Episode #0170 (
download MP3) (
rss feed)
46:53; 64 kbps, mono; 21.4 MB
Episode #0170! VegettoEX and Meri go back and give an in-depth review of the deluxe CD+DVD package for Ayumi Hamasaki's "Rule/Sparkle" single. How is the music in general, and then how does it fit in with the DB world? Is it worth purchasing, and if so, should you just upgrade to her new album instead of the single? Lots of great news, April's releases, and your e-mails round out the episode. Referenced sites:
Go ahead and grab it. Big thanks to
godofchaos for hosting the silly *one-hundred-seventy* episodes, now.
And that's an episode.

When answering that e-mail, you said boku is the personal pronoun Goku uses, when he actually uses ora, the hick form of the more manly ore (he does however switch to ore when he first becomes Super Saiyan). Gohan does use boku though.

Gah, I knew I was saying the wrong character. I suppose the point still applies

Congrats with the opening of the review page, I really like it.
I do have a question though. How does that affiliate thing work? Does DaizenshuuEX only profit if I only buy the product that is being linked with the link that has been posted? Or can I just use the link, browse and buy anything I want? Sorry if what I'm saying sounds stupid but I've never been interested in affiliate commerce up till now.

I was just reading up on it, and it sounds like the way it works is that if you click through
any of our affiliate links, it stores a cookie for 30 days. If within that 30 days you return to buy something, we get our appropriate credit for that purchase (and it doesn't necessarily have to be for THAT item, I don't think).
I don't know how it works if someone's followed
two or more affiliate links...
And if you hate us, just clear your cookies before you buy anything if you've clicked through

I have a couple of questions about the review page. Will you be reviewing previous products (older than the "Rule" CD) say those new guide books from Japan? Secondly, will you, Vegetto EX, be the only person reviewing? It would be pretty cool to have Julian, Meri, or even Jeff review or throwing in their two cents on something?
Good podcast as usual! With all of our donations, we can continue to expect great entertainment.

Since I don't have the guide books in yet (they were just ordered this week), they'll be "new" to me

. Yep, I'll try to review them.
I have no idea if Julian will review anything. That's up to him. Please feel free to prod him about it!

Indeed, they are new, but I was talking by release date. They are new to us all, but podcast review will probably make us all happy. Don't sweat the review! That's why we have Kanzentai, they do all the dirty work. Make'em do it.

Hamasaki's "Tokyo girl" thing keeps getting brought up (both in this episode and in the one where you guys did your initial impressions of "Rule") yet nobody seems to be able to give any examples. The only thing that's been brought up, really, is her use of the word "boku," which isn't really a Tokyo thing as much as it's a Hamasaki Ayumi thing. Because she uses that pronoun in ALL her songs.
(The theories I've heard about that range from "she thinks of herself as a tomboy" to "she uses 'boku' to show that her songs apply to both men and women")
Also not too keen on the condescending attitude Julian seemed to have toward people who talk as if they're from Tokyo back during that initial thoughts episode. As someone who's living near the Tokyo area right now, I listen to "Rule" and don't hear anything that seems odd or out of place.

While listening to this podcast (currently still listening as I type this) I decided to see if I could get a download version of Rule and came across this site: (link removed by administrator) that seems to have a lot of her songs. I'm not sure if this is a legal download site like when I got the Super Street Fighter II HD Remix soundtrack. If it's not, let me know and I'll remove the link.

Uhh... no. It doesn't quite work that way.

Mike this is the one you reviewed right:
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-9y- ... -37xi.html
Is that the one that comes with the cover Toriyama drew (is it even the with that cover?), or was that for only intial prints? I can't use CDJapan so yeah...
EDIT- Read the link from the show notes about the review. Uh, sorry.
"I like the money it brings in, but Dragon Ball Heroes is the worst. That's actually the real reason I decided to start working on new material. I was afraid Bandai would make something irredeemably stupid like Super Saiyan 4 Broly." - Akira Toriyama, made up interview, 2013.

OK. Thanks, I wasn't sure. In the later podcast it does say how to get it legally.
