I have that DVD, it isn't very good because you can only watch the censored French version. What is paradoxical is that in the bonus section of that DVD there is a little "documentary" on the fusion technique and in it, you can see Hitler since they used the Japanese original to make it. Maybe it was a way to show the people some of the stuff that was cut.

Concerning the censorship in the French version, it got pretty ugly at some point, i think one of the episodes only laster 8 minutes because of scenes being cut. French fans always complain about Funimation drawing underwear on Goku or stuff like that but that's way better than cutting the scene altogether.

EDIT: Sun Wukong, i can't answer your question, i have never seen the unedited version.

I don't know... I watched a French dub with Polish voiceover. The censorship wasn't that bad, they only applied it to more brutal scenes, Freeza getting cut with his own Kienzan, Kuririn impaled by Freeza...
It's party time, Ginyu style!

Funny, Spain's release was never edited...

That can be true but you also have to take into consideration the jewish community in France, a lot of people lost their family during the second World War so the nazis and Hitler are pretty sensible subjects here.

That's one of the reasons why Kinnikuman was canceled here. One of the characters had the nazi cross on his costume but he was a bad guy so no problem. But when he turned "face" (i'm using wrestling lingo here) the CSA (the people who control what can and can't be shown on French tv) refused to allow that becausefor them it's unacceptable to show a nazi as a good guy here. So those episodes were not shown and a few weeks later, the show was completely canceled. They forgot to take into consideration that that cross has another meaning in the Japanese culture.

God, I'm starting to think that French censors suck worse then ours. At least in America we can have an eight year old boy pretending to be Hitler and attempting to kill all the Jews.

It was an episode of South Park for those not in the know. -_-

True but things of that nature can be touchy here as well depending on who's doing it. For example, in Yu Yu Hakusho, theres a bit with a ninja named Kazemaru who has a manji tattooed on his bald head. When it originally aired on Adult Swim, Funimation explained what it was to Cartoon Network, but they said no and it was covered over for the tv broadcast. Nevermind that a Japanese "nazi" makes as much sense as a fish living in the Sahara.

I thought the manji was only in the manga...
In Shonen Jump, I thought they said it wasn't even in the Japanese anime...

It's in the anime, if you get the dvd. The tv version however did a job of covering it, that if you never saw the uncut version, you'd never know about any tattoo there.

M'kay, they probably meant it wasn't in the dub then.

When you say dub, do you mean dub entirely, or are you simply referring to the censored version? Anyways that and one language edit were the only edits done to YYH when it was on Adult Swim. cough*greedy ratings-hungry CN execs*cough.

That may be true but they show South Park unedited here too. That's quite paradoxical... But there was an anti-japanimation phase in France during the late 80s up until the mid 90s. Some people didn't like that most cartoons shown on tv here at the time we Japanese and violent.

As Julian's explained, he's not so-much CURSING as he is... just being rude :P. It'll probably be along the same lines. "Stupid barrier, I hate you, you provide me with a very high level of upsetness, and I dislike the predicament you've put me in!.... FUCK YOU!"
It has been a good long while since I last watched this movie, and I'm looking forward with equal parts anticipation and dread to when the time comes to subtitlte it. No matter what I do, there's no way everyone is going to be satisfied with the translations (at least I know better than to go getting myself caught up in some thread on cross-cultural four-letter words.). I do seem to recall it being more a matter of variously-directed verbal abuse than cursing, which is the distinction I believe you're making.

Hey Daimao, just to throw everyone for a loop, you should translate it as "Fuck you!! You candy-assed faggot Barrier!"

Sir, I have say that I like your translations, especially how you leave in the name-suffixes.
