A convenience store, the androids only weakness!Herms wrote: Another extra box explains why Trunks’s favorite food is convenience store bento: in Trunks’ future, the androids make it impossible to sit around and have a leisurely meal, and Bulma is too busy working on time machine to cook anything, so Trunks is stuck eating out of convenience stores.

I don't necessarily have a problem with each actual height of the characters exactly, but I have a problem with the spacing between them. There is no bloody way Chiazou is 4'5" or whatever it is he's listed as, since he's always shown to be small enough that Tien can hold him in his arms like a very young child. Not to mention during the Buu Arc, Vegeta is shown to be basically a head shorter than Goku, which last I checked is not 3 to 4 inches. And Tien generally seems to be more than 1" taller than Yamcha. Of course, there's the problem of Vegeta and Goku apparently growing immensely since the start of Z, but still.
Not a problem.

Ok. I'm confused. Both Kaio and Shin-jin are born from fruits? If so, how can Shin-jin be superior to Kaio? Also Does the fruit transform into a being? If Kaioshin are almost exinct, why didn't Shin-jin replace them with newer Kaioshin, despite it being rare. Given a several hundreds years, the rare golden fruit should have been grown. Typical Toriyama's mistakes.... [/img]

I don't see any mistakes. There's no way of knowing how rare the golden fruits are. Seeing as how Kaioshin live for thousands upon thousands of years, it would normally be a long time until a new one was needed. When a being who lives for thousands of years says 'rare', it probably means very rare indeed.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:Ok. I'm confused. Both Kaio and Shin-jin are born from fruits? Shin-jin aren't superior to Kaio. Shin-jin are the beings that can become Kaio and Kaioshin. Kaioshin are only picked from the Shin-jin that come from golden fruits, though.
Edit: If I'm understanding it right, Shin-jin come from normal and golden fruits. Some are chosen to become Kaio and Kaioshin, though Kaioshin can only be chosen from those born from the golden ones. So Shin-jin are what Kaio and Kaioshin are called before they take the positions of Kaio and Kaioshin, much like Kami wasn't born God of Earth, but was selected.

The only pictures of Shin-jin they have our a picture of South Kaio (representing those born of normal fruit) and one of East Kaioshin (representing those born of golden fruit); both of these pictures are taken from the manga. There's also a picture of North Kaio at the bottom, happy about his luck in the Kaio-chosing lottery, but this isn't actually part of the diagram (the picture is also taken from the manga, they just added their own speech bubble to it). There is a picture of the World Tree and its fruit, but they're just generic, clip-art like images, almost certainly not from Toriyama. The tree is shown as a blacked-in outline of a generic tree. The fruit look like apples (again, very generic and non-detailed). The golden fruit looks the same as the normal fruit, only it is shiny, with sparkles around it.Saiyan-Professor wrote:Herms were there any pictures of the Shin-jin, the “tree” etc. that could be posted? Thanks, it would have been interesting if Toriyama tied the Shinseijû from Movie #3 to the main continuity by saying that the normal fruit increase one’s combat strength and the golden and a slightly different variety produces the Shin-jin every so many years. In addition, who appoints the Dai Kaiô and the other Kaiôs? One other question what would be the English rendering of Shin-jin?Herms wrote:The only pictures of Shin-jin they have our a picture of South Kaio (representing those born of normal fruit) and one of East Kaioshin (representing those born of golden fruit); both of these pictures are taken from the manga. It says the Kaio (including the Dai-Kaio, presumably) are chosen by lottery. Each time a Kaio passes on, a lottery is held among the Shin-jin to determine who will take their place. Kaio are chosen by a lottery held among the Shin-jin born from normal World Tree fruit, while Kaioshin are chosen by lottery from those born from golden World Tree fruit.Saiyan-Professor wrote:In addition, who appoints the Dai Kaiô and the other Kaiôs? Shin-jin (芯人) means "Core Person"; this 芯/shin can refer to various different kinds of cores and centers, but since these guys are born from fruit, I'm guessing it's meant here in the sense of a fruit core (an apple core, for instance, is a ringo no shin in Japanese). So really, you could call them Pit People.

So in light of that would the Kaiô as well as the Kaiôshin have to wait for the tree to produce more fruit in order to replace North Kaiô and the Kaiôshin that was killed by Majin Buu? If so, why was North Kaiô overjoyed because of his wining the lottery? I can understand if there were many to choose from but if there was, a limited few anyway why get all excited? So would we call the Shin-jin, “Pitians” in English?Herms wrote:It says the Kaio (including the Dai-Kaio, presumably) are chosen by lottery. That's apparently the situation with the Kaioshin. With North Kaio it's unclear. He's still referred to as "North Kaio" in the Buu arc, but he's not shown doing any official Kaio duties (not that he ever was...). Instead, we only ever see him either hanging out with Goku, or watching how things are going with Goku. So I suppose it's possible that he really has been replaced.Saiyan-Professor wrote:So in light of that would the Kaiô as well as the Kaiôshin have to wait for the tree to produce more fruit in order to replace North Kaiô and the Kaiôshin that was killed by Majin Buu?
Well, that part is just a gag. Kaio is bragging about being chosen in the lottery, and Goku remarks that he's surprised Kaio wasn't chosen for his bad jokes. If so, why was North Kaiô overjoyed because of his wining the lottery? Two quick questions:
1) Can Kibito be considered a Golden Fruit Shin-jin doing an apprenticeship before becoming a Kaioshin? He's clearly Shin-jin, but he looks much more like a Kaioshin than a Kaio.
2) Where is the World Tree again? Is it on the Dai Kaio world?
@Prof: I also like the idea of Tullece somehow getting his hands on an unborn Shin-jin fruit and using the seeds to grow world trees. Maybe Ammondo (one of Tullece's henchmen) is actually a Makaio?

