Frankly, I didn't watch it as a Dragon Ball movie at all (and that wasn't even a conscious effort). It's just bad. Really, really bad.
Even when the characters stop talking for a while (always a good thing), you're generally in for bad SFX, nonsensical editing or bland BGM (I found myself constantly reminded of Star Wars and Conan rip-offs from the 80s). It. Never. Stops.

I had assumed it couldn't be worse than Uwe Boll's efforts. I thought it would just be a very bad idea that unsurprisingly culminated in an utter failure (whereas Boll doesn't even try and apparently chose cinema over a career of vomiting in people's mouths because the former was more lucrative).
Right now, I'm thinking I underestimated how lowly some people in the film business think of children.

The other day, I got a chance to watch the final part of the newest Fairly Oddparents movie and I noticed something: There was not a single, solitary second when there wasn't any BGM.

It's really sad when companies think that American kids are too stupid to sit through some scenes without music for a bit...

...it's even more sad that, for the most part, they're probably right.

I dunno, I remember analyzing the shows I watched pretty heavily back when I was seven or eight. Kids can be surprisingly thoughtful sometimes; many of the things I pondered back in the single digits were along the lines of things I notice/think about at close to twenty-two.

Feelin' unlucky and a little jealous I guess; the "novel" for Transformers new movie is nearly at 300 pages and in the regular fiction section; its not a junior novel.

*Vaguely muses on what-ifs 'n never-will-be's concerning the idea of a PG-13 db-related movie*

It's not like I'm asking for curse words or nudity or anything like that; I'm not. I'd just like to see a long, well-choreographed DB-style fight. A fight that would last about a half hour or so. And performed by actors who have actual experience in marital arts, none of that "I'm afraid of getting hurt, let my 'stunt double' do it" schtick. *Has more admiration for actors who do their own stunts*.

Out of pure curiosity I went and looked up to see who Uwe Boll is; I don't recognize a single one of these movie titles. The title "Alone in the Dark" looks kinda familiar; like I'd seen advertisements for it before, but that's it.

You might be thinking of the computer game series that the movie is based on, which has the advantage of not being tremendously awful.

A half hour fight? In a movie? That would be awful. It would lose steam and just drag on. No movie has a 30 minute fight.

EDIT: Checked. It's actually around 25, give or take a few minutes.

I guess a hypothetical live-action battle doesn't have to be a half hour long...I guess I'd be happy if it were 15 or 20.

Aren't all American kids shows like this? Non-stop background music just annoys me.

They tried to make “Goku” coincide with this theme and that is why I like this version far better than the anime/manga one. Regarding your Pacey comment, I actually liked the character until he screwed over his boy Dawson but that is a whole other subject. A younger Joshua Jackson would have made a pretty good Vegeta.

A young Jackson would of been perfect as Yusuke Urameshi. With David Boreanez as Toguro. A really uncanny resemblence.

Why do you want every character to act the same? The Vegeta character would lose all appeal in a world of Vegeta's. He needs a Goku to work as a character. You cant just call any schlub Goku and have be Goku. These characters are not interchangeable.

It's like saying " Man, I loved this new version of Spiderman, he has no responsibility whatsoever, so he's more fun to listen to as a character!". If there's no responsibility, there's no Spiderman, it makes or breaks his character. The same as the happy-go-lucky personality can make or break Goku's character. This movie character flat out wasn't Goku, whether you like him more or not.

Yeah, but that was back then. I was the same way. I have younger siblings now, and it isn't really the same anymore.

(I'm definitely NOT insulting my siblings, I'm just saying their attention span isn't an easy thing to keep going for long periods of time...well, maybe my brother. But definitely not my sister. She's one of those "High School Musical" types.)

I just saw Star Trek, actually saw it before opening day, and it was really good. And that got me to thinking that I think Chris Pine, who played Kirk, would be a decent choice for Vegeta. He's got an evil but somewhat refined look, and he played a dickhead/cocky bastard at the beginning really well.

That is your opinion, there are always things about certain characters that we all wish could be changed. Take Naruto for example, I really like the character but I hate the fact that he is always chasing after Sasuke as if he was his long lost girlfriend. If they were to remake Naruto and do away with that annoying characteristic, he would still be Naruto. If the creator says or allows their character to be depicted in a certain way that is who they are. The only time I enjoy Kakarrot is when he is fighting because he does not have too much time to be idiotic. You can say whatever you like but to me the movie “Goku” is my preferred one over all incarnations.

They're still chasing after Sasuke?! o_O
I no longer follow the series (mostly because he pretty much stole said series from its titular character) but I have an awful feeling that Sasuke's never gonna get his just desserts or have to pay for his crimes. @_@
He'll end up with a slap on the wrist and a get-out-of-jail-free card, I know it.

Chris Pine...you know I haven't seen the new Star Trek movie, but the first thing that stands out to me about that guy is his eyebrows. XD He's got FLCL eyebrows.

Okay, maybe not that thick, but they're there. :3
Thank you for mentioning his name though, because I had no idea what his name was prior to your post.

I don't think his hair-color and eye-color are dark enough for Vegeta; and I have no idea how his acting is.

Well right now they're saving the Leaf Village from Pain, but yeah that sounds about right
