yes" about something else in return? That's all I can remember.
I know have to know about it! Hell it was all over Deviant Art and Anime News Network!
By the way, at what con did someone ask that question.
That tea picture is a sure 4Chan victim.

I'm surprised I didn't notice this earlier, but I think I know why the animation in the special looked so gorgeous. There were, in total, 33 key animation artists. And just for reference, most episodes of DragonBall and DragonBall Z had anywhere between 3 to 8 animation artists. It's a shame most episodes didn't have this many key animation artists. Can you even imagine the quality?

.... 33 people doing the keys? o_O Not even incuding inbetweeners and cleanup? Damn.

And on the 3-8 for the series, do you mean just keys as well? It can't mean for everyone, that woulda been nuts.