I wonder if Shin-jin look exactly like Kaio and Kaioshin to begin with. It says Shin-jin are genderless, but there was a (seemingly) female Kaioshin, and the female Kaio in filler. I guess they could just choose to appear/act that way and be physically genderless like Namekians, though.Dayspring wrote:Two quick questions:

Maybe Kibito, like Popo and Korin, is just some random thing from the afterlife.

The population of this planet is about 80. The Shin-jin are genderless, and their average life expectancy is said to be 75,000 years. Kibito is the Kaioshins' attendant (which is where his name comes from, from tsukibito, "attendant"). He serves the same role to the Kaioshin as Mister Popo does to Kami on Earth.Dayspring wrote:1) Can Kibito be considered a Golden Fruit Shin-jin doing an apprenticeship before becoming a Kaioshin? It's on Planet Kaishin (World-Core), which is said to be "somewhere" within the big ball partion of the DB cosmos (so essentially anywhere but the Kaioshin Realm). Although in the picture of the DB cosmos that goes along with Toriyama's explanation, which has the parts like the Demon Realm and Kaioshin Realm and whatnot labled, the label for Planet Kaishin points to a place somewhere around the Dai Kaio's planet (even though the label itself still only says it is located "somewhere").2) Where is the World Tree again? The Kaio have antennae, but the Kaioshin don't, nor does Kibito. Also, Kibito is dressed like a Kaioshin. As for genderless, looking like a female means nothing; Namek people look like men and are genderless. To me, genderless means the crotch is smooth like a Ken Doll.Bussani wrote:I wonder if Shin-jin look exactly like Kaio and Kaioshin to begin with. @Herms: Thanks, but just because Kibito's name is a pun on attendant doesn't quite answer my question. It could be argued that Shin-jin become Kibito before becoming Kaioshin. Meaning, since a golden fruit Shin-jin wouldn't have the time to study etc, on Kaishin after Boo, Kibito would get his training "on-the-job."

For those who still have hard time understanding the concept of Shin-Jin. The Shin-jin is like normal humans. In order to become governors, you have to have a basic knowledge about governemt as well as graduating from Law school. All of these knowledges are like normal fruits. The citizens would vote to see who will become their new governors (like lottery). Now in order to become President, you have to be a governor for a few good years, graduated from Law school, become a senator if possible, etcs. All of these special experiences are like a golden fruit and the people will vote who will become their next president. The president is a rare position, whereas governors are common ones. Sure the normal people can become politicans. The people will pick among the politicans. I hope this is good picture to imagine.

Also, I was thinking about Shin-Jin's lifespan. It was said to be around 75,000 years of life. But in manga, one of Yemma's attendants said that he successfully completed his journey on Serprent Road a few millions years ago and recieved North Kaio's training. So if it was really millions years ago, wouldn't North Kaio be nonexistant at that time because of what Toriyama has stated about Shin-Jin's lifespan? Unless Shin-Jin becoming Kaios have extended their lifespan much longer.

I agree that they can just simply look like men or women without having any actual gender (since they don't reproduce sexually), though it is interesting that Elder Kaioshin is attracted to women, but not men.Dayspring wrote:As for genderless, looking like a female means nothing; Namek people look like men and are genderless. It's not just that that's where his name comes from: Toriyama said that Kibito was Kaioshin's attendant in Forever's name pun guide. Since Toriyama doesn't say anything about Golden-Fruit Shin-jin serving as attendants before becoming full Kaioshin, and since with Mister Popo (who refers to himself as Kami's tsukibito) we already have an example in the series of a god's attendant whose job is to simply serve the god and has no chance of becoming a god himself, I don't see any reason to think Kibito is a Kaioshin-in-training.@Herms: Thanks, but just because Kibito's name is a pun on attendant doesn't quite answer my question. No, that's not it at all. The Shin-jin are born of fruit from the World Tree. The very rare golden fruit is a special kind of Shin-jin. When a Kaio/Dai Kaio dies, a lottery is held among the Shin-jin to born of regular fruit to replace them, while Shin-jin born of the golden fruit are used (in lottery format again) to replace Kaioshin/Dai Kaioshin. "Lottery" is not a metaphor for "election," and "fruit" is not a metaphor for the Christian Tree of Knowledge.DragonBalllKaiHD wrote:For those who still have hard time understanding the concept of Shin-Jin.
